Housing: Why do wall items orient to floor?

Hey.

Whoever decided to make shelves, paintings, wall mountd lanterns and so on, to only orient correctly to floor?

There is a need of fixing here, these items should orient correctly, when oriented against walls, so that it would be lot easier to actually make them look proper. Been trying to place this shelf on the wall, but everytime i try, it just goes to somehow wrong, floats, is not straight and so forth.

That's because you're not actually aligning to the "floor", but instead, setting the item at 0 level.

I recommend you disable the option to prevent this. I forget the option wording, but it allows you to place items precisely where you want.

Interesting.. Is this setting a ini tweak or a straight out settings change?

If its that simple, it would be amazing... i have had trouble with this ever since the Homesteads launched :D

I wondered at first. But I concluded they're just being open minded. With all the magical characters in Tamriel, some mage's preference to sit on a wall or ceiling should be expected.
Alqu - Sneaky bosmer dps (sNB)
Allqu - Whirling dervish redguard dps (Sorc)
Ocuili - Devout dunmer templar burninator (Temp)
Ocuilin - Secretive dunmer dps/heals (mNB)
Tletl - Drunken orsimer tank (DK)

I'm on console, so I can't answer this. Sorry.

It is. I turn off the feature because it seems to block more than it allows.

You do need to be VERY CAREFUL, though. You can literally set an item anywhere you want, but this risks pushing an item into position in which you can never interact with once you set it down.

I have a lantern stuck in a wall in Moonmirth because I accidentally pushed it too far into the wall when I set it.

Wont the retrieve option take it away from the wall? The one in furniture menu?

Nope. To retrieve an item requires you highlight it, and because the lantern is so far into the wall, the game can't highlight it for me to retrieve it.

    I can't even turn it on/off (it's permanently on).

As far as I'm concerned, it's now an official part of the house.

The retrieve tab still works for items you cannot highlight.

Just open the tab in the housing editor (its the one with the curved arrow) select the item you want (in case of having multiple items of the same type try to pick the right one based on the distance).

    @Violynne @Tapio75

Also if you want to align items perfectly take a look at the "Homestead Item Mover" addon on PC. Its availabe on ESOui.com iirc.

I'll try this the next time I'm at the house. I play on console, so we may have a limited menu system, but I'll definitely check to see if I can retrieve the lantern through the menu.

    Thanks for the tip!
