The fault with Alliance controlled towns

With the current event with dailies I went to cyrodiil (its ok, I live there)
I didn't realise you had to own the town to do the dailies. It was easy in [can't remember the name - its SW of Farragut Keep] as it wasn't alliance controlled. All the enemy factions were neutral as we all did the dailies. However, going to cropsford was a whole nother story. I can't enter the house or speak to the quest giver outside because of the gaurds. I wouldn't attack but still couldn't speak or enter the house. And if you try to kill the gaurds the enemy alliance goes crazy and kills you. And if you're playing solo and take the flags, it shows on the map and you can expect a group to come to you.
I know its to be expected in pvp, but this was pretty unfair.
Maybe the flags and quest givers should be separated. This allows under dogs to sneak to do the dailies and allow the controlling alliance to have a spawn point
Fun comes from diversity, balance kills diversity.

Agreed that it would be great if the quest givers weren't right on the flags.

Come to think of it, Bruma is a perfect example of how to "fix" Cropsford and Valastarus. Both quest givers in Bruma are far enough away from flags without drawing aggro from guards.

The dailies in the towns are there to incentivize people going there and in the best case PvP in the process. It would defeat the purpose if the quest givers where totally detached from the town.

Bruma is amazing yes.. I guess the point of playing ESO is that its supposed to be dangerous.. otherwise what would be the point of playing it? You may as well read a book about it if you don't want to engage in the dynamics of the game.

Everyone calling for nerf this and nerf that has lead ESO down a road of extreme blandness that it is only just beginning to recover from imo

I never had a problem with this. If you have a quest giver near a flag, you just need to defeat the guards. If you don't stay on the flag to actually turn it, it won't show on the map and thus won't draw attention. Sure, the flag guards will respawn after a bit, but by then you have finished talking to the quest giver.

I do agree it would be more comfortable if some of the quest givers were not placed so very near the flags, but it's not actually a hindrance to complete them.

I think it would be fair to position quest givers juuuust far enough away from flags to not aggro the static guards, but still be visible to a player in that area.

Usually I just kill the NPC's near the flag but don't take the flag, they don't respawn for another 5 or so minutes, so it gives me time to do the quest. It doesn't flag the map as being under attack either, because I'm not taking the flag, and the fight didn't last long enough to mark it, so no one knows unless they go there.

I have to do it every time they respawn though, so it is a chore, but it helps. I remember when I was doing my last quests in Bruma to get the Tamriel Hero achievement, it just seemed to be constantly under attack from different sides of alliance players, the other two alliances actually. I wanted it done though so sneaking around was very difficult, especially as a non-nightbade, but I did it and survived

But yeah I agree with you.

Just a technical remark - the marking of a town as "under attack" only happens when you stand on a flag long enough to turn it from it's former owner's color to "neutral"(white), that means halfway through the capture UI. This can not happen while there are guards on the flag, because they turn the flag the other way while they live. So the only way to mark a town is to do it on purpose - kill guards, then stand on the flag for 30 seconds. Simply getting rid of the guards won't mark the town no matter how long the fight lasts.

The Cyrodiil town quests give some of the highest XP in the game (sometimes for just stepping outside and doing next to nothing), so yeah PVPers do go there especially on low level characters.. plus the Dolmen at Bruma is famous for rewarding Cold Fire weapons..

Well, now you know one! ;)

I always prioritize taking bruma if it is not blue, because as an exlusively solo player, that's something i can do on my own, and it prevents a whole enemy raid respawning in our backyard.

And while i'm there, i might as well do the quests - its relatively effortless 10K gold, and there might be some enemy players to fight as a bonus.

I just kill the guards and take the flags, then do the dailies. What is the issue? takes a few moments to get that done. The only issue is if there are other factions there and they want to battle you and not do the dailies.

But you take the town for EP for PVP purposes and patrol it and do quests as a side to pass time. If there were no quests, you would still take it. If there was no town to take (as in before towns were able to be claimed) would you still go there to do quests? or would you go and do PVP things?

The true motive of the player is what I am getting at.

There was always PvP at the towns, even before they became capture-able. And i was a regular, both because of the gold(used to be my main source, before campaign rewards) and to train unused skills - the bruma quests can be completed very fast (some like 30 seconds fast) and give the same XP rewards as the lengthy "medium reward" quests in PvE lands. And, of course, its far more exciting when you can get attacked by an enemy player at any point. PvE zones put me to sleep.

Plus if you own the town, the NPCs help you out while you talk to the guest givers if you get surprised. Granted they aren't going to save you, but having that extra negate while being ganked by a NB and his DK buddy is definitely enjoyed.
