Hi,
Firstly thanks to Joy_Division for his/her recent and amazing post on the need to buff Templars. Wow. No, really, wow.
Here's what I have noticed in the last month since playing ESO (new to the game after a very brief try last year)... if you google PVE builds it boils down to this:
Magicka DPS = Altmer or Dumner, definitely Dunmer if vampire
Magicka Healer = Altmer or Breton or Argonian
Stamina DPS = Redguard (preferred since Morrowind) or Khajiit (extra crit, but that's getting nerfed) or Orc
Sometimes I may see Imperial mentioned, very occasionally Nord. No recent build on YT or on the various (excellent) ESO-fan sites mentions Bosmer.
And then there are the HYBRID builds that seem to be disdainful in the eyes of the min-maxers. I think this is too limited a viewpoint.
But generally, it's Altmer, Dumner and Redguard/Khaajit/Orc PVE builds. This is (in my new player eyes) very limited. Perhaps a way out of limiting the beginner's choice of a handful of races and ignoring the others would be to re-balance the race choice by adding racial weapon (innate) bonuses.
Examples...
BOSMER: wild elf, forest, would obviously (in my simplistic RP mind) favour BOWS (+ % critical hit bonus and % critical damage bonus) + improve existing PVP passive bonus to stealth that is basically useless for PVE. And as they are so close to nature (add BRETON here too), why not add an inherent bonus to PSIJIC skills?
ALTMER/ORC/NORD: large-ish strong folk may favour 2H axes (and 2H weapons in general) for bonus damage
DUMNER/KHAJIIT/BOSMER: bonus to a type of DW weapon
ALTMER/BRETON/ARGONIAN: bonus to staffs
IMPERIAL/NORD/ORC/REDGUARD: bonus to SS increasing DPS
This could provide more plausible PVE build choices for new and experienced players making the race selection much richer. Especially for people like me who'd love to choose BOSMER more often.
Otherwise, from a pair of fresh eyes, the community advises to play PVE, basically choose only ALTMER and vampire DUNMER, KHAJIIT, REDGUARD and ORC, far more than any of the other races.
If I'm reasoning poorly, please be kind.

✭✭✭✭No. Just no. I'm glad you're enjoying your time. But no. I like being able to change my weapons when I feel bored with my current setup. So NO. I don't want to spend 3k crowns every time I decide to change my weapon type to stay BiS.Edited by Ragnarock41 on April 3, 2018 6:41PM4 -

Wait... So wouldn't it be better for you to NOT have to build a specific race/class combo like you do currently to be BiS? I get that the examples @Shulien gives are basically just shifting the balance to make some classes not worthless if you want to be BiS, but like, that's your main concern is that you'd be "forced" to spend money because you bought into an unbalanced system? Your concern isn't that the system is unbalanced?
Regarding the OP, I like the idea of not restricting "good" builds to specific races. Started playing Tera recently and they seem to have worked out a good balance without getting rid of racial bonuses. And of course that's not to mention the million other threads here talking about race balance. Shulien✭Ragnarock41, i understand what you mean, but i do find that some races seem penalised and weaker than others, so i was trying to come up with an approach to allow other non-elite (BiS) race builds to compete. I don't want you to spend 3k crowns (i find that extremely expensive) but as a new player I would prefer to have a decent Bosmer PVE DPS and have others not being BiS in everything. Just saying.0

✭Races are pretty fine atm, there are some races a bit behind in some aslects, but prefered in others. Only concern i have atm, is that pvp is full of argonians...i dont talk about magicka classes here, i mean FULL of argonians. They are probably BiS for 60-80% of all pvp builds and that sounds a bit unbalanced to me.0 -

✭Races are pretty fine. Khajiits and Nords maybe need a look at but otherwise, feels fine. But I do not want to change races every time I want to change my weapon choice. And no races in TES history only excels in 1 weapon because of their races. What this would encourage is further pigeonholing because people will always want optimized builds over "fun" builds.Imperials, the one and true masters of all mortal races of Tamriel0 -

✭Races are fine, every race is playable. All depends on what you build for but I do think argonian is the best race in pvp and it’s not even close. And no I’m not trolling.0 -
Shulien✭This post wasn't about BiS or PVP... it is about how could we imagine to improve some of the "weaker" races for P V E Magicka and DPS builds... not so, for example, that a BOSMER would become BiS in P V E stamina DPS but just to improve them so we'd see more builds with all races and not just the fewer UBER BiS ones.0

✭✭✭✭No to weapon specific racial passives. I 'd hate that.
Other races getting some buffs I can agree with.
Redguard, argonian, high elf, orc, wood elf, dark elf are all solid (when you consider PvP as well). Some better than other still.
Imperial, khajit and Breton are a bit meh and could do with tweaks.
Nord is way behind.0
