Having events in general are a good direction of the game, but I think there is still a lot room of improvement regarding these. I strongly recommend taking a peek at how such things are done in NWO, in particular their Summer Festival, Winter Festival and Respen's Marvelous Game. These events are one of the best I saw in any MMO.

The jester festiwal was ok, I have nothing to complain about. All quests were +/- equal in content and time of completion.

I don't actually dislike the pig quest but I dislike that no matter what, only 1 of 10 times I don't break stealth when stealing the apples. My Vampire NB in full sneak gear (Night mothers, night terror) and all passives even gets spotted when no one is looking or already dead. Fix this and I'll like them all.

They are all pretty bad. The new life festival has it better (while still being tedious).

why cant we have events that promote something other than fetching?

here's a quick write up of a possibility that I'm literaly coming up with on the spot:

    Valentines/Xmas/Giving event::
1- X number of event recipes freely given to the players for the duration of the event (or easily found by being added to ALL loot tables)
2- player has to craft those recipes items and then use/gift them to one player of each opposing alliance.
3- there can be a leaderboards for the event, on which alliance/race/player has gifted the most that could give an extra ranked reward at the end (1st alliance get gold transmutation geode, 2nd gets purple, 3rd gets blue).

The most amusing part is when you're belting out "**** da police!" while throwing pedals and being chased by the guards, because you picked up a bounty running Jorunn's quest. When you've got a bounty, this one's pretty engaging.

Going into two delves and struggling to gather resources faster than others, find the NPC's that have to respawn. I was glad to see that they event was shortened this year.

2nd least favor is the stealth/ detection broken mechanic in Stonefalls. NEVER create a quest that does not follow the mechanics of the game.

Others have points out that it's the longest, bit for me it's the most annoying because the argonian King Emeric is just so stupid. It's not funny at all and does a bad job of satirizing the king. Jorrun and ayren are funny, the argonian is lame.

It seems a lot of folk voted for their favorite instead of their least favorite. Poll is all wonky now.

After running each quest 26 times, I gotta say I voted correctly. Oblivion take that damn lizard.

So RNG about the quest material dropping. I often had to kill more than 30 enemies per delve. Four of my characters are tanks. Slow tanks. I could not compete with 100 people for the guaranteed mats. This quest was such a mind numbing grind.

On the plus side, all of my characters have now finished Western Overlook.

Two Delves with limited resources, waiting for the fireworks to actually spawn so you can pick them up, AND THEN running around town makes Glenumbra the worst by far. It easily takes as long as the other two combined once you know how to do the other two quickly/have the College Wayshrine.

Definitely Emeric's quest, for the simple reason that it took longer than the others, and after finishing the achievements for all but the jewel recipe, I was running the quests for no other reason but to keep an eye out for the more rare drops in order to sell them. Even though there were only 3 quick and easy quests, they were once a day, and you didn't get a whole lot from 3 drops, so the way to get more was obviously to run more chars. When I ran all three quests on a char, it was taking me, just as an estimate, about 25 minutes partly because of the loadscreens, and that was with jumping out of the delves with guildmate travelling, because with the event going on, a mate was always in the right zone to travel with, and more often than not, was near the appropriate wayshrine. But if I only did the other 2 quests, it was more like 15 minutes or less. So, I generally got more drops if I just did the 2 quests, because I still had 15 chars to do all the quests on, and that was getting me 30 drops daily. In exchange for giving up on those last 15 drops, I was able to do the quests on all the chars before getting bored & frustrated, and losing out on drops for that reason instead.

Surprisingly, the jewel recipe was a rarer drop for me than the dubious camoran, but in the guild stores, it's the camoran which commands a higher price. My first 12 chars already had the camoran from last year, so, after the next 3 camoran drops allowed all 15 chars to have learned it, I still got about a half dozen more, and sold all but one as of this AM. I got 6 jewel recipes last year, and 3 dropped for me this year, but I prolly won't go out of my way to buy 'em for the other 6 chars.

When you're running 8 characters through the event you need to save time so you can grind XP afterwards. Running all eight of my characters took about 2.5/3 hours so there was no time left in my schedule to do some XP grinding.

Jester King Emeric's Quest (fetch 8 Dragonfire Crystals & Ayleid Bone Dust to make Fireworks then dazzle Daggerfall)
Since these kinds of quests (Event based) tend to cause you to repeat them over and over and over and over many times in order to get the one item you're missing or 'needing' they are by their nature annoying after you get past the initial fun of the event. If event material were simply 'fun' items this would not be the case, but when you have what many consider to be one of the best Stamina-consumables in the game for an event, lets say, you create a lot of concern to repeat things ad nauseum.

I chose the Glenumbra line of the quest simply because of its long duration with the Pig theft as a close second due to its making you a criminal and all the annoyance that entails. The actual humor of the little plays, the playing of the quest the first or first few times is not the problem. It is when you've done this thing for years and you are still farming it in order to get that 'other thing'. Why do Developers do this? There's a reason I'm not big on grinding pve stuff. I don't even like grinding things that are helpful to me. I buck up and do it but at the end of the day I do not want to do ANYTHING in the game repetitively over and over. I could go get a factory job or become an accountant and get paid for that (no offense to factory job or accounting people, you're getting PAID to do that). This is supposed to be fun. There is a thin line between 'Progression' and 'Work'. This is where I think the Pay-To-Win models of some games get really insidious. They suck out the soul/fun of a game to the point that you start getting the player base wanting to do real life work to avoid 95% of the game. The problem with this is that the player soon realizes that the game is a hollow shell. It is a façade and eventually players leave. There is a reason there's a backlash against EA right now and I believe the heart of it is related to this fact.

In short, Events can be fun but I do think Developers of all MMO's should be careful about it. I've left games over mindless repetitive necessities before.

So is it actually possible to steal the apples without getting a bounty? I tried a bunch of different approaches but was never able to get away clean. I finally just gave up and didn't even try after a while. I just burned through a stack of counterfeit tickets I had accumulated from "Remains Silent"! They were beginning to build up too many anyway.

I was just annoyed by the pig stopping if I tried to go any sensible way that would avoid having to pay a bounty for the pignapping. I did not steal her she followed me. I was also annoyed by having to go through the delves to get stupid sparkler stuff. I was trying to level a very new character fast with the bonus to experience. Delves are not fast. I didn't mind running around Vulkhel Guard since it was at least close to the quest start point.

On the Glenumbra twin delve hunting, my healer is a joy. She just buffed and healed everyone she saw. They killed baddies with no competition from her - but she got the corpses/loot also since the other players killed them while buffed by my healer. Win win for all. Lol.

Yes, its possible. I couldnt get it to work reliably though. I had better luck hiding on the far side of the chart, but again, not reliably.

I've heard a small number of players such as yourself say that it could be done, but I was never able to do it successfully, and to me, any and all efforts were a a failure and therefore a waste of time. So I just burned through it, and paid the bounty. On the other hand, I did find a way to successfully lead the pig back every time. Initially, last year, when I was returning with the pig, and when coming to the main island, if I went to the right, and up the stairs to the main plaza, I was caught every time. But, if I went up the other side, I was never caught, and was able to easily get the achievement on all of my chars.

If it wasn't for the need to go to not 1, but 2 delves, return, then let loose with the firecrackers in certain spots, and return again, for the Glenumbra quest, the Stonefalls one would have been most annoying. But at least it was quick once you gave in to the bounty, and took the proper return route. After all, after completing the achievements, the quests were only good for doing as many as possible in the shortest time & watching for the sellable rare drops.
