How do you (move your fingers to) weapon swap on console (PS4)?

It's not about how to swap weapons, it's about how you press the button on the PS4 controller.

I find it very clunky and difficult to use because I have to stop moving to use <- for weapon swap. The first time I played ESO on the XOne I had the elite controller and set the weapon swap to one of the paddles on the backside and it was so so so much better. Then I changed to PS4 to play with some friends and I find it quite difficult to coordinate the weapon swap with movement etc. because the PS4 standard controller is even worse than the XOne standard contoller due to positioning of the pads.

This question is mostly for PvP purposes (I do a lot of battlegrounds) and I'd like to improve my handling of the weapon swap.

So fellow PS4 players, can you tell me how you do it?

I guess jump and switch in the air? That way movement in whichever direction doesn't stop until you hit the ground, then you can get back to the joystick before you stop.

I changed my controls in the options so weapon swap is "hold triangle". It works pretty well for me.

That's not a half bad idea.

Well tbh I thought about getting the PS4 Nacon controller with the Xbox layout to have paddles on the backside (believe me, it's a massive advantage to have the weapon swap button there) but the "wired" controller is a major turn off for me. So I have to figure out some ways how to use it... better than I do at the moment.

Oh, never heard about an option like that. Is it in the default ESO settings? Can you do that with every button?

Did you put stealth on left arrow, or just say screw stealth?

That's how I tried to do it but I find this to be very clunky especially in hectic situations when you need to press X O etc. Is it no big problem for you?

Yep. I change weapons a lot more then I sneak so, it’s fine.

Join PC we have custom mapping with controllers, but if you must stay on console there are multiple preset controller layouts in the gamepad menu.

I changed weapon swap to up and pots to down. Having weapon swap be holding down a button is a bad idea as well, you will be wasting a ton of time.

When concerning PvP I only go in on my StamBlade, which is Dual Wield close quarters on the front bar, and Bow for long range on the back bar. I rarely have to swap bars during a chaotic fight cause my self heal is on my back bar, but most of the time if it gets that bad I'm usually down immediately anyway.

When I do swap bars it takes only a second to reach my thumb over so it's not very long at all when I'm not controlling the camera. I've learned to live with it.

I think I'll try this, I don't use sneak very often.

Just re-map it to R3 and put stealth where your weapon swap used to be. When you play other games, just toggle custom mapping off through the quick menu. Switch it back on when you return to ESO. Easy!

The consoles and the pc both allow you to remap the gamepad. They just went through the console interface to do it.

I don't play on PS4 any more, but I used to use my left index finger (temporarily loosen and move your hand round to help). Like playing 'claw' but not permanently. I did it with my right hand for hitting ability buttons as well. If I needed to hit the triggers immediately after I used middle, ring or little finger depending on what was closest.

Personally what I do is go into the ps4 settings, accessibility, button assignments and enable custom button assignments. Then customize them so that left d-pad is x, x is right thumbstick click and right thumb is left d-pad. Makes bar swapping with X very easy, your right thumb stick will let you jump or dodge roll and since it is mapped to the directional joystick it helps aim where you want to go easier. Left d-pad being stealth is much better than it being bar swap.

X being bar swap just makes it a lot simpler, quicker and easier for me to use. Took some time getting used to right thumb stick click for dodge roll, but I like it more in the end.

This sounds very interesting as well. Where do I need to do this, in the ESO settings or in the PS4 settings?

PvE-wise, it is quite easy. My left thumb is right on the left controller stick, and I can easily and quickly move that thumb back and forth to and from the left directional button, which is the current setting for weapon swap. I can do it while jumping or rolling. I must have a fast twitch thumb or something. However, PvP.. it is a butt sore too many times; the weapon swapping is either misfired or delayed.
    R3

The problem with R3, for me, is I tend to click on it a lot, unintentionally. Since the right stick is the same for the camera and R3, and I have crouch set with the R3, when I'm fighting and moving about, I tend to go into crouch/hidden, unintentionally. If I would have the weapon swapping as the R3, that would be a mess. I would likely be weapon swapping, unintentionally, as with the crouch/hidden, and that wouldn't be good as I would be going to the other weapon skill bar when I don't really want to. Going into crouch/hidden, I can still attack within the same skill bar and can click again to go uncrouch and still on the same skill bar.

Can someone politely explain how it is you remap buttons on ps4? Unless you are talking about remapping them at the console level beyond eso.

Hahaha funny you should mention that. After reading this thread I did the button switch. A combination of what you wrote and because it's new and still to be imprinted on my memory, meant i was kicked from a vet dungeon today and called a scrub. Rightfully imo. :D Got to the first boss and it looked like i was t bagging him on and off for the entire fight. Was still pressing the d pad to swap, but going into crouch.

A warning to others, the initial change will make you look just like that, a scrub. Regardless of skill level.

Nope, ESO doesn't have custom mapping on console.
What's being talked about is going into ps4 settings, going into the accessibility menu, and customizing the buttons there.
If someone is trying to say they are doing this inside of ESO, that is false. Cannot do it inside the game itself.
