Veteran Player Reimbursement: Morrowind

So we all saw that ZoS is offering a free copy of Morrowind to those who are going to buy Summerset. The question is: what are you going to offer those of us who already bought the Morrowind expansion?

I paid eighty-***-dollars for Morrowind, and from your own press releases ZoS is offering us nothing. Nada. Zilch. *** All. ZoS, you already screw us over with $60 motif books, and $50 assistants, and $130 houses. You screw over Australian and New Zealand players but locking them out of competitions. You are currently screwing veteran players by offering next to nothing new in the holiday event reward boxes. You are currently screwing us all over buy continuing to limit old items to $4 lootboxes when world-over lootboxes are being made illegal. Gameplay is half-arsed, all the effort we put into crafting and research is being undone and made pay-to-win. Literally all new content is being marketed towards the handful of new players that pop up per announcement, while veteran players who have been here for years and put hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours into this game are stampeding towards the cliffs of "Cancel Subscription" and "Delete Game".

So, tell me, what are you going to do for us veteran players that will stop us cancelling our subscriptions and bad-mouthing you to the world? Because, honestly, I'm this close to giving you up. I've put 2577 hours into this game, and up until recently I still loved it; but with all of this, I am having a very, very difficult time remembering why.

    jesus.. people are stupid

EDIT: also been playing since launch.. and i guess i could be more constructive, as this is common practice in MMO's otherwise people would be paying thousands of dollars to try something they may not even like.

do you want new players to play with? do you want a healthy game? its silly how you could be so ignorant and selfish and think you deserve something. like you said you have put over 2k hours into the game... YOU GOT WAY MORE THAN YOU PAID OUT OF IT.

Harshly written, but with a very strong point. I understand completely the frustration of seeing things we paid large ammount of money for turned into free gifts, without even a word of compensation for the loyal veterans. But, hey, it´s my humble opinion.

The nix-hound mount doesn't count for two reasons:

    1) It was not given to us as reimbursement for having to pay for an expansion pack that is now being given away; and,
    2) Even if it was, it is not worth $80. You know what is worth $80? 8000 crowns.

So, yes, we have the right to be pissed off about this.

This. I’m not sure I understand the outrage?

This happens with every game. Launch retail is at 60 bucks or more. A year later it’s going to be less.

This is it, mostly. Like almost every other game does, as content becomes older they want to incentivize players who don't have it to get it. In this case, ZOS happened to just make it free instead of discounted. It's like complaining about GOTY editions as a concept since they technically get the DLC for free bundled with the cost of the game.

I'm also not sure how 3 (well, 2 with one upcoming) new trials, 4 new dungeons and the retraiting system in a year are catering to new players, but whatever.

I don't get your argument at all - but maybe American consumerism is different. When an item because "old" such as Morrowind (meaning released a year ago) it generally goes on sale or given away in a package deal. Anyone who has shopped in the US knows you are going to pay a huge premium for a new item and in general we don't get pissed if A YEAR LATER it becomes part of a package. Battlenet does this with WoW releases, so why should ZOS do it differently?

This offering is a part of the pre-order bonus and will expire when Summerset goes live, possibly sooner.

I can only assume you got the collector’s edition of Morrowind to get the swag, so you have something else that isn’t coming with this pre-order bonus. You have also had access to the content for an entire year.

What exactly do you think you are owed? You bought the product when it was for sale because you wanted instant access on day one, and you got that.

[Snip]. You paid and bought it to play it earlier than a year later. That's how it goes! Other mmo's will offer up previous expansions as well with the current (EQ2 has done this with all expansions, ffxiv stormblood offered heavensward with it) [Snip].

When the news came out that Morrowind was free with a pre-order of Summerset and people started getting upset, I asked myself:

"Self, would I have waited a year to play Morrowind if I had known it was going to be free a year later?"

    LOL! Nope.

There was 0% chance I would have waited a year to play Morrowind if I'd known it would be free. Therefore, I've got no cause to be upset.

So we all saw that ZoS is offering a free copy of Morrowind to those who are going to buy Summerset. The question is: what are you going to offer those of us who already bought the Morrowind expansion?

All the time that you spent in morrowind along with all the benefits that came with the chapter and the fact that you have got to experience those benefits since you bought it.
I paid eighty-***-dollars for Morrowind, and from your own press releases ZoS is offering us nothing. Nada. Zilch. *** All.
Why would they offer you something? I know of no game that does this. You always pay more for being the first at getting something. You paid $80 for morrowind. I paid $30 or $40 for it a few months ago. Now some people are getting it for free. Who cares? And according to a recent poll on these forums over 75% of players dont care that its now free as part of promotion.
ZoS, you already screw us over with $60 motif books, and $50 assistants, and $130 houses.
Those are optional, if you dont like the price dont buy them. Do you buy everything you see in the (brick and mortar) stores?
You screw over Australian and New Zealand players but locking them out of competitions.
Actually, it is far more likely that it is the laws and regulations of those countries that lock them out of competitions, not ZOS.
You are currently screwing veteran players by offering next to nothing new in the holiday event reward boxes. You are currently screwing us all over buy continuing to limit old items to $4 lootboxes when world-over lootboxes are being made illegal.
If chance crates are illegal in your country and you dont want them to be, it sounds like you should be taking that up with your government. Also, what is in the crates is not necessary for gameplay. Just because you cant do it because its not legal doesnt mean everyone else should go without. You should take this issue up with your government.
Gameplay is half-arsed, all the effort we put into crafting and research is being undone and made pay-to-win.
You have no clue what P2W means like 99% of the people that sling it around on these forums. Download Game of War on your phone or an android emulator, play it for a month and then you will understand what P2W means.
Literally all new content is being marketed towards the handful of new players that pop up per announcement, while veteran players who have been here for years and put hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours into this game are stampeding towards the cliffs of "Cancel Subscription" and "Delete Game".
Thats how you get new customers. Obviously if you are a vet player, you do not need an incentive to play. What was offered before was obviously enough. Also lets not exaggerate, there is a very very tiny percent of players that will quit because of crown crates, "P2W" as you call it, no rewards for vets, and because people now get morrowind free as part of a promotion. In fact, you are probably looking at 10-20 new players for every one that quits for one of those reasons. More people will quit this game because of lag, d/cs, and bugs than because of all the reasons you stated combined.
So, tell me, what are you going to do for us veteran players that will stop us cancelling our subscriptions and bad-mouthing you to the world? Because, honestly, I'm this close to giving you up. I've put 2577 hours into this game, and up until recently I still loved it; but with all of this, I am having a very, very difficult time remembering why.
bad mouthing for what? Because you didnt get your way? because you didnt get a bunch of free stuff? Because someone else got a discount on something you paid full price for even though its considered old content now? Oh know! Gamers will boycott ESO the world over for such atrocities! Or they will just write it off as an emorage....im going to put my money on the latter.

You said you have spent 2577 hours. I suppose, you enjoyed the game and a decent part of this enjoyment came from Morrowind chapter (no reasonable man will spend this much time while suffering, right?). You paid for this enjoyment and you got it. You had an access to an exclusive content for the whole year, that's what you paid for too.

You didn't pay 80 bucks for the same thing players are getting for free first of all. It would have been what? 30 bucks to just get a digital base upgrade, maybe cheaper (just like now).

And if you had known a year ago you'd get it for free now, would you have waited? No, you wouldn't have - b/c you are the player that spends 80 bucks instead of 30 on an expansion.

Right, I mean what do you want to do? Delete any new characters created since last June, return any gold or items you got even indirectly from having access to Morrowind and battlefields, and reset your related achievements to get back $80 because of sunk cost fallacy thinking?

    Sheesh.

its more that theres a problem with how ZoS are accomidating new players vs the lack of accomidation for veteran players.

I kinda agree in that regard not completely but about half way.

Nothing new in the events since they started a few years back just the same things every time. The frustration come from wanting too play the game and the content but finding yourself in a repetitive cycle where everything always stays the same.

The OP wants change basically. Something new with events. Everything else is just frustration of the current games business model. Which too be fair might be "standard" it isn't exactly a loved model, they just get away with it. As he mentioned with the crown store though they will HAVE to change at some point if the legislation for the slot machines we have goes far enough.

What do you mean? Did you not get what you paid for?

You wanted Morrowind, you bought Morrowind, you got Morrowind. What are you still owed?

Are you seriously saying if you had known a year ago that this would happen, you would not have bought Morrowind? Then don’t buy Summerset, wait for a year and get it for free with the next expansion. Problem solved.

I bought Morrowind a month ago and I’m not mad - I’ve been enjoying playing it!

All this outrage is just baffling. I’m just happy to see that most players seem to understand that if you play the game, you support the game. Bundling old content cheaply is standard practice for getting new players into the game without raising the cost of entry too high. It is an entirely reasonable thing to do. It is entirely unreasonable to demand compensation at this point for someone else getting a different deal than you got a year ago. You got what you paid for. You are owed nothing.

You have absolutely no right what so ever to be pissed. Your complaint is like saying you paid 150$ for the original CE for WoW, but now you want a 140$ refund because you pick up the bse WoW game for like 9.99 or something. It also sounds like if you paid that much for you Morrowind you got the CE as well. So maybe you paid all that money for the statue that came with it, or maybe all the in game bonuses. Did ZoS ever give you a break down on exactly what your money went to "buying".

Another example..you bought a 40k car. You drive it for 10 years, now it's only 10k. Ford owes you 30k right? Prices of things always go down over time. You've never given a refund for anything else in these situation.
