It's a f****** scam operation.

Anyone can understand that it's a marketing decision to give a *free bonus: Morrowind* to get a major player's base and make it more appealing. Yet, they forgot (or most probably, don't care) about customer loyalty: I (among many, many others) played the beta, I bought ESO Digital Collection Edition, I pre-order Morrowind Digital Collectable, I'm a ESO+ user (yet, I also own almost all of the DLCs), and now I feel (with a thrilling degree of certainity) that I'm just part of an internal Zenimax (and/or Bethesda) list of fools that will pay and pay (and pay) while being bullied by the company (It's school, the lunch money experience all over again!).

Things are simple: this game (as all others) is just digital sh**, easy to add to a database, easy to remove, easy to setup (yes, difficult to create, but that's where the value comes). Having a group of people that is receiving something for free, while that something (Morrowind, if not following) had a price for the last year and a more invested group of gamers invested (pardon the redundancy) on that thing shows, at the very first, a huge amount of disrespect.

Give a discount for Morrowind, but it should have a pure upgrade version to Summerset (with all the goodies, of course). I mean, it's marketing 101: Price for A = X. Price for B = Y. Price for A+B < X+Y. Sorry for the math, but that's the way to push sales on two products: offering both together with a discount. (A is Morrowind, B is Sommerset). Offering for free, well, sends only one message to the shareholders: it was a mistake!

And yes, if the answer is that they can do whatever they want (License and Terms), still shows disrespect for the committed users.
If the answer is that they forgot, FIRE the marketing manager, he/she is useless.
And the excuse that I passed playing the last year the *exclusive* Morrowind content, well, at the buying time, wasn't clarified that the value of the item will drop to ZERO (not even for a short time, sorry, doesn't apply).

Now, do I get into the frenziness with a *whatever* attitude, or do I wait for July 4th, Thanksgiving, Xmas, or the next chapter to get the Summerset one for free? So far, I truly believe I'll go with the 3rd option: stop the ESO+, and retire from the game. Good run, but all things must come to an end, and it happens sometimes sooner than later. There are plenty of other options, so I'll take my business somewhere else.

I know I'm not the only one thinking and feeling this way but, I'm sure Zenimax/Bethesda won't give a damn.

And "I don't want to wait" is always going to cost you more. Getting bargains and freebies tends to require a lot of patience. That's just how business is done. They're going to charge full price while they can, charge discounted prices when sales drop to a point where the boost to sales is better than the drop to per-unit price. And they'l give it away when they judge it suits them to do so. They're hardly alone in this.

Believe me, I can, have, and will tear into ZOS for shady monetization, but this one is reasonable and normal.

(Man, some of you are going to be really angry if you ever buy a new car in the Spring and then see the close-out sales on that model year in the Winter.)

There is 0% chance I would have waited a year for Morrowind even if I'd known I would get it free a year from release. I pre-ordered it because I wanted it. So there's no point in me complaining.

But if someone wants this chapter for free, yeah, its likely they can wait a year and get it for free.

My question is; what did I pay for that I didn't get? I play on Xbox and bought the game just after release. I paid full price and got a few bonus items. I have been able to play the game ever since.

I bought Morrowind in July. I paid full price for the Collector's Edition and got everything that was offered at the time. I have been able to play Morrowind ever since.

I have had a sub for most of the time I have had the game. I have received all the sub perks that were promised for every month I have subbed.

Other people have paid less than I have and can access as much or more content than I can currently. That does not mean that I did not get what I was promised when purchasing the items I bought. ZOS offered a product for a price that I was willing and able to afford. I purchased said product. ZOS does not owe me anything else.

If new players purchase the Summerset chapter and are able to get the base game and Morrowind, they will be three years behind me. If they like it enough to keep playing it, that will help keep the servers on for all of us. I see that as a good thing.

I tried to pre-order the Summerset chapter as soon as I saw an in game announcement but it wasn't up on the Xbox store yet. I will probably pre-order this weekend. I will not get another copy of something I already have. Whether I pre-order or not, I will have to pay $39.99 for Summerset CE. I am not getting ripped off by ZOS.

This is standard MMO game lifecycle. Just look at World of Warcraft battle chest. You can get the game and ALL expansions now for $9.99US. Back when I was playing, each expansion was at least $40.

FYI: ESO player continuously since mid-August, 2013 during PC Closed Beta. Active ESO Plus, Guildmaster in-game (PC NA).

It has already been confirmed that the free Morrowind chapter is only for those that did not own it. The pricing has already been set for Summerset and posted. It won't change till sometime after release. Surely months later.
