Can we confirm? Did Spellcrafting die with the departure of the Konk?

I still can't think of one positive aspect Spell crafting could bring us. It would be either underwhelming and useless or overpowered and cheesy.

The game wouldn't be any more fun or even remotely balanced. Leave the Morrowind nostalgia and face the truth: Spell crafting would hurt the game!

I mean.. it would be nice if every class wasn't a cookie cutter build. Even between classes we're doing cookie cutter builds. Want to play stamina dps? Okay, need bow and dual wield. Okay, need caltrops, hail, poison injection, trap beast, blade cloak, rending slashes, throw in a class buff/heal and a couple class dots. Yay, everyone is the same.

I was hoping spellcrafting would really shake stuff up and allow for some unique possibilities. I was actually hoping ZOS would just stop obsessing about making everyone the same and allow us to find some awesome combos, and just be happy that with spellcrafting accessible to everyone, balance between classes wouldn't be so much of a concern.

It would add diversity. And diversity is exactly the thing this game needs.

You can't have diversity when everything is forced to appeal to the LCD (read: consoles).

Ever wonder why you can only have 5 skills? Only so many buttons on a controller. Why you can't click anything? Vast majority of console players don't use a mouse. Absence of real sub-bars (e.g. pet management?) See above.

I hope spell crafting never makes it into the game. It will give an enormous advantage to the players that sit and grind their game 10-15 hours every single day or make tons of gold by grinding some more, in comparison to players with busy lives or their own companies that have been developing their character for years, a few hours a week. This system would be nearly impossible to balance and if it does ever come out and mean that people who can spend 40-50 hours a week on this game can access or craft the best spells available in the game, that's the day I hit 'Uninstall'.

Sounds like you want to play a MOBA. MMO is about putting time in to improve character.

Spellcrafting did recently die.... in my heart.

Oh, neat, I found new emoticons. :star:

Why not add them all to the drop down menu?

You can play Final Fantasy XIV on console - and that game needs 20-30 slots for skills at once and guess what, it works. And it looks way better than ESO and has a much better performance. And they have a better UI and text chat. All of that is flawlessly working on console if you have devoted developers that want to make it work.

    Spellcrafting.

    Nice in theory.

    It'll be poor in practice.

I can see it now: "Zenimax Online is proud to present Spellcrafting as part of the new expansion Elsweyr."

    {20 minutes later}

    "Nerf! Nerf! Nerf! Nerf! Nerf!"

The complications of introducing new spells into a system which utilizes external assets to buff spell power will assuredly bring on new spells that get top billing, the rest garbage.

    Kind of like sets.

ZoS has a skeleton crew of real software engineers at this point, maybe even significant dev work is done by offshore contractors. They just don't have the capacity to do large features. Looks like they've prioritized art and assets over deveolpment in their budget.

That said, if what little dev expertise they have left is currently working on spellcrafting I will be very disappointed. There's so many more important tasks they could do, like fix performance.

They've said it isn't as many have pointed out. I just think people need to quit assuming it will be in every update b/c of datamining - some of that info has been in game for years and even new files could just be updated or additional info added as they work on it (b/c it probably will need major reworking from what they originally created as the game has changed a bit since then).

I'm hoping it will be this year as it fits in with the magically powerful Altmer theme. Even though someone mentioned College of Winterhold at one point as a good fit for it, it still seems better to me with Altmer and their ancient magic more-so than some Nord wizards.

It will probably be a major part of one of the DLCs they give us quarterly - maybe we'd get a little zone with it too.

Well, considering Bethesda just opened a new Battlecry studio in Austin, ESO doing a Superbowl ad last year($3mill +), gave away a million USD to a contest winner, and Zen Media winning a half billion dollar lawsuit with Zukerberg and Oculas, I really don't think lack of revenue is a problem.

The system that Nick designed is a great system, easy to balance, and is already coded. I hold faith that it will still make it to game someday.

Who said they don't have the money? They have! They're missing the desire to do it. It's mostly about cosmetic stuff nowadays. Looks nice? Great! Take it. The rest is negligible.

I mean there was new assets being added throughout the years as recent as dragonbones, they just may not have it ready for summerset and prob can add it in dlc kinda like how clockwork city added transmutation .

    Yup

Not a dead system yet. It’ll absolutely release one day. This is just another “no ETA” situation similar to Murkmire still not being released.

Actually, ZOS stated that there would be NO MORE 'group' zones added to the game after how poorly Craglorn did- and since Murkmire was scheduled to be a group zone, my guess it's been shelved. Haven't heard another word about Murkmire since they made that statement.

We will get spellcrafting at some point . Late 2019 maybe 2020 . ZoS does sit on content a long time but so does Blizzard and some other companies . It's a strategy to compete with new titles . ZoS has the money to hire who ever they need to finish up Nick's work when they're ready . Three or four updates a year seems like little growth to many but some MMO's are lucky to get one big update a year . This pace was set by the main team long ago . Most of what we've seen was showcased all the way to CWC and Blackmarsh in 2014 . They've sliced it up and served it in small portions for years and many people are use to the pace and remain patient and loyal to the game . Stay hopeful as we were told jewelry crafting was never going to happen by naysayers too .
