Would you play the game if guilds were exclusive?

With each and everyone of us soon joining the Psijic Order I was wondering... would you still play ESO IF:
  • Some guilds were mutually exclusive. You can't be everything.
  • Guild would accept only a very limited number of people and joining were a little harder than just saying Yes! to some random guy with a robe.

Certainly, the vastness and nearly infinite potential game has to offer. It depends on the outlook. For instance there are people who shall quit the game if their class is not:

Overpowered enough or PVP aspect is "bad" in their eyes.

Besides that why would I join the Psijic Order? We can play game in whatever way we want and joining the Guild be that exclusive or not is nothing but an optional choice.

Or An example, "There is nothing to do"

There are other types of players who will completely disregard the ability of joining the guild and focus on Role/play, Solo adventure, Exploration, Landscape or Story-line quests never even steeping foot in the guilds.

These type of guilds already do exist, at least very similar types , Strict RP guilds or someone with exceptional rules.

Why would anyone quit such an enormous MMO with incredible Potential , future and possibility due to one very tiny factor which isn't even essential, nor is the social factor.

The real point of my post is the freedom. There are no bounds, You aren't bound or forced to join a guild and a thought of quit is entirely unthinkable.

Yeah, why would I stop playing the game? Bit of an OTT suggestion

When I started as a mage I only did mages guild as I thought it worked like that, in a way shame it doesn't and we need it all to be competitive.

If you were limited to only being a member of one, sure.

If it was limited to number of players no, that would be bad game design.

It's hard to believe how little information there was in 2014 for someone simply logging into the game for the first time.

At first I wouldn't join the Mages or Fighters guilds, or player-made guilds, because since I had read you could join up to 5 guilds I was being careful to see what was out there first to make sure I didn't make any choices I couldn't take back.

If the game had launched that way with the guilds, maybe. But it will never happen now, they need people to buy those guilds. And it greatly reduces content. For example imagine TG dlc with out the TG quest. DB without the DB quest. And it sounds like the PO quest will be a large part of the content of summerset.

Without that content in those areas those dlc/chapters are worth next to nothing. No one would buy that crap. Unless they really wanted the trial. And I’m not sure trial runners are enough to keep the game afloat.

First off, i'll say limiting (this type of) guilds to a certain number of players would be a really bad idea, and would be the start of the end for me. I don't want to be restricted by the choice of other players.

However, having them be mutually exclusive would be great. Not ALL of them - and definitely not the ones that are existing in game already, as they've been standard in Elder scrolls games for years (and undaunted is good for getting people to group play).

I think when guilds are mutually exclusive:
    A) They should be released in the same update if possible.
    B) There should be a clear explanation of the advantages to joining each one - in game, not in the forums!
    C) There should be a good reason for them being mutually exclusive.
    D) If the guilds are friendly with each other (E.g. Dark Brotherhood / Morag Tong might be), then they should allow you to freely switch between them. If not, you should be able to defect at some point to the other side (Only once, perhaps twice)
    E) Some should have a combined quest line where they are enemies (E.g. like dawnguard/vampires in skyrim) and some should have a combined quest line where they are working together and you get to choose which one to join in the end.

Sure, I'd love it if certain guilds were mutually exclusive. Actually it used to be that way in TES games until TES IV and it felt more realistic.
Most of my ESO characters aren't part of NPC guilds anyway or only belong to a single one.

ZOS would lose $$$ on Hew's Bane and Gold Coast DLC's since nobody would be able to play through them if they already joined the mages, fighters, or undaunted guilds.

The guilds were never exclusive, even in the single player games (an exception being the thieves and fighters guilds in Morrowind, but there was a trick to get around that).

The mages and fighters guilds aren't enemies. I don't see any reason why they would exclude members of the other. Also, DB and TG are secretive organizations - the other more "noble" guilds shouldn't know about your membership in those.

You mean make alts more worth while? I'd jump right on it. Right now, alts are subject to doing exactly what my main has done. This would make alts a necessity for seeing all content.

Guilds exclusive? My thoughts on the matter are on record: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/387560/additional-guild-ideas-mk-ii

So, yeah, I would love to see some guilds mutually exclusive.
I especially would love to see guilds divided into "neutral" guilds like mages and fighters that take anyone, "chaotic" guilds like TG and DB that take criminals but do darn goody-two-greaves, and "lawful" guilds that only take upstanding citizens without any membership in the criminal guilds... so people can decide which side they want to be on with this or that character...

...I kinda wish they had thought of that back in the day, and made both DLCs with two guilds to join, playing the same story from one or the other side, depending on character fluff (it would hev been interesting to play the very same "investigate the missing treasure and find out the merchant princes dark past" story from the iron wheel side, while dealing with curruption and overzealous comrades... or go for the order of the hour and fight the evil assassins just to find out you are just being used to muddle the archcanons dirty little seecrets and have to do something about it to restore akatoshs grace or whatever... ;) )

And I also wish that more guilds were a little harder to join... like the thieves guild, I hate how they slap a TG membership on anyone visiting abah's landing to grab a skyshard, even when they are non-thievy... wish they would only actually unlock that membership -after- completing the introductionary quest instead... (and remove it from all who haven't)...
An "trial quest" before gaining the guild membership instead of just talking to robe guy/gal would be much appreciated.

Limited number of people tho, nah, that is not a good idea in a MMO - if there is a story around the guild, you want as many people as possible being able to indulge in it, so they will pay for the DLC...

That's a big no from me. I don't mind mutually exclusive guilds but they should work like vampire/werewolf. Can drop one and switch to other at any time.

For the first thing? Sure, I'd like that actually.

But the second thing would be ridiculous. Forget whatever balance situation that would make in PvP, imagine someone buying the Dark Brotherhood DLC and not being able to join the Dark Brotherhood or do any of the quests because there's too many players in it lol. Yeah, that would go over well.

I sort of do this already. Only one of my characters is in the Dark Brotherhood and even though it's impractical to avoid unlocking the Thieves Guild skill line because you have to avoid the map completely only a few of them have actually joined the Thieves Guild. I have 2 who aren't in the Mages Guild either.

As long as it made sense for the guilds I'd be fine with them being mutually exclusive or having harder requirements too. For some I think it works the way it is - the Undaunted for example will let anyone try to join but then they set you a hard (lore-wise) challenge right away. If you complete it then you've met their requirements to join, if you don't then you're dead and by default not in the guild.

Limiting the number of people who can join is a terrible idea however. There's absolutely no benefit for those who get in and it'd be extremely annoying for those who can't. Especially since there's no way to really tell who is inactive since the subscription is optional and therefore no reasonable way to remove people to free up space.
