This came up before, and we were given an option but now why do you force us into something we already said no to? I just don't really see why our friends and Facebook info is relevant to you. :/

You've never been able to say no to the privacy police and play the game. If you said no it would just log you out of the game.

It's to do with their marketing and targeted adds, this is how the entire internet works now and you've accepted plenty of these without ever reading them just by visiting websites (including these forums).

I did not want to create a new specific thread just for that, but it really annoys me to have to approve a modified contract without knowing the changes. A version comparison feature (or at least a "change note" similar to patch notes here on the forum) would be most welcome.

I read it last night (mostly out of interest because I knew these threads would happen), it was really nothing shocking just the normal gathering your basic information so they can have Facebook, Google etc. display adds which are relevant to you (basically show you more Bethesda stuff so you might buy it)

Will actually point Gina to this as it's a good idea and might stop some of the worry every time they update it.

They pretty much are required by law to show you this and have you agree to it.. Kinda like police officer in america must give out Miranda rights. Just scroll through it and click yes and your done. Don't even need to read it but its there for a reason just like the terms of service. Its a legal thing and its just the way it is. I doubt many players even read them they just scroll through and click yes to everything or I agree. Its there to protect you, other people and them legally. To show what rights or rules they have. Whats changed things like that, just don't worry about it and you'll be fine just say yes to everything.

Really? I never knew that, apologies.

The update was only for EU though, so it might be they have to enforce it now or just needed to amend some wording to work with EU privacy laws.
My guess is it was changes to comply with the changes coming on May 25th. http://www.wired.co.uk/article/what-is-gdpr-uk-eu-legislation-compliance-summary-fines-2018

People should *always* read what they sign, and read it carefully.
The problem is that most times it's too long, written in some confusing jargon, and people are not aware of the potential consequences. But that's no reason to tell people "it's ok you don't have to read it, just sign here"... I doubt there's anything in particular to fear from ZOS, but as a rule of thumb, people should read and understand - after all, we're required to confirm that we've read and understood...

It might still be possible to opt out via email, but sadly you would need to contact them and remain out of the game until that was handled.
The agreement also comes up if you attempt to access you account page FYI, as I had to agree to it last night to view mine.

It does matter... and it does matter too to know what the words mean. Even if you are "forced" to sign.
I for instance don't have anything to fear from data being sold from FaceBook or Google usage, since I don't use the former at all, and I carefully removed anything Google-related from my PC. Even if you don't get that far, there ARE opt-out options, cookie-blocking add-ons and various tools for privacy protection that people can use.
People should stop being so passive, imho.

It's been there for a while now. There was a huge uproar when it was added or when it first became noticed and they changed their privacy policy the last time.
I remember speaking to Jess about it before and she said it was just for them to send you Zenimax Media advertising, so basically stuff to do with TES: Legends, Bethesda games etc.
I know if you want to take part in the free cards offers for TES: Legends you have to have it enabled to get the emails about it.

Newsflash. If you are on a computer with personal data on it, and connect to the internet, chances are your data is being exchanged far more often than you think, regardless of your permission. "Thats Illegal!" <--- Yeah that works everywhere. Its been this way for a very long time.

Even if you read early TOS's for most services, including games they typically include a provision of altering and changing it without notice or consent. Nothing new, nothing out of the ordinary.

most companys including councils , govements, colleges , universitys they all can sell this information on , and most of them do .because of the facebook saga this might change in some govements , will make them re-word the aggrements so you know what you are agreeing to .

where do you think we get the junk mail from and phone calls , you know the drill if you can please take a few minutes to fill in this questionare .

to answer your question its most probally to sell the information on , so companys can target you to sell you something .

In may this year the law changes around information companies can hold about you, you also now have the right to be "forgotten" in some cases meaning you can submit a request and they must delete all data they hold on you that is not a legal requirement to store

You can also ask to see all data they hold on you and it now has to be supplied free with in 30 days and no details about you can be kept on file with out your express permission

This last part will require you to agree to a new privacy policy granting them the right to store your details, name birthdate and email address are on the system ... As well as your gaming tag ... Meaning they have a list of information that if stolen could let hackers steal your account and maybe other accounts ... While they're not safe from prosecution if this information is stolen they can be prosecuted if it was found they held it with out you agreeing to it

You're totally wrong on this ... Its due to a new law to prevent such things

No company can sell on your details as only the company with your details that you've exoressly permitted can store your info ... Other companies can be hit by new fines for these breaches it would not be cost effective to obtain details this way anymore

I'm slowly getting less spam calls as cold callers now apologise and say I'll remove your details with out having to ask ... Though some have tried to ask permission to keep and I've asked fur the company name then declined

Go to your ESO account. You will find that the new privacy policy has flagged your account automatically to share your email with third part websites so they can send you "ESO type" emails/information. Essentially ESO has just automatically offered to sell all players emails. You can turn it off but I am guessing Zenimax is counting on the average person to not even notice

This was a change a while ago, and it was so Bethesda could send promotions for their games. Like the TES Legends offers for ESO+ members.

The changes yesterday were only for EU and likely due to major changes in EU law coming later in the year.

This is probably to do with NDA for the upcoming pts in the next month they did the same thing last year and maybe if u take the same steps you did last time they might not make you agreeto there legal document. I also don't understand what any of this has to do with Facebook zeni doesn't ask for that info during account creation so I'm confused.
