Should there be a minimum allowed HP to consider yourself a tank?

Now, maybe I am completely off base on this...and feel to correct me if I am...I haven't been back long...(now grant it i'm talking about random pledges/dungeons), but since I have switched to playing a healer it is driving me crazy people queing as a tank with sub 20k health...I just feel like these people are just queing that way so they get a group fast...I am at least currently feeling like there should be some basic requirement like 25 or 30k + health to que as a tank...am I wrong with that thought process...is it possible to implement such a restriction...grant it there are more difficult obstacles with these groups...and I get HP isn't the only thing that makes a tank a tank, but people with 17k HP and taking big damage spikes for 90% of their health seems ridiculous at times.

Mag Sorc tank can get away with pretty small amounts of HP, as long as they maintain shields.

No. How about lerning that not everyone queues as the proper role, and Group Finder sucks.

    There, problem solved.

How can you tell how much health someone else has? Is there an add-on for that?

No, every platform has the ability to see everyone's health.

Personally whenever I encounter a tank in a dungeon with less than 27K hp I go through a three step process
1: I ask them about their food buffs, and if needs be offer them a couple of servings of withered tree (+4K tri stat food)
if they refuse/have a better food then I move onto the next step
2: I warn them about the fact that their HP is below the recommended level for a tank and advise them to improve it (as well as offer info on a few ways to improve it)
3: Give them three strikes (wiping due to tank death or the tank being 1-shot is a strike) at the end of the three stikes, it's vote-kick time

Being able to play is more important than how much health the tank has.

I've pugged with tanks with 40k health that died constantly and took huge damage spikes because their resistances were low and they didn't block or interrupt properly.

I've also played with tanks with 25k health that were immovable fortresses.

That said, I do agree it would be nice if there was some sort of role check on dungeon finder. I'm not concerned about normal as a good player can carry a bad group. But on get at least stop players from q'ing as multiple roles.

In the end though, randomness is the joy of pugging.

when i'm questioned why i'm tanking with 17k health i'd just say i'll switch to heavy armor at boss fight

if it goes smoothly i might just stay in medium armor til the end

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How exactly do i want to sit on my 50k+ hp trial tank and waste time with 2 dd that does like 30k dps combined? Turns out bad dd tends to complain more cuz they suck.

i once pugged vet IC Prison and the tank was a Sorc with less than 20k health and he did an outstanding job.
Never died, never got into any trouble, even did some dps as an added bonus.

Obviously that isn't the norm, but setting hard numbers means there's a chance you'll be eliminating someone who really knows what they're doing just because they don't meet some arbitrary number.

My MagSorc has 16.4k health. If I slot inner fire I can tank most non-dlc content using power surge, boundless storm, and hardened ward. I don't die...usually.

My vDSA group uses a tactic on the last stage where the healer (me) tanks the main boss while tank pulls the mini-bosses away from dps and me. I tank the boss the whole fight, with 16k hp and resistances of 8k phys and 14k mag. I do swap one bar to s&b to help with blocking and am doing no damage, but putting a limit on hp is just silly and would do more harm than good.

Yet another thread that is, Why not make a builds the same boring cookie cutter. This is what it comes down, do they have these skills, do they have this attribute distribution, do they know this knowledge. if this was the criteria set for a game then there would be no choices.

Don't like this then stay away from PUG's and enforce your views within your own circle of friends/ guild. Stop trying to may minimums for others to also impose.

Magsorc is the only tank setup that can somewhat reliably tank with low HP. Every other tank should be sitting at least at 25k unbuffed.

Those magsorc tanks, however, are not viable for a lot of content, and I personally HATE running with them when on my dps or healer. Having a 13k health pool and relying on hardened ward to save you from all damage is foolhardy, especially when any kind of CC or momentary lag can cause you to be unable to refresh ward quickly enough to avoid a one shot.

It's the power creep dawning on us. I can survive fungal grotto sword of death on my healer or dranos chains from craddle on my tank since 720 hit. The proper allocation of champion points makes so people tank then tanks. Though there's a limit if your health can disappear in two shots it's time to vote to kick. Honestly though anything below 25k you are a burden.

    1. Game needs a tutorial to teach people the responsibilities and requirements of the different roles (rather than assume people will know or will look it up)
    2. Each dungeon should be labeled with a difficulty rating system perhaps to start just be easy, medium, hard, very hard. but a more indepth one with warnings about complicated mechanics and one shots would also be nice.
    3. Unfortunately as noted how much you need really depends the particular content and even particular bosses in that content, I feel like this is actually part of the reason no one wants to tank. I know I am afraid to fail.. with my 32K hp 27 mag 15k Stam tank. I miss a block and die and waste everyones time.

In that case type: Ask for vote kick, if fail type: Eject eject eject in group chat and leave group

    Pretty good point

Always agreed we need some kind of training for dungeons new players and a difficulty information would be nice
