Dear ZOS, you are one good idea from the greatest game ever...

Dear ZOS,

I really think this game is amazing. In fact I think you are just one great idea away from a masterpiece. Your outfit system is fantastic. Your housing system is great. But your true stroke of genius was One Tamriel. With that change, suddenly every monster and every zone in this entire game was my monster. It was my zone, my harvesting node. The fact that my wife or nephew or daughter can log on with a new character and play with me immediately is a stunning achievement. But its real impact was the fact that everywhere is suddenly relevant to me. I am not condescending to play with them, these zones I play with them are my zones. I have out leveled nothing...that changed the feel of the ENTIRE game in a spectacular way.

My point: if you can pull off one more idea like that, one that doesn't merely add something to the game, but multiplies the effect of all of it again, I truly think this game will be etched in history.

What that idea may be ZOS will have to decide, but let me nudge in the direction I think that the idea lies. I think it will be in completely reimagining the daily quest aspect of the game.

That may sound silly to some, but I'll briefly explain. You have created a world that everybody acknowledges to be spectacularly beautiful. You then transformed this massive beautiful world such that every nook of this world was relevant to my level. Now you need to come up with a way to truly draw the end game players back into the diverse regions of this world. I am thankful for the daily tasks we have, but what if each day that I logged on, one of the zones was the emphasis of the day and there was truly a reason for me to spend the day in that zone? What if for example a giant event was building up in the zone that day and it was sped along by players doing dolmens, delves, and world bosses there? What if each day I was eager to see how close the zone of the day's tipping point was to triggering the massive event? What if this "event" happened on that day only from every 2 to 8 hours sped along by how many or how few normal events we players were completing. Think of how something like that would transform the entire game again. What if now all these gorgeous and level relevant zones really truly pulled me back to them day after day to remarvel at what you created. I'm just throwing out a suggestion. But I really think one good idea that doesn't add to what you've done, but multiplies it again like One Tamriel, would make this game a masterpiece. And I suspect the idea would be about reimagining the daily quest system of the game.

Keep up the good work.

Once they can or able to separate nerfing toons' abilities for PvP and PvE, then, we can talk..

If you want to transform the game to how it should be played, let's get better servers and fix all the known bugs.

That's going to be a necessary step towards your vision of a zone event. From past events where you get a lot of people flocking to one zone and one area, lag inevitably happens. Unless you want your event to look like a laggy faction-stacked keep take in Cyrodiil, the servers, the lag, and the bugs all need to be dealt with first.

I actually think something like this could work. The rewards could even be zone specific for completing the daily quests.

I love how ESO can pick you out of a crowd in any big city and tell people around you that you are the HERO who saved the Queen. This game doesn't forget it's HERO'S

The division does something like this with its GE system. The global events affect enemies all over the overworld and 4 man content with a crazy condition, and you can choose to make it harder or easier for more GE points. GE points are spent on crates containing gear.

How would this work in ESO?

For four days, every enemy would have some condition to them. Ie- take more damage up close (10m or less). You can then choose a harder difficulty where in addition to those conditions, enemies over 10 meters away do more damage to players when selecting a dungeon, and a third tier with maximum rewards that takes the previous two effects and adds a buff to group dps if they are 10m or closer to each other, nerfing their damage if they are more than that distance.

The normal dungeons would give a small amount of credit, vet dungeons a larger credit, and HM completions the maximum credit, each multiplied further by the tier you chose (which effects). For ESO, I'd rather see the event currency allow for purchase of event themed collectibles, motifs, and perhaps crafting materials.

The base effect (in this case the close range damage buff) would affect every pve mob in the game, barring veteran trials mobs (or scores would be out of whack). This includes only mobs, not players, in cyrodiil and IC. This means delve bosses and public dungeon bosses also give these event credits, and would encourage people to do them as well.

I suspect that whatever the idea would be, it would not simply be a new mechanic, system or zone. What was so magical about One Tamriel was not that it gave me something new, like a new zone. It gave me back everything that had been in my rear view mirror. It gave me back Glenumbra, Deeshan, and Reaper's March. It essentially gave me the entire game again.

That's why I think it is going to need to be about daily goals. The current dailies essentially have me go to the closes way shrine, and experience the least possible amount for the task. What would launch this game into complete greatness is if they did something -again- to give me back the entire game. A COMPLETELY reimagine and more engaging daily event/quest/task system, would re-engage me into all the beautiful zones that already exist. I'd love more zones, but more than anything I think ZOS should give me glenumbra just once more. Give me the whole world again, just one more time. If they think of a way to do that again, we'll never get over ESO.

While that does sound cool, the problem becomes meaningful rewards. Lots of things are fun in the game for a bit, but quickly drop off simply because there is no reason to keep doing them. And that is where I think this idea would end up. Sure it sounds fun, but after doing it a couple times why would I care enough to keep doing it?

Also in before but I hate DB why do I have to go there for my improved dailies.

Vyndral, maybe so. ZOS would need to figure out such things. I'm not saying they should just run with my idea. I'm simply suggesting an general area of the game where I think there is room for such an idea to happen. I definitely want the new content to continue. I love new dungeons, new chapters, new zones, new systems. But none of that will transform the game the way One Tamriel did. It will just add to an already great game. I'm hoping they can come up with a great idea to where the whole existing game, with all its zones, matters and draws me into fabulous zones in a new way. What that idea could be is anybody's guess.

I'm saying that if they can find some way to take the zones that have been opened up to us through One Tamriel, and now simply add a way for those zones to engage all players again, THAT would truly make us lose ourselves in ESO long term.

While I'm in full support of Zone events, I fear the repercussions this would cause. Even during just the annual events, zones became so populated that arguments about ninja looting, not getting credit for killing a WB, etc just became so tiresome for some that people just preferred going to a less populatd area after doing the dailies. However, if zone events gave worthwhile rewards, those arguments would become even more toxic as now everyone wants these rewards and problems like ninja looting lead to even bigger problems (Blacklisting can only go so far when there's a limit to how many you can blacklist). Then there's server issues that would need to be addressed as there is bound to be congestion at these events and there's nothing more annoying than being kicked from the server, just as an event starts.

Maybe I'm just being overly cynical and I'm worrying for nothing but still, doesn't hurt to see the full picture instead of just the good bits.

I have mentioned this concept before, but I think it would be a nice compliment to any system of dailies for endgame players. Any numbers I mention are of course open to rebalancing.

    UNDAUNTED MEAD

Acquired by trading 1 undaunted key to the Undaunted Quartermaster.

For 1 hour, decrease max health by 5000. You do 100% less damage to overland monsters, and they do 100% more damage to you. While active, defeated world bosses, delve bosses, dolmen chests and quest rewards will yield substantially more gold and a small chance of rare items (akin to those dropped during the dungeon finder event). Quests that already have a chance to yield rare items have an increased chance of doing so while the player is under the influence of Undaunted Mead.
