Xbox One X. How much better does it perform vs standard Xbox One?

I’m on the fence about getting one but I’m wondering how much better it actually performs.

Update: I purchased the One X and there is a substantial difference in game play between the two consoles. When I load in anywhere everything from players to npcs to traders are loaded instantly. Load times have been cut in about half. Busy areas are no longer choppy. I am happy with my decision to pick one up.

the search function would do you well. By all accounts I've read, it helps. Some say its a great boost in performance, especially in Cyrodil and load screens. Others observe an improved performance but not markedly so.

I've got a regular XB and don't have any issues I can blame the console for.

Well I have searched but I keep finding more speculation stuff rather than people who have actually had both. I just crash so much in places like Vivec and Elden Root and it gets super choppy when places get busy. I’m just wondering if the 1x would handle those situations better really

I’ve had my x for about a month now. No lag issues at all. And no dc. Only issues I encounter are when they are actual server issues

From what I've come across in various forums, it makes a difference but I can't speculate on the dc's. It could be your internet, it could be the freaking magic connection fairy.

I have some nights where I get dc'd two or three times a night but then I will go 2 weeks without one. Usually it's from interacting with something in a busy way; doing several inputs very quickly in a busy area.

My suggestion would be to use the money to buy an elite controller. It makes a world of difference in all aspects of the game. Input time is faster, the triggers are faster and my light attack reaction time is faster. Less time holding down a trigger for heavy attacks...and the back paddle buttons allow for better use of synergies, weapon swaps, etc... while keeping your thumbs on the sticks.

Well I do have times where I dc because of server issues but I’m talking about when I load into Vivec for example and the game crashes on me. I don’t think my internet is the issue, I’ve got 200mb speeds

you don't get lag in the zergs of cyrodil? That sounds impossible to me. I have 100mb download / 20 gb upload, and I still get like 5-8 fps when I'm within 200 meters of a zerg. I'm on Xbox One.

    I'm personally not convinced the small performance gain is worth dropping another chuck of money on a fancier xbox. Sure, you might not dc at all anymore but the question i;

    is that worth $600?

    Are a few inconvenient dc's worth $600?

The Xbox 1x is supposed to have more ram and faster processing speeds which is supposed to help lag and choppiness in those situations.

So, I can say from experience when I upgraded to 1 X I saw the following:

    1. ) Load screens were cut in about half (between areas of a map, not when loading into an instance like a dudgeon or house, or moving to a new zone server, that is faster also but hardly noticeable).
    2. ) Textures are more detailed.
    3. ) Water looks way better.
    4. ) If you have a 4K HDR Tv, the lighting effects are noticeably better.

The Xbox x has got more juice. Things load better and easier which makes you lag less. For me on Xbox it’s when the FPS gets low I then notice I get kicked out. Look at PS4 vs PS4 pro PvP on YouTube and you can see an improvement in lag and FPS. This would be the same for the X but slightly better

It’s great for gvgraphical improvements and load times....IF you also have at least a 4K hdr tv at 240 Htz

Do not expct much else out the box because for this game that’s all it’s supposed to do.
Anything else is an opinion most often or user setting based with their other devices.

If you don’t have a 4K tv, in my opinion, you’re wasting your money ....wait and get both
Also DO NOT buy it thinking you’re getting improved FPS

As for the Xbox One X you will see around 25% improvement in fps stability in fights.
For example if the stuttering fps drops start around 30 people fight on a regular xbox , for one X it will be around 40.

I'm also considering whether to get the One X. I don't have a 4k TV, but the loading, lags and disconnects are getting quite bothersome. I'm also getting low storage. I'd gotten the smaller storage Xbox One :(

I played on a superpowered PC, then Xbox One (launch), now on Xbox One X. I'd definitely say it's worth the 500 if you want faster loads, less load screens while randomly running through town, and graphics about as great as on a powerful PC. But that all depends on what you're looking for.

Well, small performance gain? Compared to what? When you're just talking about ESO you might be right but overall the performance gain is massive. I changed from PS4 to PS4 Pro and that's a huge difference (and the PS4 Pro is significantly weaker compared to the One X).

Oh and neither the One X nor the PS4 Pro do improve the disconnect/lag issues. They're on ZOS' end.

    I JUST bought an X and a 4K TV.

But let's talk about the X....

I see a difference in load times, pop in and less crashes.

I also feel like trials are better because it doesn't run as choppy at all.

Worth $500? Not for ESO alone, no, but there is a substantial increase in performance.

To be more specific from my previous post, I still at times get infinite load screen on One X, however, normal load screens go roughly twice as fast. It's very noticeable, for example, when you're doing a Dolmen run and load into the next wayshrine before any of those with a normal One. The One S will also load faster than a normal One, it just won't be quite so apparent.

The ability of the One X to handle more things loading at once makes it so that you rarely if ever encounter a loading screen just by running. Oftentimes on my launch One I would be running through the wilderness, not even sprinting, with my max speed mount, and the game would quickly send me to a load screen. I have only had that happen once on the One X, and that was in a very highly populated area.

The graphics are significantly improved to where it looks almost as good as on PC. As far as frames-per-second go, the One X has a solid 60 FPS, constant so far as I've noticed (EDIT: It seems as if this may not be the case right now, possibly due to a patch, or perhaps I misjudged due to my TV or another weird configuration of my setup at the original time of writing this. Regardless, the framerate is solid and smooth, and doesn't stutter at all as far as I've seen). The launch One stays around 30, and may drop in certain situations where there are a lot of players or mobs nearby. The One S as far as I've seen (I have seen but do not own a One S) has a constant 30 FPS but doesn't tend to drop below that. My PC of course had me at a solid 120 FPS, sometimes more, but that's not significant to my eye from the One X's 60.

The rest of the graphics? Lighting and shadows are the most noticeable upgrade from the One or One S to the One X, as well as some sorely needed anti-aliasing. It looks pretty much like it has all the sliders on PC set to high or ultra. The One X isn't exactly where my PC is, but it gets really, really close. To my eyes, even when I was on my 1080i TV, the lighting, anti-aliasing, decals, all that good stuff, was still significantly improved. With my 4k TV I'm not sure I could go back to my launch console.

Outside of that there aren't many ESO specific quality of life improvements over the One for the One X. The console itself tends to be a bit more responsive, the tiniest of bits with the controller and a significantly larger bit with the console UI, and it has a terabyte of space (if that's an upgrade for you), but overall it's still the same game with the same bits. You still, for example, cannot customize any of the graphics sliders on the One or One X like you can on PC.

My preference is to the new console, and I definitely think it was worth the $500. I play many games, but ESO was the primary influence, especially since I came from PC, and not all games take advantage of the One X's power. For anyone else it depends on how much they desire the same but more powerful hardware. The only real question one needs to ask is "Is a bit better graphics and speed worth $500?"
