I tend to marathon netflix shows when I fish. becasue Votan's can be set up to give you a sound alert for when to pull again, I only occasionally glance at the screen to make sure the hole is still there to fish from. turn down most sound from the game, BUT sound effects and then just watch.

disclaimer. up until this point i mostly fished sporadically and when coming across several holes within reach of each other and only now started fishing more regularly. but... even so I try to only fish at most 2 hours at a time (or 2 or so episodes) it both helps to stave of the frustration and I kinda don't have unlimited time a day :P

What is the hardest zone you've fished so far?
For me it's Rivenspire Ocean Fish - snakehead in particular.

Do you have any theories about increases in luck?
I've once thought caldwells hat increases a luck factor. Why? How has Caldwell survived in Coldharbour? :)
Second, have you ever laundered and held onto "lucky" pickpocketed items? I've kept lucky Neriad foot and good luck charm.

I really don't think it helped but maybe!!

The most difficult fish were the blue foul ones in The Rift and Stormhaven–they took ages, and an alarming amount of crawlers to drop. The easiest zones were Glenumbra and Coldharbour. I think it's probably pure coincidence, but I found that when I returned to a stubborn spot in a zone after taking a break, I’d get a rare fish within the first few casts, even though I might have been trying for hours previously. Didn’t think to carry a lucky charm, but I do have a laundered Vanus Galerion doll in the bank! :grimace:

I was literally about to do the rest of the rift. I believe I only have the muskellunge left out of the river though.

this may be anecdotal. but I'm starting to think that whatever is the last fish you need? is going to take the longest. doesn't matter if its the one where fishing holes are plentiful or there's only 2 of them for the entire zone. if its the last one you need? it will take twice as long as the rest of them combined.

at least that has been my experience so far, so I started to preview zones for the availability and finish out the types that have fewest available holes - first. that way at least I don't have to wait for hole respawns as long when I'm hunting for that last illusive fish.

I have to disagree. I've pretty much fished up shadowfen and east march. Needed the coelacanth, white river pickerel, and king sturgeon. Caught the. All within an hour.

It's just luck. Sorry you've had some bad luck!

if I didn't know better I would wonder if ZoS is trolling me.... it took me almost a week of daily checking several times a day and fishing whenever there was a hole to fish - to get the billious catfish in Grahtwood. it took me slightly less in terms of days, but about same when it comes to total fishing time to get my last blue ocean fish in greenshade, but at least ocean holes are plentiful there so i just started watching expanse will getting through those. Cyrodil - that last foul fish, omg. I thought ocean would be difficult but nope. it was easy. fault fish was the last one I had and it took longer then everything else combined. consistently, as I go from zone to zone... fish types I get done first are relatively fast, only take a few holes. last fish i need? takes hundreds of fish and dozens of other rare fish, BUT the one I need, before it drops.

and don't even get me started on perfect roe. currently trying to decide if with my luck, its actualy more profitable to sell unfilleted fish in a guild store. yes. that bad. its a really good (and rare) day when I get a roe per every 150 fish.

I realize that rng is supposed to be random. perfectly random. and yet... I keep comparing it to other people's experiences and everyone seems to be doing far better then me. i understand, logically that its pretty much most certainly not the case that Zos is deliberately weighting down my account with lower then usual rolls. but when faced with my actual experiences, I cannot help but try on that tinfoil hat.

i agree with the comment above. this achievement? is making making me question everything. my priorities. my sanity. why the heck am I even torturing myself this way. if there is a conspiracy to make it harder on me then on other players (yes, i know there isn't. hence questioning my sanity)

no, but seriously, i currently have multiple zones where i have one fish left and just kinda going between them day by day for change of scenery at least.

When I was going for Master Angler, I was joking that as the overall number of fish to catch decreases, it takes exponentially longer it to drop a given fish in a zone, because you're getting closer to the achievement, and the game knows

As I've fished on several characters... I think the specific fishing hole matters most. There are some places I've just never had any luck with any character while others I do well on any character.

The Rift... Those few river spots drove me crazy.

There are a couple of River spots inside the Public Dungeon. One by the waterfall when you first come in and down the path to the left (you have to kill an NPC that's fishing there) and then 2 or 3 in the cave where the group challenge is.

OP, the Midget Salmon in Alik'r and one of the blues in Malabal Tor. And one of the ocean greens in Stormhaven.

I think you may be onto something here /desperately searching for any rhyme or reason.

so far, it seems regardless of the order in which I fish, or how many available holes of a type there are per zone - foul fish is the one that takes me longer then all the other types combined. which means Coldharbour is going to be "awesome"

no, not really - I already did some fishing there and have 0 rare fish caught so far.

I think I'm going to knock it out next, just to get it out of the way.

sounds like a regular day to me. STILL fishing for the Ouze Toadfish. I think I may or may not have gone through 5 full stacks of crawlers so far.

you can set votan's to give you audio cue. its what I personal use. just look in settings, there should be an option to enable auto cue AND chose which sound you want it to be.

as sure as the fact that its what I'm using personaly :) in reel-in event settings, right under animation setting - between it and color setting actualy, there is a setting for sound, where you can chose which sound effect to use. personaly, I'm using achievement sound, as its fairly sharp and loud and I won't confuse it with other sound effects.

to set it up - go into settings, addons (not add-ons, don't ask me why there are 2 separate setting tabs, i have no idea) - scroll down to fisherman. when you select it you can see all the settings you can adjust

@jaye63 @Linaleah I believe that's the one you have to fish for at night. There is a lorebook about it somewhere along the coast.
