How is the situation regarding gear tiers?

I started playing again after 2 years a month ago, so I don't know. I'm wondering, did they ever say they plan to add new gear tiers like they did with IC or is 160 CP stay around for longer time (years?). I ask because I dont know if I should collect gear I might use in the future just only to see it obsolete before I even use it.
