How is the situation regarding gear tiers?

I started playing again after 2 years a month ago, so I don't know. I'm wondering, did they ever say they plan to add new gear tiers like they did with IC or is 160 CP stay around for longer time (years?). I ask because I dont know if I should collect gear I might use in the future just only to see it obsolete before I even use it.

    CP 160 gear has been top tier for a long time and is very unlikely to change. The entire world is scaled to CP 160 so to add a new tier really doesn't make sense.

    I agree it wouldn't make sense, but you never know, that's why I ask in case that said something on the topic in the past.
