Pricing in guild traders, seriously?

It’s free enterprise or an open market absent of regulation.

    It is absent of regulation.

But with so many people excluded from being able to Sell it is nowhere near an "open market" and THAT is why prices are so high.

Some may do that deliberately hoping you won't grab a calculator and sort it out. Others it could be what their addon is showing it's worth. The downside to the way the trader system works in this game is you can get a large difference between addon data depending on the trade guilds you are in. One person selling something for a crazy high price and someone buying it can skew your data bad.

This is very common on PS4 NA as well. The larger the amount of X that you buy the more each individual unit costs so instead of getting a bulk discount you pay a bulk premium. It's really stupid.

I'm sure others have already stated this.

When you buy a stack of items, you're paying for the convenience of not having to brows 45 different vendors buying a handful at a time. I'd much rather pay an extra 10-20% for a stack of 200 than go around and buy a bunch of smaller stacks all over the place.

Applying this logic, you may see someone post the same item multiple times for gradually increasing prices. Obviously the cheaper ones will sell first but eventually the more expensive ones will be bought by someone who doesn't feel like spending all day looking for a bargain.

The sooner you buy what you're shopping for, the sooner you can go back to doing whatever it is you like doing. If I spend an hour traveling to different vendors, I'm missing out on a potential 10k-50k I could easily be making doing something else.

It's not so stupid if you see reseller doing it - buying all the cheaper lower item packs - combine them to a big one and put some profit on top - and you get exactly what you see - a bigger pack with a higher price per item.

Usually we who sell those 8-packs, we know exactly what price level sells within reasonable time frame. Those selling one or two at a time form a cloud above and below but they don't settle the actual price.

This is a market. People can charge whatever they want. If it's too expensive in your opinion, don't buy it. If people think they can get away with charging higher prices, let them. They either find someone who pays the price or they don't.

Look at it the other way. Lot of people don't like farming or don't have time but still wanna gold out the gear. Why would I sell 8 wax for a cheaper price a piece? Afterall I save you time looking through traders, especially on a console without add ons.

There are different types of vendors - some want to get as much as they can for every item, some want to sell quickly and set their prices lower, regardless of what everyone else is doing, others will match the general price range and wait for the item to sell.

The first person may be greedy, the second person may be impatient and the third person is just happy to go with the flow. None of them are doing anything wrong as the buyer usually has the decision of how much they want to pay.

I'll finish with my standard response in any thread about traders and item pricing: For every item on sale, someone had to go and get it. If someone else can go get it, so can you. Anyone who doesn't like the prices being asked for things, can simply go and look for it themselves and save the gold.

I could buy that (no pun intended) if we spoke of something actually rare, but these materials ain't. You can easily find (for example) wax to gold out 5-7 body pieces in a couple of traders in the same spot, buying individual pieces. It's not like waxes or tempers are really rare, other than as drops from refining materials.

The few times I have sold like 8 waxes at the same time, for 60k, it has been bought so f****g fast it was like someone was tailing me, just waiting for me to post the deal. Someone probably thought they made onehelluva deal right there, without actually checking what the individual price would be split on 8. What I deem a reasonable price on such as stack, is obviously that rare. LOL

Worry ---- Wonder pretty much the same thing.

As to why people set hi prices, let me give you an example. I listed a mid tier green food recipe that normally sells for 350 gold at 3500 gold by mistake. I only found out about the mistake when someone bought it. I refunded 3k to the buyer, never got a thank you back.

So, people will.pay absurd prices for things.

Some people are willing to price stuff high and sit on the listing to see if it sells, some aren't and price at market or lower to move the product (and those often sell quickly sometimes leaving only the high price stuff showing).

I do too, when it comes to set pieces. But not "consumer goods" like these, which more or less everyone has at least a couple of, and have a slow but stead flow of on a daily or at least weekly basis. Of course I post more rare and sought for weapons, jewelry etc. to a quite high price, but that's comparing apples and pears really.
That's supply and demand for real. Right after a necklace or ring has been dropped at the Golden Vendor, nobody want's to pay, but a few months later you can usually get twice or more than the actual original price. This isn't applicable on improving materials, unless there's a nuclear war in Tamriel and Dreugh Wax becomes hard to find.

When I shop for stuff, I usually want a full stack - and will pay more per unit to get that in one transaction rather than buying multiple listings of a few of an item from multiple traders at lower prices.

People pay for convenience, and to save time.

I doubt many crafters who have run out of mats doing writs and need another 200 rubedo (or any other mat) will waste precious time saving a few gold here and there buying just a few in a different places - saving that time is worth paying a bit more per unit to buy a full stack.

It's really that simple. (I actually won't buy a lot of basic mats that I need unless they are a full stack, worth remembering if you are listing stuff. Gold tempers sell well in multiples of 8, but for refined ingots/cloth/wood, people tend to want a lot in one go)

Prices on Singleton items are more volatile because they’re snapped up more often. Sometimes it’s lower as people drop prices to move their stuff before someone else in the same shop. Sometimes it’s higher because someone buys up everything on a vendor.

Prices on multiple items (say 10 wax) dont fluctuate because they don’t sell as often. So you’ll sometimes get a deal, sometimes notsomuch.

This isn’t costco. It’s a game. Prices can’t be set on multiple items to mirror the in game average sale.

Here's the way I see it. Let's say I've got a shartload of stuff I want to improve, so I need 100 wax; let's say they're going for 3500 each.

I have three options generally available to me:

    a) go around hunting for bargains, but realize quickly that if I DO find a bargain, it's only going to be for a couple of wax. Continue hunting for bargains, taking a ton of time before I finally get to 100.

    b) Find someone selling a bulk stack. Maybe I hit the jackpot and they're selling the stack for a discount, but if they're selling at more than 3500 each, that's the tax I pay for getting all 100 wax I need in one shot, which is a real time-saver.

    c) Farm my own wax, which will take just as long if not longer than option a), although it will be significantly cheaper, is this option is free.

But that's the point. If I'm buying in bulk, I realize that the bulk-ness is saving me a ton of time because I don't have to go around to traders finding/buying wax 2, 3, 5 at a time. I can get a whole stack, right then and there. That's worth the extra cost to me; I can always get more gold in the game, but I can't get more time.

In any game I've played where the economy is essentially player run, the easiest way to make money was to take advantage of people's laziness. List the items they want, at a premium and they'll buy it anyway because its there and they don't want to shop around.

when you have a reliably profitable farming method, you unload your wares at prices they'll sell at.

when you don't have a reliably profitable farming method, you have to pinch pennies and spend time shopping around.

if your gold comes in faster than the time it takes to browse guild traders, then you'll spend a little more than a penny-pincher would so you can get back to the much more profitable farming.

it's just market stratification between the OP and the very next level above his that's been noticed. people who prioritize profit recognize that time is money, and when shopping for a "better" price comes at an opportunity cost of more rewardingly-spent time, the shopping will get skipped.

So that's the price wax would be if not for the bot apocalypse we face daily on PCEU

They differ greatly on console servers too. For example, all tempers are more expensive on PS4 EU than they are on the PS4 NA server. All relative as each server has its own self contained economy.

How do you "agree" to something, where there's no opinion given? I don't have any opinion on this, I ask why people do it - because I can't understand why.

Once again: Can someone explain why? I don't give a **** about what prices people set, I just wonder why they add cost to a stack of things, instead of keeping the same price or even giving a discount - which is a very usual thing to do, all around the world and history.

I simply don't buy the "it's easier, hurr durr - it's saving time!", what kind of frozen turtle hands must people have, to actually save time to click buy one time instead of eight? And paying more to do it? I'm kind of looking for some of these dudes to show up and say, "Hey yeah, it's because xxxxxx. That's why". :-D

I don't buy the "market mogul" strategy idea either. Yes I know some people try to "buy it all", and sell it themselves. But they obviously do a really *** job while trying to do so. There's always an abundance of these materials, it's never like you have to move around from guild trader spot to guild trader spot to find wax, as is the case with set pieces for example.

Also worth considering that economies of scale doesn't exist in ESO because production costs (I.e somebody's time) remains the same per item regardless of quantity produced.

Having more of a single item, such as 8 wax, could actually be making it more valuable for this reason.
