My suggestion to the crashing problem - keep the number of particle systems low - there is a slider for this in the video settings.

how exactly does this happen? anyone who did the new life festival had mudballs by the hundreds thrown at them at certain times of the day, and i dont recall anyone complaining that their game crashed because of it. surely you're exaggerating somewhat here

Multiple people throwing the mudballs and spamming fire attacks creates a lot of particles very quickly, especially when they can do it to multiple people in a small area.

No I'm with him on this. Theres no way this crashed your game unless your pc simply cannot handle the game properly. Its not a server thing. Theres no way people sit through events like the new life festival or the jester festival with ridiculous amounts of skills and emotes and comings and goings going on in tiny concentrated areas, with everyone being perfectly fine. But that you end up crashing because a handful of people throw AoE skills and emotes at you. One of the new life festival quests IS to throw mudballs at anyone in skywatch, you couldnt cross skywatch without getting hit multiple times. Imagine sitting still at the first celebrant area.

Indeed it has, with perfectly valid solutions. And yet you still throw that argument back to everyone telling you to do what everyone else does to trolls. Ignore them.

You do realize this is an mmorpg? Some people crash non stop no matter what they do and dont even have any solution for it.

You are victimizing yourself. Everyone in the game, everyone in the forum and everyone in this thread is perfectly entitled to throw mudballs at you. (the same you are to throw some back). This is well within the parameters of the game. Language, as many others have said, is NOT acceptable, BUT is solved at the click of a button (ignore/mute). Crashes are a problem on your end (pc). This thread is moot. You keep it alive because you want people to nod, agree with you, cry and wail with you at the evil and bad people of the world, and then bring them down with pitchforks and flames. Grow up.

Whenever I see people complain about this sort of thing I wonder how these trolls are able to consistently find you for years and why they have nothing better to do than bother you. I have played MMOs for quite a long time and the only times I see people stalking other players to troll them, is when they get a reaction out of them. Otherwise trolls stick around for a few minutes before moving on to a more entertaining victim. I feel like just going to a different place every once in a while would make it extremely difficult to find you and for the most part resolve the issue. Sure you'll still get the occasional troll but a stalker would have to search every zone thoroughly to find you.

Even if you report a player, I'd hardly expect any immediate action to be taken against them and I don't think it's reasonable to expect this. I say this because it seems to me like your best option would still be to just move somewhere else.

I don't RP but when I'm doing something in a PvE zone and another player comes and disrupts my game play. As soon as it becomes apparent that they're going to be around for a while I just go somewhere else. Nothing else will resolve the issue faster, allowing me to resume my fun time.

You've made it clear that this isn't the solution you want to hear but this is your best solution.

The problem is that it's not a solution. Cutting me out of the public rp community literally just means that I've had a section of the game taken away by a homophobic prick, who repeatedly violates the ToS and gets away with it. Going elsewhere literally does nothing but encourage him to move around or harass other people.

I do not condone their behavior but at the same time I don't think that bans should be handed out liberally. Players report other players all the time, every day for legitimate reasons and not so legitimate reasons. From what you've described, they're behavior is unacceptable but the mods need to sift through all the garbage to verify what reports are legit and which are not. Maybe they haven't given your reports proper attention or maybe they've deemed the behavior not ban worthy; I don't' know.

Since they're able to continue getting away with it, you can either whine about it (for years apparently) or adapt and overcome, aka get your RP friends to go RP somewhere else. If your pride will not allow you to change your behavior to circumvent this issue, then you're at an impasse. Otherwise saying "hey RP friends, you mind taking this elsewhere?" doesn't seem like it would be that big of a deal. If they are being as disruptive as you've described, then I'm sure the other people you're RPing with don't' want to be around them either.

In the meantime, while you're deciding how to handle this, have all your RP friends who are present during the harassment, report the player/s as well. It takes time but I've seen cases of players getting banned for similar behavior.

Thing is... There is no rule against roleplaying an [snip].
If you want to report them for harassment you need to separate out the annoying stuff that's within the rules for conduct.

Mementos are meant to be used & unfortunately this means they get to crash you out or make your world a flip-book.
like when then they are going crazy with effects & mementos in the Bank & we don't report them for harassment... often we join in the madness for a minute and then run away!
    >:)

You have two things to do here and they both SUCK!
    :/
    1. Document the right things to report, and report only those things.
(as others have said, if they are disrupting public RP events get everyone participating to report that)

    2. Group with the people you are having a RP scene with & move to another instance.
(& possibly horrible option 3 here, where if they actually follow you to the next shard you can document that too)

How much annoying can you tolerate to get rid of them /vs/ find some other fun RP to do.
    Good Luck!

I have been where you are bro. Leave Riften, don't go back. I had the same people spread rumors, harass, lie, troll, call me a [snip] (OOC in /say in the middle of Riften) for a solid 3-4 months. I reported them over and over and over and I think maybe once they actually got a 3 day ban only to come back and continue. ZOS won't do anything about them, I reported them at least 50 times. I've been called every name in the book, trolled by not only them but their little lackeys too, insulted about personal accomplishments in my real life you name it. ZOS won't do anything, they are still trolls and they still do it to anyone and everyone with no fear of being banned. Ignoring them doesn't do anything, they get someone else to do it who just thinks its funny to get any kind of reaction out of you. They are just sick people who get off on it, and ZOS loves them because they are subscribers. That's why they won't do anything because its about money, not you.

I finally just left Riften. It's a cesspool of trolls and I hope it burns to the ground and then rots.

Hey here's a fun question for the mods, why is it that the people I've been reporting for years [who I'll add have not only called me a *** in whispers, but actively go out of their way to find me when I'm roleplaying and spam fire abilities and mudballs at me]] still have their accounts? What is the report function even there for if nothing is ever done about it? I've provided screenshots and video of everything and NOTHING is done by you people.

The forum moderators do not handle in game reports as you suggest. It is probably a full time job policing us.

Further, I can only wonder how they can find you. Tamriel is such a large place. Unless you return to the same place, use zone chat to RP or /say in a very populated area they would have no idea where you are. Only if they were in the same guild as you or on your friends list could they even find the zone you are in. Do not recall a search for player in the game.

I assume you do not reply to them in zone if they call you a name. It is always best to never reply to trolls or one can expect a friend for life, or some time maybe shorter than life.

I am not suggesting Zos should not do something about harassers but I cannot fathom how they find you so easily.

BTW, experienced RP players find out of the way places and do not use zone and probably mostly use group chat to talk. RP in popular areas generally will attract attention and for certain it will bring about distractions. Especially if they do use public chat channels.

I agree with everything said by idk, but there's also this part that I want to underline. Lets be real. Like @Ackwalan said, If they've been doing this for years as claimed I have a hard time believing you've simply sat on your hands while they've done so. I'm pretty chill on a game but in a different environment I'd have a harder time just taking it myself.

The short of it being, if you're retaliating with equal force it probably isn't going to gain you much sympathy to say "they're harassing better!". If I'm wrong there I suppose that's all moot, but just another explanation while grasping at straws here.

On another note entirely, I would not put my friends and rp partners through this scenario. It isn't fair for them to have to experience harassment on my behalf or have their roleplay experience interrupted. I don't rp in MMOs, but that all on its own would have motivated me instantly to pick another locale for their sake. Heck, I'd rather imagine a crowd than see one anyway. While improvising with the scenery is fun and all, there are advantages to controlling your own environment too. Good rping can helped by environment but ultimately can be done on less.

There are plenty of guilds that arrange without ruining the social aspect of rping and nothing's stopping you from picking up an interested party and traveling elsewhere. If you're willing to be flexible and make a bit of effort there's very little requirement in a wide world to keep you in one area.

OP you seem so enraged by this that eventhough you make a post and people respond with respectfull and kind advice you seem determined to twist it into words of malcontent towards you and you situation. Its food for the trolls my dude and if your victimized behaviour here is any indication its tough waters for you in the sea of douchbags that can be MMORPG. I hope it works out and they stop giving you a hard time. Meanwile think about slightly ajusting your attitude towards wellmeaning words of advice

Sympathies for OP, sounds like what's been happening to you is pretty disgusting. Harassment on the forums wouldn't be tolerated, and it shouldn't be in-game either.

I'd suggest recruiting RP bodyguards to mudball the immature assailants back, but then you'd lose the high-ground. I hope you get some support, and see some positive results.

One last suggestion, if want a technical fix in the meantime:
    • If you're in your RP group and your griefer is on site, have another individual port in via wayshrine to the same zone. Wayshrining is the key here, do not use travel to player.
    • After they are in zone, send them a group invite. Odds are better than not they'll get the popup saying "You are in a different instance of ________ Would you like to travel to group leader?"
    • Have them choose 'No.'
    • Once they show in group, have your entire group travel to that player, and you will now be in a different instance than your griefer(s).

You only have to find one new instance. They'll have to go through several for even the chance to find the same one as you and your group.

The more populated the zone, the more likely you are to land in a different instance.

Forming a guild to harass role players?

If it's the guys I think it is (which is very likely) They didn't. They formed the guild for PvP over a year ago. A couple of them ran across some RPers in Riften, and brought their Cyrodillic outlook into the tavern. They keep doing it because they think that it's ****ing hilarious. Crashes included.

They'll stomp around Cyrodiil in a premade, then come off of that and relax by hitting Riften and making a mess in The Withered Tree.

This actually works - I have done something like this a couple of times to get away from overcrowded instances.
