An open letter to the combat design team at ZOS: I'm sorry.
I think it's a little presumptuous to believe that anything you've said here on the forums will reach the development team let alone insult them! No one here is that important, I'm afraid.
Your point isn't wrong. Though I believe if it does not cost you anything, and your action can lead into better thing, why not do it? Everyone always says "Someone will do it instead, I don't have to do it myself". Well I just got tired of waiting
I’m not sure what you wrote, lol, but if you got spanked for it don’t feel too bad. The moderators enjoy employing a power trip on occasion. Not that I begrudge them for keeping the forums clean...they get a little cray cray from time to time. I once referenced their design team using something that is quite legal where I live, and I got a lecture that sounded a little too much like Nancy Reagan for my taste. I objected to the snippy email based on the fact that you can’t exactly say I was suggesting that people are breaking laws when no such law exists here, but whatever.
As for the state of ESO...I’m sure your frustrations are shared by many. Probably a lot are shared by the dev team...I’ve worked on games (not this one) and the employees often want to do things that they can’t owing to budget or technology. And perhaps some of the decisions we see as stupid designer decisions are actually middle managers or accountants telling the developers they have to stick with something that is unpopular or inefficient.
On the other hand, Eric Wrobel has been on ESO Live many times, and while I think he loves the game and works hard at making it the best it can be, I think he has a somewhat limited view on combat mechanics and can make decisions that ar erroneous at conception, he doesn’t seriously test them on pts, then pushes them live despite the obvious problems with them. I mean...how many sets and abilities roll with everyone in the world saying they’re OP? The PTS was full of comments saying Eye of the Storm was OP when they rolled weapon ultimates. We all looked at the ~35k damage all other ultimates push out then saw this AOE that can cause ~300k+ on one proc and said EotS was OP. Then it rolled as-is, and guess what? It’s #&@*$ing OP...and the age of bombing was born. Now we have patch notes saying “we feel that for some reason there’s not enough diversity in ultimate use.” Says the world...duh.
Anyway, I’m sure your frustrations were well-founded, you just framed them in a way that allowed a moderator to have a little power trip and come down hard on you.
