Why do you think we don't have jewelcrafting?

EDIT: I feel delighted that my post received so many thoughtful and enthusiastic replies. That being said, when I posted this poll, the question I have in mind is "why should ZOS decide not to include jewelcrafting at launch time" . Many have given very informed explanation about why ZOS failed to introduce jewelcrafting after launch (balance sort of things), but I will appreciate more if you would share you opion about why ZOS didn't introduce it at the beginning.

Why do you think we don't have jewelcrafting? 154 votes

ZOS want people to participate in PVE content, so they make it with intention that no one can equip two 5/5 crafting sets.

Because it will be a major task for ZOS to re-balance so many sets if jewel-crafting becomes a thing. If people think that there´s broken/OP combinations of gear at the moment, it´s nothing compared to how it will be if jewel-crafting becomes a thing.

Because if they already implemented everything in the game that we wanted what would we have to look forward to? Simply put, they need to save some of these things for future updates otherwise the game would lose longevity.

It would make is easier IMO to farm gear if you did not have to farm ring/amulet because you are going to use a crafted set. I do not think that reason alone would be why we do not have it.

Does it make crafted sets to flexible, therefore increasing their power? Does it give crafters a big advantage over new players?

I believe at some point there will be jewelry crafting. Maybe someone else can come up with a thought that would prevent it, but I cannot think of one at this moment.

It was discussed by Paul Sage in early beta, but they dropped it before it went anywhere. I guess crafted sets were already OP enough at launch, that they wanted to avoid creating too many OP combinations.

Now, it wouldn't be too bad, as there are so many good sets, both crafted and dropped. But they have bigger problems to deal with to just introduce more systems into the game.

I think it's an economy and balance issue.

In regards to crafted sets there isn't much of an issue, but with world drops it would become insanely easy to get purple/gold gear. Green jewellery drops so easy and there are few sets which have multiple traits.

Also by adding a crafting system with upgrades it devalues the golden vendor and veteran trials, one being a large gold sink and the other being a big carrot in playing veteran content.

If they ever introduce jewlrycrafting there probably will and have to be some restrictions.

Purple max quality (only gold jewelry from vetTrials and the Golden).
Not able to upgrade dropped sets - if so purple max quality.
    Upgrading makes it bound regardless
Entirely new sets for jewelry - not include them with the existing ones.
Balancing the ability to wear 2 full crafted sets

Sure it would be nice to craft golden Julianos bling but I think it will remove some of the last incentives to farm for stuff.

    1. Crafted jewelry would have to surpass dropped jewelry or people would not use it
    2. Crafted jewelry changes the importance of dolmen grinds and other jewelry outlets
    3. Crafted jewelry would make jewelry much more accessible, causing a balance problem
    4. They seem reluctant to add new crafting systems to the game, which may be due to a desire to reduce crafting complexity and new players being potentially overwhelmed.
    5. All new systems need to be monetized and jewelry crafting may not integrate with the Crown Store in a manner that they find acceptable.

Think its more of 1) and 2), can not think of any combination of two crafted sets who will be OP.
Improving is unlikely because of 1)

Why we can not change hair color is another 2) indicator, lots of quality of life stuff who are missing.

If you add a new crafting system, then you have to add everything to support it. You have to look at it from a business point of view. What are the benefits of jewelry crafting?

    * How many new players is this going to potentially attract?
    * How many current players is this going to retain?

    Then the cons:
    * How long would it take to develop the system?
    * How long would it take to code it into the existing game?
    * How much time do you expect to spend fixing bugs, balancing, etc?
    * Etc.

You then weigh the benefits to the cons and whichever is greater is what happens. In the case of jewelry crafting, it would add little to the revenue stream but cost quite a bit to implement and maintain. So it doesnt get put in.

The only way your probably going to see jewelry crafting happen is:

    1) if the devs decide to do it as a side project when they arent busy working on another project.
    2) if enough players complain that its not in game and they have to dedicate resources to it.

But in the case of number 2, they will have to pull resources from somewhere else. So that DLC pack might not be as good as it was planned on being. They might of gave up a dungeon or even a raid, to focus on developing jewelry crafting. Or it may be the main feature of an update rather than actual new content/zones.

There is always a trade off. So you have to think about " how important is jewelry crafting to me?" To me its not that important and i rather them focus on meaningful things to do rather than the ability to craft shiny objects.

I'd be okay with that IF they hadn't introduced weapons for every dropped sets.

    I'd have preferred it like:

    Weapons and Armor - Crafting

Armor and Jewelry - Dropped dungeons and delves

Jewelry and Weapons - Dropped Trials

If we're going to allow people to slot 2 dropped sets that they can farm in PVE world zones, I see no reason why 2 crafted sets shouldn't be allowed as well.

I agree. I dont think it has anything to do with lack of budget or importance of PvE or balance etc. They have plenty of money and likely frown upon dolmen grinding, IMO.

As far as I can remember there was some version of jewelcrafting in the early Beta and they took it out because it was extremely buggy. So as to why we don't have it; it's probably on 'the list' and possibly even being worked on, but it's in nowhere near a stage where they're ready to let us have a taste.

ZOS loves the grind and think we do to. It took me a whole year of running vDC to finally get that purple netches necklace. That's a lot of play time that ZOS believes I wouldn't have otherwise logged in for if I could have made Julianos jewelry. Truth is I still would have spent the same amount of time online, I just would have spent it doing things I actually liked to do.

The system would require overhauling all the jewelry in the game. As of now, we have six tiers based on trait stones - Garnet, Amethyst, Turquoise, Emerald, Ruby, Diamond. Those would have to be converted to crafting tiers. As you can reasonably have cloth, leather, or metal jewelry, it would be a substantial revision, both for crafting and for loot tables.

There would probably be an internal debate as whether to give jewelry a visible style and placement on your gear. Is jewelry a motif based system or would it have its own plans? Should you be able to completely deconstruct jewelry or just parts of it? If it's parts, do you craft a base piece of jewelry and then craft each additional modifier separately? Would that require a finishing agent to assemble them?

Would jewelry be affected by armor weight passives? Would jewelry have armor traits? Would they each be a 1/3 of a value so that three piece give you 100% of a trait? Could you transmute jewelry? How willing are people to grind more dungeons to get three pieces of jewelry in their preferred weight and trait?

Asking these questions, it become apparent that it's not just an extension of a system. It borrows from what we already have while still requiring its own interface. And while it's definitely complex enough to merit inclusion in a Chapter, all the work required to update the existing system to the point where jewelrycrafting could be implemented may outweigh the actual benefit of the system. That's the question it all leads back to:

Is the system we're creating significantly better than the one we already have?

Rich alluded to this on one ESO live, saying where are we going to get the raw matierials from? Personally, I think this issue is rather de minimus, the crafting sets are not really that good to begin with compared to the farmed sets.
