Most, if not all of the achievements in the game currently are character specific and should stay that way.

I guess i need to be clear, this is how i would like it to work.

While you can see what you have already done on other characters, you would still need to complete them on others as well. But anything you do achieve on one character, the rewards should be available to all characters.

Eh. Titles should remain character specific.

I understand your position but doing that punishes people that want to start new characters, it gets quite discouraging to sink so many hours in to one character for a specific title, and if i get bored with that character and want to play a new one, i'd have to sink that many hours again.

That would cause burn out like crazy.

    No. It's just the opposite.
People who start new characters want to start the game FRESH, with an empty map, no achievements and a sense of discovery.
Having account-wide achievements would discourage many people from creating alts because there would be no feeling nor measurement of progression.

On the other hand, people who just want to try a new class just need to grind to 50, gather 150ish skill points and here they are. It's quick nowadays. Achievements are useless when it comes to character efficiency.

Just ignore the achievements on the alts. The dyes, furniture, and CP are account-wide. All you won’t have is the titles.

I play the alts for different playstyles, not for completionism. My main does the hard work. The alts just freeload.
What if you dont have Alts, but more than one Main?
What if without the Achievements your brain starts to itch.

Then you do the achievements. If they are really your main, you should have no trouble playing them enough to get the achievements you want.

If you don’t want to earn the achievements, then it’s just an alt.

This isn't an absolute fact, it's a preferance. I'd love having all my achivements unlocked when I start a new chatacter. To not have to find every wayshrine all over again. To not have to collect all those skyshards again and to not have to feed my horse for 180 days. But that's just me. Some like to do things from the scratch, and one way of wanting to play the game isn't better than the other.

The best solution for this would be to have it optional. That way those who want can go and explore all over again, without forcing those who don't want to.

The OP was strictly referring to achievements (not wayshrines, skyshards, lorebooks, skillpoints, motifs, horse training, etc.. ).
For achievements, the "option" is already there : JUST IGNORE THEM and don't do them. Problem solved.

The rest is a whole different story, with different aspects on each point. Horse training, for instance, will never be account-wide, because ZOS will want to sell crown store lessons.
The rest... without considering all the details, I doubt ZOS will ever make those account wide, even optionally, because after all, they want us to spend time ingame. What leads players to stay in the game, buy crown store stuff and DLCs are the social interactions in the game, therefore they need to to actually play the game. ZOS will balance every decision of this kind in terms of hours played vs. boredom. And God knows we MMO players are extremely resistant to boredom. And we complain about chores ingame but maybe we would quit quicker without those chores.

I don't understand why people would want account wide achievements, but I do understand that endgame players would like to have a new, efficient and end-game ready new character quicker than it is now. Although I'm not sure it would be a good thing overall.

While the wayshrine thing sounds interesting, not sure i could get behind the skyshards that would cause unfair advantage against new players.

Am i the only one that thinks this is a good quality of life change or not?

You don't *have* to do all achievements all over again. Achievements get you nothing apart from titles.
Else you get dyes (account wide), right to buy furniture (which you can transfer or use on whatever character), and skins (account wide).
There's strictly no point in doing all achievements on all characters - unless you suffer from OCD.

Yep. I have 1 character I focus on for achievements. No need to do them on my alts.

How does wanting to have achivments account wide not make sense? From what I've seen the two different takes on this is usually "my character did it" for people who don't want account wide stuff and "I did it" for people who do. Both things make sense, and saying that one doesn't don't really make any sense.

Ignoring them is what I currently do, but that doesn't solve the problem in any way. I brought up the other things as they are similar and are often brought up alongside with achievements, but yes you're right. They aren't quite part of this discussion. I guess this would vary a bit from player to player, but for me at least things like lorebooks and skyshards don't really extent my playtime after the first time I do them. I'll collect a lorebook if I see it, but I won't actively go hunt for them. They don't make me play more but they do lessen my enjoyment.

I don't understand why people wouldn't want account wide achievements. In the end it's still just a matter of preferance, and tbh I can't see why anyone woud be against an optional system.

    Achievements/titles.

This brings up a good point, titles should be account wide as well. Whether or not I earned it on that character shouldn't matter. I earned it so it should be able to wear it on any character, it recognizes status and dedication.

No you and your character earned it. If your character hadn't been created the way it was you might not have reached your goal on that achievement. I am not going to complete vet malstrom arena on my healer so why should I get to pretend I have?

For good or bad one of the main reasons achievements are not account wide is because MMOs survive by content being repeated. Locking achievements to characters means more people repeating more content and that is good for the game.

Lol this is popcorn time. Well the rolepalyers and ultra casuals not wanting account wide achievements is hilarious. I mean there is nothing stopping a new toon from doing anything just because the achievement is already there. Its not like you are doing it for the first time if you have earned it on another toon. He is an idea, you can roleplay that you don't have said achievements.

Titles would be the primary problem with accountwide achievements. If that can be decoupled from achievements it could make the idea work.

Or you could roll play that you do have it.

That aside I wouldn't mind some account wide achievements if titles were not included. There should be a way though to toggle the option on and off. I personally want each of my characters to earn their achievements not live in the glory of a character that came before them. Also achievement shouldn't be associated with accomplishment. Getting all the skyshards on one character shouldn't mean your next character comes into the game with all the skyshards. You can look on your character and see that at least one character has reached that achievement so people can try and complete all the achievements across their account if they wish. If they want the benefits they gotta go out and earn them.

You're not the only one to think that way, but there are plenty who take a different view.

I also like to play multiple characters, and would hate it if the whole point of leveling them through the game was ruined by them automatically being credited with achievements they hadn't earned. For me, the whole point of having multiple characters is in order to play the game fully with each and every one of them, although that can also mean doing say the Thieves Guild achievements with my dark elf assassin nightblade but not with my holy paladin templar.

The game is already pretty well balanced between the different approaches. Plenty of the achievements are character-specific, while dye unlocks, bank slots, collectibles and champion points are shared across the account. That seems a reasonable balance to me, and I don't see a need to shift the balance one way or the other.

MMORPG... that's what ESO is... RPG stand for Role Playing Game, right ? That means, we have the opportunity to make different characters with different backgrounds. Not everything is combat related. Many of us want to have one character that is "bad", another one that is "good", another one that respects the law, another one kills and steals, another one that doesn't, one who likes daedras and one that loathes them... etc...
I don't want my lawful character to actually *be* a silencer, nor to be able to wear that title. He's not accountable for what my other characters have done.
    See the point ?
Alt characters are NOT meant to be copies of my main with a different skin and abilities.
