With the new outfit system coming, will you start buying crown store exclusive motifs?

It's obvious that motifs will be more sought-after with the coming patch, as the outfit system only recognizes the styles that you have learned. Currently, if you want items in the Grim Harlequin or Stalhrim Frostcaster style, you would go to your local master crafter and ask nicely/pay. But since a lot of item sets aren't craftable and these styles still look wonderful, will you buy them just for the Outfit system?

Note that a Tsaesci Akaviri motif is on the way and so far looking to be a crown store exclusive.

I have no intention of buying the harlequin or frostcaster motifs. Frostcaster will be more irrelevant than ever before now that we have weapon dyeing, and harlequin has always been ugly.

Now, as for NEW motifs, it's up to how they look.

I bought the two crown store motifs. I'm a bit concerned, I am going to be upset if I have to then pay gold to use them. Also I have the crown store mimic stones that are now kind of meaningless. I'm still glad I have them, and excited for the new outfit system but I feel they should be treated the way the imperial/morag tong conversion is, free to use.

I bought stalhrim in preparation for this update. I am glad that the outfit system doesn't use style material stones because crown exclusive motifs would get screwed.

Luckily for you, the crown store motif transmogs are very cheap. 750g per piece right now. The great house motifs for example are 2k the piece.

There's no "It depends" option, ergo no vote from me.

It depends on whether I really like enough of the parts of the motif -and- on whether I've built up enough crowns from my Plus sub -and- on whether there's nothing else I can spend the crowns on I want more.

So I might. Not will, not won't (though admittedly more likely won't).

I'm eso+ so I get 1500 crowns a month. I also converted a lot of the free crate stuff to gems.
Mounts is what I'm currently collecting when I get enough to buy them.
After that it will be motifs for my crafter only because I'm a collector and would like to have them all eventually.

I didn't vote because none of the answers apply to me.

It depends. I'm not a fan of that preview image and I'm meh about Akaviri, but if it's a good value and I like the other parts of the motif I might get it.

I bought Grim Harlequin its first year because I liked the motif and it had a good amount of style gems; I love Frostcaster but it only included 5 gems - not even enough for a full outfit - so I didn't buy it. Buoyant Arminger was effectively crate-only that season, but I didn't have any luck with my free crates.

ETA: I don't have a problem with crown-exclusive motifs, obviously, and less so with the outfit system. My only concern is that ZOS might eventually make the crown motifs count toward our writ chance; they'd promised that as new motifs were added with dlc our chance of gear writs would only increase, not decrease, and look how that turned out. :/

I don't like Grim Harlequin or Frostcaster because I think they are ugly and out of place. If that changes with future crown store motifs I might consider buying them.

That sounds to me like you would be the "I have bought them already" category, even though you haven't yet, but you would have had already if you were done with horses at the time they were in store..

I'm not opposed to buying crown store motifs - but I'd have to like the motif enough to feel the price was worth it, and so far that hasn't happened. I wouldn't rule it out and the outfit system does make them more useful, but at this point it seems unlikely they're going to release a motif I like at a price I consider reasonable.

Also there is a work-around for the outfit system: Make an outfit where that slot is left empty and then buy a price with the motif you want from a crafter. Of course the downside is you then need to use it for your stats too. So for example if you want all light armour but want it too look like heavy armour you need to actually put heavy pieces in those slots. But it's better than nothing.

It is better than nothing, just not a solution for everyone. When I get my MA 2h-sword, I want it to look like a Stalhrim sword, which I can't because I don't own the motif, but for just one weapon it is not worth it.

    @ArchMikem

So would you buy a hypothetical good-looking motif if it was a crown store exclusive simply to be able to transmog your gear or would you buy it regardless of the outfit system existing or would you not buy it?

I may buy them if I like them enough, if I think the price is fair, and if there is nothing better to do with my crowns.

Frostcaster I'll pass. I don't like how it looks altogether. Harlequin has some good pieces, but I'm not going to pay an absurd amount of crowns only to unlock the motif on a couple of gear slots.

Tsaesci, depends. It will probably be absurdly overpriced as well, and since I already have Akaviri I don't think it justifies the cost. Unless it looks completely different which I don't think it does. So I will likely give it a miss too.

That is light armor yes? Tbh I saw the datamined image and nothing else. It looks good. Good enough to buy? Depends on the price. I don't see it fitting any of my characters at the moment though.

    So price will tell.

@Shawn_PT Supposedly that is the light armor, because the war maiden set came in that style on PTS before it was changed.

I would consider it if the style mats could be obtained through normal play (unlike frostcaster etc). I can afford stacks of stalhrim and grinstone but it seems like a cheap way to treat customers who already paid for the motif.
