They dont even have to be a new skill tree. Just an alternative to Bows but with the same stats.

The silver bolts in the fighter skills use a hand cross bow, so the animation is there.

    Can we get crossbows?
    I knoooowwww, right? ;)
Been saying this for a while now...
Crossbows - could be added as alternate weapon to the Bow skill line as is (Maybe rename that one a bit… "Marksmanship", anyone?) Possibly with some tweaks… like perhaps increased armor penetration compared to bows, but a "reload time" after each shot? Possibly also changing the bows poison effects to disease for a bit difference in flavor…
    ...and more besides: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/371862/additional-weapon-skill-ideas-mk-ii ;)

crossbows, polearms.. Im all in for more diversity. balance is non existant anyways.
Would be cool to have crossbows as slow but bursty weapons, so more of a main bar weapon..

Why? 2H skill line gives people the choice between axe, sword and mace, so why should ranged stamina characters be limited to only bows when it would be so easy to add a few more weapon choices to that skill line as well?

Not to go off on a tangent, but what about the spear line some people keep asking for? Should that be thrown in the mix as well?
...which is why I keep linking to my "collected thoughts" on the matter of new weapon options ;)
Since long polearms and short offhand jevelins -definitely- should become part of our characters arsenal, I say! I mean, the latter at least is in use by many NPCs, and I feel pretty envious about this...

Although, most people only use bow for Volley. So, it might run into balance problems. Or be no different.

I am surprised that they were not included in the apostle motif. I would have thought that all of those engineers would have crafted a Crossbow instead

I dislike talk about "new classes", tho only for the reason that I like some of the old hands at ESO already have fourteen characters, and don't really want to play through all the content for the fifteenth time just to enjoy new classyness... thus I think up ideas how to get "new fun" for -everyone- no matter if they are just starting their first character or have been playing a bunch of them since launch... like turning new classyness into a "prestige class" like system that can be refitted to every character: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/369966/class-morph-idea-mk-ii or the aforementioned additional weapon skill options, or more guild fun: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/387560/additional-guild-ideas-mk-ii ;)
(and yes, I would so looove to see them pick up on all of the above, it would make ESO so much greater for everyone!)

crossbows would mess with the loot table...crossbow skins would require new animations...another option would be a dawnguard dlc with a crossbow themed skill line.

Either way, i loved xbows in Skyrim and would love to see them in ESO

you dont want a new class because you dont want to play through the content again...you realize this is such a weird statement on so many levels

    1. no one forces you to do anything
    2. there are all kinds of different content
    3. you can level a character fast through different means than story content if need be and arent locked out of anything
    4. a new class most likely means a major new content uupdate such as morrowind to play through

    so....wut??

balance isnt really relevant for pve all that much and could be more easily achieved if they started to seperate pve and pvp effects more...there is simply no reason to balance pve and pvp at the same time if you dont have open world pvp

Shows what you know. Hint - its the same as Jon Snow! ;)

Yeah, one could get to level 50 with no issues. Not gonna do much for the skill point front though. Or the mages guild storyline. And depending on where you go grind (not that I ever would do that, because I am not brain-damaged enough to enjoy sich mindkillingly boring efforts), undaunted or fighetrs guild as well. Then there is legerdemain, soul magic, TG and DB where applicable for the character backstory...

But the main point is - I already did it all those other times. Sure, some people may see characters as meaningless, and the storyline as completely optional on their way to PvP, but us roleplayers kinda don't. And yes, I know those others consider us wierd. We usually have heard them tell us this over and over, all our lives. Usually before they do something bullying to us I guess.

Thus I will keep supporting ideas that allow refitting classes and whatnot to existing characters, and oppose those who merely want to see more classes added so only those who start a new character can enjoy the new content (and yes, I was not at all happy about the Warden, and hope they may avoid such dissapointing decisions in the future - or at least balance them by giving us some class change token if they really insist on adding classes every so often. Which they have said they don't intend to do. The class change token, that is).
And I would think most of the old hands who also played a load of different builds so far might agree with me, while most of the newcomers who are barely at their first handful may not care much either way...

    Cool idea +1 to that.

    ...are Bretons then mongrels,or paragons?
    The answer,of course,is both(though if you call a Breton
a mongrel,he is liable to feed you an inch or two of steel).
The passionate race of Bretons embodies the strengths
of both men and mer-as well as there flaws.

I like the prestige class idea a lot, and wow you really put a lot of work into that idea!

As an alternative to your idea I think a second morph to all normal skills would also be a good route and a lot more simple to implement. In this case your "prestige" class would simply offer you new morphs for your existing abilities instead of ZoS creating 3 all new skill lines for each class. I still like your idea more but it would take a long time to develop.

You could have this available for existing weapons. If you want to unlock them for 2-handed, for example, maybe there could be a quest line where you have to help a group of weapon masters for that weapon style so they agree to train you.

    Just food for thought.

Have Crossbows be its own skill line focusing on being a viable ranged dps for stamina (vs the current set up for bows which in a pve setting, sadly is for a support set up with dual wield or in pvp, is hated beyond no measure). This or rework some bow skills and passives to allow ranged stam dps to be in league with the meta.

    What about adding these?

Crossbow - slower to fire, same dmg as bow but ignores targets physical resistance
Longbow - slightly slower than bow but has higher distance
Javelin - higher dmg, lower distance, can be used with a shield

What I want for Bow the most is to make the quiver a slot of gear you change to influence the bow, like you can use different elemental staffs. If you equip a quiver of Poison arrows, for example, all the Bow skills deal Poison damage. If you equip a Diseased Quiver, they do Disease Damage. Normal arrows would deal Physical Damage with Bleed Damage for DoTs. The arrows can still be limitless. The quiver doesn't even need to take up an extra gear slot or add to any set to avoid balance issues compared to staffs.
