I'll say it before some condescending person comes in here and says it:
"You learned a valuable lesson today. Always stow your pets when going into town."
Control your pets.
i challenge you to do it. if you can reliably do it while out in a world, forget while at the crafting station, I will personaly gift you a rosin. (assuming you are on PC NA) pet control in this game is near nonexistent and is limited to "attack this thing, stop attacking this thing" its not a true passive either, it gets immediately canceled out by a heavy attack... or when pet is hit by an offensive ability.
what happens to OP illustrates just how awful pet management is in this game and that it BADLY needs fixing.

Pay up. I never had a pet attack anything I didn't want them to attack. It's simple, I cancel them when they are not needed.

make me a video where you can avoid getting a bounty where you pet gets caught in an AoE from a guard. replicate the OP's situation. go on. I'll wait.
dismissing pet before going into town is a BAINDAID. NOT A SOLUTION TO AWFUL PET CONTROL IN THIS GAME.

Don't need a video. Cancel the pet when it's not needed, is 100% reliable way to avoid it from attacking a guard. Pay up.
Not laughing at OP, but it was funny.
Seriously though. pets are an issue. Try doing a quest where you slot a disguise to blend in and merely have to avoid the sentry types. Even if the sentry does not notice you the pet will go fight it. Granted, you can let your pet do the fighting and kill the sentry without losing your disguise, but it should not happen to begin with.

nope, that was not the term of the deal. dismissing your pet =/= controlling your pet. SHOW me how you can genuinely control this pet in this game. go on. and you know why I'm making this distinction? because pet control is horrible NOT just in cities. its horrible EVERYWHERE. it makes my sorc a lot less pleasant to heal on for example, becasue die to lack of proper commands, matriarch keeps lagging back, keeps attacking crap I do not need her to attack and is a general constantly dying nuisance, BECAUSE I CANNOT PUT HER ON PASSIVE.
dismissing a pet that is a cardinal part of the build is NOT a solution. its NOT pet control.
also thisNot laughing at OP, but it was funny.

oh for the love of god. show me how i can control my pet while I AM in combat, RELIABLE so that it doesn't drop passive every time I god forbid heavy attack to recharge my magika while healing, so that it doesn't just randomly decide to attack some semi hidden spider way on a side of the room , scattering mobs, getting killed, etc, where i can RELIABLY tell it to GET THE HELL OUT OF THE RED CRAP ON THE GROUND instead of dying in it. show me keybinds beyond the obscure basic "stop attacking this thing (which doesn't even stick becasue they switch RIGHT back to attacking the moment you use offensive abilities), and attack this one thing which also doesn't properly stick. show me where I can ACTUALLY CONTROL MY PET WHILE ITS PRESENT.
I did NOT ask a trick question here, STOP trying to shove your trick answers as if they are actual answers. they, are. NOT.
