Planar Inhibitor

So, I been stuck on the White Gold Tower boss.. I can complete MoL and SO and many other trials.. but can't figure this boss out. I can smacked with that Heat Stroke. Is Heat Stroke avoidable in anyway? Or is it a non-mitgatable dmg placed on players that we just have to spread evenly? Thoughts?

The Planar Inhibitor can't be taunted. Instead it focuses on the player that last grabbed the pinion in the middle (or started the fight). The player that did this then gets Heat Stroke - a shieldable, but not blockable (I think) damage over time effect that gets stronger the longer it is applied. Before the damage gets too high, a different player has to grab the pinion on the middle to tank the Inhibitor next. Even though people are regularily suggesting to "grab the pinion whenever possible" this is not all there is to it. A player grabbing the pinion too often in a short amount of time will not have the buff reset but instead it will continue where it left off (meaning very high damage that often can't be healed through until the pinion is available again). Two players switching aggro is good but risky when the DPS is not that high. Three players taking turns are ideal.

During the blue phase, the person targeted by the Inhibitor gets slower and slower until he/she can't move anymore through normal means. Sorcerers can still use streak but they can't rotate their camera (in third person) to change direction. If the boss gets too close to you during the blue phase, you die, regardless what your health, resistances and shields are. It is an instant kill. Of course, this can be avoided by another player grabbing the pinion before the boss can reach the player.

An alternative strategy for advanced players is to burst it down and ignore the mechanics. If the DPS is not high enough this strategy is a guaranteed failure.

Hope that gave you some insight.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

    When I tank this fight...
    1. Aggro is attached to the pinion. If you have the pinion, you have aggro. If you don't have the pinion, you don't. If you grab the pinion, there's also the message "The Planar Inhibitor is fixated on you."
    2. The tank is dependent on someone else to grab the pinion for at least part of the fight unless the DPS is so spectacular the boss never gets to blue phase. This almost never happens.

Generally I can hold the pinion all through the orange phase (the flame around the Inhibitor is orange). That means I've got aggro, the Heat stroke DOT is on me, but I'm also holding the boss still for the DPS and the healer can/should keep me healed through the DOT along with me using self-heals.

Then the Inhibitor goes to blue phase (the flame around the inhibitor is blue). I start to move, slowly because the boss slows me, roll dodging if I need to, and one of two things happens.
    1. No one grabs the pinion. I die. Unless the DPS was completely spectacular, but it never is. So, I die because once the boss catches me as I'm slowed to a crawl, the damage is going to kill me. If the team rezzes me and kills the boss after that, great. If we all wipe, I take a moment to explain in group chat that someone needs to grab the pinion in blue phase. If I die here, I'm not worried because there's nothing I can do if the group doesn't follow the pinion mechanic.
    2. Someone grabs the pinion. Hallelujah, my group knows the mechanics! I swap to DPS while watching the pinion like a hawk. Once the pinion opens up again, I grab it. In blue phase, continue moving away from the boss until someone grabs the pinion. In orange phase, stand and hold the boss in place for the DPS. I've never had low enough DPS that we needed to have three players take the pinion in turns, but that's a good hint.

But, it seems the Heat Stroke Kills me every time. The healer can't keep up with it. What type of damage is heat Stroke is it avoidable.

Heat stroke is the dot applied by grabbing the pinion.

If you share around the pinion, it won't get so bad that it drops you. Strategies vary from having a really overbuilt tank hold it (except for blue phase), sharing back and forth between tank and healer, and splitting pinion aggro evenly.

My favorite is to have the tank take every other pinion (so they don't get portals as often) and have everyone else rotate through as convenient.

somebody said the healer should NEVER take the pinion, and that it should be shared between the tank and the DPS with the healer sustaining them.

Like I said, there's a variety of strategies.

The person with pinion aggro doesn't get portals, so if you find yourself in a group where the tank and healer don't clear portals efficiently, keeping them on the pinion makes it more likely for DPS to be put on portals. Less of a concern now then it used to be, though (and not at all the best strat in an "ideal" group, where the tank swaps to DPS gear for this fight anyways).

Did you still kill the rifts/portals when they came up? Or did you ignore them and keep dpsing?

Can ignore them now since you won't be the only one getting portals anymore, so that strat is more viable now.
    Is heatstroke purgable?

That'd make it wayyyy too easy ;)

If you can't change direction, how can you kite the Inhibitor further than the edge of the room?

Also, does Retreating Maneuvers by any chance overcome the snare? (Somehow, I doubt it, tooltip notwithstanding ...)

This boss is a pug breaker. Pay attention to the wipes. If boss is almost dead at wipe it may be do able. If boss is at %75 health and group wipes, just leave. They won’t beat it. Move along. Save headache.

If wipe 3 times, just leave. They won’t beat it.

I normally gauge the possibility of nuking her in how quickly we burn the first boss and the various adds. If the damage is good I'll normally suggest we give it a try. - But you're right, unfortunately those groups are few and far between
