Cannot dye weapon unless it's part of an "outfit" (title edited)

I logged on the PTS to mess around with the new outfit system, and realised the promised "weapon dyeing" was only implemented to go along with the outfit system, meaning only weapons that you have the motif of can be dye, meaning only weapons that are craftable. This means the Maw of Lorkhaj weapons with the special black-blue glow cannot be dyed, Dragonstar, Maelstrom and Asylum weapons also cannot be dyed. This seems pretty silly if you ask me. The only reason I was excited about this update was so I could make my maelstrom staff look like a giant pink ***, and now that I finally can, I can't... D:

The outfit system itself seems alright, but I kind of wish that it would be account-wide motif unlocks, since this means that only characters with a lot of motifs learnt can truly benefit from this new feature. The convert to Imperial / Morag Tong was also not implemented into the Outfit system as mentioned:
Converting
  • "Convert to Imperial" and "Convert to Morag Tong" are no longer used from the inventory on specific items, and are instead incorporated into the Outfit System.
  • If you possess these collectibles, the Imperial and Morag Tong Outfit Styles are automatically available, and do not cost gold to apply to your Outfits. This means anyone with these account upgrades can choose to make any Outfit slot on any character appear in the Morag Tong or Imperial style free of cost, without actually modifying the item itself.

I think it's an interesting approach to the transmogrification systems other games use, but right now it has quite a few limits to it, which severely undermines its actual worth to players.

It's a work in progress. Unobtainable styles are hinted to be customizable in the future

In regards to the outfit system they are. If you learn a motif on one character all your character can make outfits with that style, but only the one that actually read the motif can craft normal gear in it.

Actually you are wrong. You CAN dye maelstrom weapons etc. Just watched Alcast and he did dye his maelstrom 1h weapons and a master greatsword. You probably just missed something, go check it again.

Ah, so the one character has to make and then the other ones can use it? Seems a bit weird, but I guess if that works.

    I think you've got it, @Saturn.

For purposes of the outfit system ONLY, all characters have access to the known motifs account-wide across all characters. In other words, all the known motifs are available to each character for purposes of assembling an outfit.

Crafting remains the same as it does today. Each character individually can only craft gear based on their individual motif knowledge.

You have to first login in the character who posses the motif knowledge and then they will be unlocked for all toons. This is how I believe it works.

Yeah, you can apply dye channels to your currently equipped item. That said, there is some weirdness with this system that doesn't seem entirely intentional.

This, most has one crafter who know most of the styles, he craft gear for the others, might also upgrade and enchant for them to.

Ah, just didn't work with mine when I tried D: guess I'll give it another try, see if I didn't miss something. It let me colour an outfitted weapon just fine, but didn't register my weapons when they weren't in the outfitter, hence I didn't have an option to dye them.

You can only dye one weapon at a time. Just weapon swap to dye your other weapon.

You can also change the looks of the Maelstrom weapon with any motif. It is weird tho that you can only dye the MSA weapons in the outfit, but not in the normal editor.
    Also, motifs ARE accountwide
    BASE GAME UPDATES

    Outfits
    [*]Outfit Styles
    • Before you can modify the appearance of an equipment slot, you first need to unlock the style of the desired appearance. These styles are tracked in a new Outfit Styles category of your collections, which showcases all available styles and provides hints on how to obtain them.
    [*]Learning Styles
    • The primary way to learn Outfit Styles is by reading Motif books and chapters. In addition to unlocking the ability to craft in that style, learning a Motif now also teaches you how to apply that style to your Outfits.
    • As this Outfit Style knowledge is an account-wide collectible, learning how to craft helms in the Glass style (for example) on any character allows you to use that to override the appearance of the helm slot of any Outfit on any of your characters.
    • These style collectibles are retroactively unlocked for all the styles you already know how to craft after logging in with a character with the associated Motif knowledge.
    • In addition to Motifs, completing the “Soul Shriven in Coldharbour” quest awards a set of Prisoner’s clothing styles, and you can expect additional unique gear and weapon appearances to become available in the future as well.

Hm, I think what I might have been doing wrong was assuming the dye would be possible to apply outside of the Outfit system, like how the rest of the dyes work, but that definitely doesn't work as the weapons don't show up as dyeable. Kind of weird that you can only dye your actual weapons through the outfit.
    a1he8e4yi7rw.png
I cannot be the only one who thinks this is a weird implementation. Like why is it only possible to dye your weapon when in an outfit >.<? Doesn't that just seem like they didn't fully implement it?

At least this explains a bit of the problem I was having. I kind of hope they fully implement the weapon dyeing so that it works outside of the Outfit system, like how the rest of the dye system works.

As for the account wide motif, I guess you have to go on the character that has all the motifs and buy the individual pieces there for it to show up on the other characters. I suppose it would be too hard to simply make it available account-wide for purchasing. Like honestly, I wouldn't have made this thread if the implementation of this stuff hadn't been so shoddy >.<

@Saturn ye I also thought that this is kinda weird. We also should be able to dye our weapons in the non outfit section. Maybe bug or ZOS wants to sell $$ tokens

Feels that way. If I don't need/want to change the style of what I have equipped I should just be able to just dye them like everything else is on live.
Looking for broken things in hopes they may be fixed. I've given up, my game literally works differently from yours.
64M+ AP across 9 toons... kinda makes me a GO
