A bunch of people were being silly and light-hearted, and having fun.
Then one person makes a dumb joke about how he was dating a "tranny" (his word, not mine).
Someone gets immediately triggered and starts screaming about how there are only two sexes, not three, even though no one mentioned anything about "three sexes."
Fun is ruined.
I close the chat box.
Sadly, I don't monitor zone chat anymore either. 'Tis a shame because I would love to see such things as:
LF help at xyz WB plz.
LF healer for xyz dungeon.
Where is the stable here in Elden Root?
Between the spam, jabbering and guild recruiting though, that stuff I would look for gets lost anyway though. Sad.

Yes, well, worst thing you can do about these ...individuals, is paying attention. They just say stupid racist things to feel important, and yes of course they don't really have much of a moral system. So don't answer to them, just screenshot, report and ignore. Believe me I get why you would react to it, it's the human thing to do after all, but a report is the best way.
My favorite is the periodic chats about real and in game economics in Craglorn zone chat, usually sparked by people wanting to buy items in bulk at a steep discount or sell items far above the MM/TTC price.
Closely followed by the usual chorus of "LF/WTS Skyreach carries" and "LF Trials group" with side notes of:
"You're a jerk for stealing my node while I was in combat" rant and the resulting "Quit whining" retorts
"You're a jerk for leaving useless stuff in the chest" rant and the resulting "Well, I'm gonna do it to annoy you" retorts
Craglorn zone chat is fun. Slowly but surely I'm learning to ignore it while I farm for nirncrux.
Reminds me of an incredibly dumb and annoying fight that broke out in Shadowfen during the New Life Festival event. Went there to fish, instead walked into a full on religious argument.
Like... guys... fishing should be relaxing, what is wrong with you?
Couldn't leave that zone fast enough. I could feel my IQ dropping by the second.
Protip: zone chat of a video game is not the place where you will change someone's mind about their religion or lack of religion.
PS5 NA. GM of The PTK's - a free trading guild (CP 500+). Also a werewolf, bites are free when they're available. PSN = DragonRacer13
That was fairly minor, but then you couldn't post the really good stuff here.
If you can suspend being insulted by what people say, some of the antics can be quite amusing. For instance watching two people trolling each other and waiting to see if one wins.
The best convos of course are where I can help someone else. Or, where I see others giving help. Then there are those times where some completely off topic conversation happens for a few minutes. During which a group a players have a meeting of the minds, then go their own separate ways.....
Close chat tab, open guild discord/mumble/teamspeak problem solved

Honestly I enjoy these kind of chats. They are entertaining, they "spice up" the game. They remind me that other people are actually playing that aren't android-players spamming their inventories or guild recruitment ads every 10 seconds
And if you don't like someone in the chat, block 'em. It astounds me how many people forget the block feature.

That's totally what Alpha should have done here, block the troll immediately.
But likewise, if someone finds themselves in Romeo's shoes and doesn't agree with or find intelligible something someone else says, perhaps just ignoring it is the best move rather than provoking them into wishing for your death.
Ok, I'm all for fun and pointless banter, but sometimes with the amount of stupid floating about I can't help but wonder if it would be alright to just let the world burn... or at least zone chat.
Where'd you find a zone chat for 10 minutes without a guild ad??
I think all the recruiters were so engrossed in the enlightening and thought-provoking conversation.
Some of the guild adds are the funniest thing in ESO.
One guild was advertising something like: 'Looking for high energy, exciting people to join us for raids, PvP and other highly competitive... Oh, who am I kidding, most of us smoke a bowl before we start playing, nothing gets done and we forget our own events. But we have a guild trader and casual atmosphere!'
