Whatever happened to Murkmire?

I came across a mid-2014 presentation where they covered planned expansions and updates. They were just about to roll justice system and talked about Wrothgar being in early planning. They showed off Murkmire as a planned expansion zone that was south of Shadowfen, and it sounded pretty far along.

Was there ever any indication what happened to this zone?

It's currently unclear and hasn't been mentioned in a long time.
I doubt, they will throw away all the work and completely forget about Murkmire. It might come eventually.

Shadows of the Hist and the Argonian Behemoth in VMA are what remains of that presentation if my recollection is correct
that is the same year they previewed the Justice System and planned player guards due to the ineptitude of the NPC guard AI, wasn't it?

It will appear, probably as a quarterly DLC. That was the fate of Clockwork City, a place we heard about and watched trailers about for a very long time.

Murkmire was planned to be adventurer group content zone, similar to Craglorn. But Craglorn was not very successful like this, it was changed lately, to be also group- and also solo-play zone.

Murkmire, nobody knows, if they will release it one day as a whole zone, or if they will split it into smaller parts and release it like that, or at all.

Likely: They saw how much Craglorn needed to be nerfed in order to be populated and decided not to bother.

I believe it was directly quoted by the argonian in DB but I'm not sure.

One thing I can assure people: If Murkmire makes an appearence it'll likely be something akin to the standard. Because Craglorn just wasn't fun for so many people because of the forced grouping. (I'll continue to call it forced. It's forced by design.)

They're having a few problems constructing the zone. It is a swamp, after all.

I really do hope they've been reworking it as a solo zone for a fourth quarter DLC. It'd be great to see more of Argonia. I don't think it could sell as an expansion though, since swampland sort of lacks that mass market appeal  Fingers crossed they use it as an opportunity to improve their environment design too, since ZOS have always struggled with forest/woodland design in this engine. Hoping they can improve on that front, and Murkmire is a good opportunity.

There's some amazing concept art too, showing how much the zone varies in environment design. From thick swamps to open vistas:

But... we all know how that vista would look in-game with this engine

unless ZoS does something officially I wont even bother to use Hook64... I did for 3 months and my eyes suffered greatly for the simple fact that the fog hides low res textures and seriously...without it you will go blind slowly and surely...do I want fog removal? hell yeah...but zos needs to put some muscle into upgrading far textures to high res...and tbh I would rather have them spending that time fixing cyrodill lagfest... yes I haven't given up on it yet! as if il ever...! but overall lets face it..this is 2018 and ESO looks great for an MMO but there sre some things that could do better...especially on graphics part and yes I know as long as there are consoles...I have a feeling we wont rly see any graphics changes unless they want to put a bridge or add more options to graphic tweaks so those people like me with nuclear reactors can use it to maximum power not being forced into the power of a toaster...

I think so far they dont know how to fit it in the story so far, so they halt its release until the time is right

They could, however it would have two issues.
1 you gpu must be able to handle it,
2 your line cpu and gpu must be able to handle players, npc and monsters on an longer distance, having them pop up would just look weird.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The most recent was in Clockwork City. It wasn't a major reveal just a minor reference, something along the lines of 'this stinks as badly as the swamps of Murkmire'. Sorry I don't remember the exact words.

After the Shadows of the Hist DLC, now I'm wondering if that burned looking patch is volcanic or lots of the same orange goo that was in the dungeon.

Nothing officially, but we can connect the dots.

Like many MMOs, ESO didn't sell as well as they'd hoped. So like many MMOs plans they had laid out for the future were just never mentioned again.

My impression from forum talk is that there wasn't much player interest in seeing Murkmire. I wanted to see it but the majority felt otherwise.

Like others have stated, it was originally planned as another 4-man adventure zone looks Craglorn. But thanks to the capital/solo friendly route this game has taken, they had to scrap that and rework the entire zone. It'll be introduced as either a quarterly or chapter update.

While i personally would rather have murkmire,
I think its pretty safe to say that Summerset is the next chapter.

They have to find a good place in their storyline to place it. It's a Chapter so it has to fit into this new Daedric War story somewhere.

Spellcrafting would make the imbalance we currently got even worse, and eventually break the game. If you want spellcrafting go play Oblivion instead.
