Never heard of the place until now.
But, ESO is my game of the year and I don't care what any website says.

The article was rather free with that statistic, implying that there are 10 million people actively playing. All ZOS has ever said is that 10 million accounts were created, which does mean 10 million players. We have no idea what the active player count is, but in a B2P game, most of them could be active, or at least able to be made active.
I was in the game yesterday and there were thousands (and I do mean thousands) playing. It is not like no one plays.
Implying, but I would be very *** suprised to hear that is the case.
It's much more likely they were given the statistic of 10 million accounts created, and ran with it, and ZOS never ment to correct them.
It also does not take into account how many are bots.
Right. The number probably includes banned and duplicates, as well as active bots (player and commercial). A better metric is how many of the accounts could be made active, since this represents the current potential for the game. It is a number that they know, but will never share.

Too often we come to the forums to talk about problems and issues, myself included. But we hardly ever talk about the good or give props where ya due. Despite all its flaws we have been coming back to this game for years. That’s not a coincidence or a lack of option. So congrats ZOS
And props to all of you. The community is as much a part of making this a great game as the Devs are.

It absolutely is lack of option. For me at least.
The reticle combat has very little competition, and quite frankly not alot of MMO's have controller support.

I'd honestly be more surprised if ESO didn't win, its not exactly like there is a lot of great competition out there right now. Most of the MMOs out right now that aren't just plain terrible are either really old, or really niche.
Lmao in what? PvP?
ESO have the best PvP system ever created in an MMO but they don't deserve it since the dev team is worse than Activision in releasing meaningful content and the PvE in this game, well, sometimes I wonder how the raiding guilds are still excited about this game when the existing raids are the equivalent difficulty of a dungeon in Guild Wars 2 or WoW and where the rewards are pointless.
ESO is in the top 10 but is definitely not in the top 5, after One Tamriel Zenimax released horrible updates without content and its been a year already.
When Tera and BDO will come to consoles I think ESO population on console will decrease so much and atm PS4 have the same amount of people than on PC.
(...)
Second - where did they get the number? There are no public disclosures (Zenimax is private, Providence isn't going to say anything until and unless they do an IPO). Did they call Zenimax and get the number from their marketing department (which would really damage the article's credibility)? Did they visit some website that scrapes account data for various MMOs (and if so, which)? Did they...throw darts at a board? Journalism 101, cite your sources. If you do not, you're either making things up, or you're covering up, and either way - again - why should I believe anything you write if I catch you doing this?
So on the one hand, congratulations to ESO and all that. On the other hand, that one line by itself means I'm not going to pay any attention to the rest of the piece and, in fact, discount the article as a whole as being just about as authoritative as "Teen Choice Awards" or some such. [Even as I personally might agree with some of the choices, e.g. TWWH2.]

We have such a strange community..Iv'e never seen a group of people fight so hard against anything positive that is said about this game. Though I have a feeling these will be the same people that will do homage videos and will bring it up every chance they get as the pinnacle of games after it closes.
I say that because I know SWG players that spent hours a day trashing the game on the forums...and now they are the keepers of the SWG flame. 'No game will ever compare to it!!" even though they yelled variation of "it sucks" and SOE is evil 24/7 while it was live.
That boys and girls is a whole new level of messed up.
Anyway glad to see the game getting recognition.

See.
I dont even have that problem, I just dislike the direction and outright adversarial attitude they take with they're customers.
And plenty of other people are geting to be that way too. This has developed over the course of years. We have no other way to fight back against this company other than this, considering even financial attempts to discourage they're behavior tend to fail.
So, we make sure they dont get bad press, or we drown it out. I dunno what to tell you man, considering your also about as fanatical as they come, dismissing everyone who makes a criticism as 'messed up' or better yet 'harassers'.

An impartial observer would disagree with you Doc......personally I have had plenty of criticisms of the game and I have voiced them....but unlike the usual suspects and their alt accounts I have the rational mindset that if you dislike a thing you move on to something you like and let Darwinism take care of the universe, I think there is something pathological and unhealthy about consuming something you hate understanding that you aren't going to get your way.
I did that with EQII, Neverwinter and with WAR AOR....I don't have time to waste on games I consider bad...but hey that's just logic.
*insert Bender laugh harder meme hereWhen Tera and BDO will come to consoles I think ESO population on console will decrease so much and atm PS4 have the same amount of people than on PC.

"ESO is even better this year than last, adding huge patches like housing, multiple DLC, and the massive Morrowind expansion. It managed to weather its controversies nicely too (I’m thinking of the fuss over chapters vs. DLC)."
"Elder Scrolls Online has done a great job at steady positive progress. ZeniMax isn’t just doing the minimum to get by; it feels as if the game is on an upward trajectory with plenty of substance being added. This year there’s a whole new area to explore with new stories to play through, a new class, instanced PvP, and –a major bonus in my book — a new housing system. Did I mention it now has housing? And pretty cool housing at that! This feature alone made crafting an even bigger deal as furniture came into play as a new marketable item."

What a crock. "Steady positive progress". "Not just doing the bare minimum". Someone got paid for this crap.
But then again, anyone who's seen anything in reguards to the 'game's journalism' media knows -exactly- how review scores are tailored. Men get fired for too low a score or too negative a review.
