Share your best story from the Mystery Box event!

So... 4 DPS ran WGT, with 2 being less than Max CP, and 1 not knowing the mechancis. No one had a tanking skill or any group heal. We made it, but that was one challening run.

Worst part was me repeatedly bashing my head over a wall because of this crap RNG.

Oh, did you say “best”? There was no best. It was all an equally-bad chore for no reward.

I ran Normal Darkshade Caverns II for the first time with my Warden Healer.

Now, I'm CP 690 and have run the dungeon before on other characters. I know the mechanics and I know the best strategy on the Engine Guardian. So I sigh, knowing that this dungeon is a grind at the best of times, culminating in a true test for my healer - the Engine Guardian's poison phase, which I've never done.

We deal with the Fallen Foreman, and I'm already seeing that group DPS is nothing spectacular. Its not low, but its not great either. On the plus side, everyone at least seems to know what they're doing and we have an actual tank so at least my healer won't be taking aggro. Hallelujah!

We hit the kwama boss and its chaos. Someone types to kill the scribs and the DPS try. But then the cave-in starts. You know, the Boss starts pounding the ground, the ceiling starts falling down, my group's health starts chunking down and I start healing. And healing. And the Boss is still pounding the ground. And the DPS are just standing there, doing nothing. One of them dies from running out of my heals. I rez them, keep healing, and the Boss is still doing the cave-in. One of them finally says "Does it ever end?"

I hastily type (while healing) that they need to break the boss' damage shield for him to stop. The DPS start attacking, break the shield, and the cave-in mercifully ends. Now that we know the mechanic, we kill the scribs and eventually bring down the kwama.

After this, we find out that one of our DPS has never done the dungeon before. Good to know! We quickly go through the mechanics of the next bosses so we're all prepared. I find out that the other DPS has never completed the dungeon. Nothing like a little more pressure on my healer to get that poison phase right!

Me and one of the DPS were commiserating about Grobull before we started. Grobull is a grind in the best of groups, but we just didn't have the burst damage for him. In the end, I resorted to going full DPS with a few heals on the netch spawns and just spamming cliff racers at Grobull whenever he dropped.

We make it to the Engine Guardian and I warn everyone to stay close to me when the boss turns green, I'm going to spam heals. We start, and after following him for a bit, the first poison phase happens. I start my healing springs, and me and the closest DPS are fine. The tank and the DPS who weren't close to me? Not so much and I can't go back and get them. They die and we wipe to reset the dungeon.

The second time...Wardens were made for Darkshade Caverns II heal checks. Everyone knew what to expect and stayed close in the healing circles. During the fire and lightning phases, I used Lotus Flower and kept the group healed with light attacks to conserve resources for the poison phase, which turned out to be not as bad as I'd feared. All I had to do was manage my resources well enough to cast healing springs every couple seconds. We beat the Engine Guardian for a nice finish to a sometimes rocky dungeon.

As happy as I am to have completed the Engine Guardian's heal check to my satisfaction, I was beyond thrilled with my groupmates. We didn't have the best DPS by any means, but we all pulled together to grind our way through. Everyone learned and adapted very quickly. We had a lot of fun - there's something special about knowing you are helping someone learn mechanics and complete a dungeon for the first time. It would be easy to get frustrated with the grindy mechanics or low group DPS, but everyone stuck it out and in the end, we triumphed together.

Darkshade Caverns II was one of the highlights of my random dungeon event and it wasn't because my healer succeeded. It was awesome because my group pulled together, made it work, and together we triumphed.

Well I get put into nBF with 690 stam dk pvp build my 690 mdk pve build and a 160ish healer and a 240ish tank.

No one is talking but we get the 2 first bosses down fast no issues at all. But then this is where things got weird the stam dk pvp build run ahead pass all adds very fast I follow(very hard on a mdk build) The others seem confused on why he is running pass all the mods and straight to the boss. Well they got killed and we are both on the boss and they can’t ress.

We finish the boss no issue the other low lvl cp guy start running to use but this stam dk takes off super fast. Again the 2 wipe from adds and he starts the boss fight. We are doing fine but the low lvl cp players are getting *** and start writing that I’m a jerk for not waiting mind you I’m just following the guy that’s taking off. Again we kill the boss they ress but die again now we are on the last boss. The tank leaves the group and continues to pm me how I’m a jerk and a scum bag for not waiting.

We kill the last boss everyone that stayed got credit and it was a fast run. So I wrote back the player that left “if you just stayed in the group you would have got credit for competing it” again I was called an idiot elitist for not waiting and not wiping so he could catch up and not do much but die anyway.

Got the Horse on the last run on a character I had not ran during the entire event until then. Somehow dont feel happy or satisfied at all. Will be much more hesitant to do these sort of events in the future.

    My guild is awesome.

For the last couple of days we've been running all of our characters through. The drops from the boxes were incredibly disappointing for me and it was made worse when others were getting recipes worth a couple hundred thousand gold, mounts, and etc. But I kept plugging away. I was fine with it because this was the very first time I've ever run these dungeons (My guild is primarily a PvP one) so I was interested in learning the mechanics and learning how to heal differently than I do in PvP. It has been a very good learning experience for me.

But the drops continued to disappoint. Mimic stones? Don't need 'em because I wear costumes. XP scrolls? Meh? Potions? Oh man, my cup runneth over! (/s) DYE PACKS even though I'm subscribed, I have most of the colors, and the colors were gross ones? HOORAY.

My streak of bad luck gained sympathy with some of my guild mates. So they were kind of rooting for me when we were taking my last character through. "Come on, ESO! Mama needs a new mount!" *Gets a repair kit and a treasure map* "Oh. Disappointment."

My guild mates were like, "Do you have any other characters?"

"Only my crafter. She LITERALLY has no skills other than cloak and the DB passive that lets her ride past things without getting much aggro because before she joined a trading guild that has all the crafting stations she had to ride out to them to craft armor. Seriously, all her skill points are in crafting. Nothing else."

    "Bring her. We got this."

"She has no weapons, armor (other than the lowbie stuff in her inventory for research), 8K hit points, NONE of her CP points have been spent because she's a non-combat character and I couldn't be bothered when they last got reset. She is COMPLETELY USELESS in a fight."

"Bring her. We got this! WE'RE GETTING YOU THAT MOUNT! Just equip yourself with the drops in the dungeon. Come on!"

And so in our TS channel they were chanting "Hashtag Save Neph (my name)! Hashtag Protect Neph!" Mind you, my crafter is 50th level so there was a real possibility that we could have gotten a more difficult, DLC dungeon but, fortunately, we got Darkshade Caverns 1.

Man, those mobs were TREMBLING IN FEAR over my 3k damage when I occasionally critted them with my bow. By the end I was a nightblade wearing a full set of Armor of Truth (lol). I didn't die! Nobody died!

Then the moment of truth. With my heart pounding, I opened the box.

    The universe stood still.

    Everyone held their breath.

YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT I GOT!!!!!

    Waaaaaiiiit for iiiiiiiitttttt......

An Undaunted key and a treasure map.

Because this is the real world, not a fairy tale. No Cinderella ending for me.

BUT I still had fun and I love my guild members because of it. Yeah they could have easily soloed that dungeon, or they could have just went, "Oh, that's too bad." But they were willing to drag a completely useless character through to help me out :)

So in a way I did win. I won last year when I joined my PvP guild :*

You got a horse for free and you are not happy? Oh wow. Grumpy old man.

Anyway, I got my Treasure Hunter costume on the 2nd run and now for two days nothing. :) Still hope today will be the day. Enjoying my time nonetheless. Aside from one group, most people were friendly and I had so much fun.

I got vet COS for random(I know you can do normals but those just get so boring after a while)...on a character that's supposed to be a tank but whom I haven't used for like years and she doesn't even have Warhorn or anything :)

Made it with just 2-3 wipes. DK tanking is ridiculously easy.

I've also led a group of total newbies through vet Spindle II as a healer, one of them being a cp 30 tank who actually meant to queue for random normal :D This reminded me of the good old 1.5 times when only the bravest of the bravest dared to enter vet Spindleclutch, and even they usually wiped on Praxin for a bit. They were willing to try and learn though and we made it eventually :)

I got a great story about the whole event so far...

Day 1 - Three guildmates and myself try queueing for a random dungeon for over an hour, trying different leaders, different roles, regrouping before it came out the queue was broken... no loot for us.

Day 2 - Slightly different group, same results... no loot for us.

Day 3 - IT WORKS, at least if you get up early to play. 4 runs, 3 of them being Spindleclutch 1, so having an inspiring game play story is tough in that dungeon. But the monotony was broken up by Bloodthorn Forge. I had not done this one before and it was quite fun. While it is a long play thru the design is cool w/ interesting bosses. The best loot any of us got from the runs was the free emote you get entering the Forge... mediocre loot.

Day 4 - Early to rise gets the Mystery Box apparently. 4 more runs... 3 being Spindleclutch 1, did they run out on dungeons? Last one is Selenes Web (queue underwhelmed “woohoo”) well at least it’s not Spindleclutch. Time to open 4 boxes... best thing I got was a green CWC design, sigh.

Day 5 - tried to play after work with guildmates. 2 quit after an 40 minutes of queue problems. 20 more minutes of queue fail we teamed up with 2 rando’s from zone chat; 30 more minutes of queue and we gave up... no loot for us.

Now that I write this I guess only thing great is my level of frustration.

Queued as DPS on a handful of characters (only 14 total runs for the event).

Queue times were avg 8-10m, but this morning's was like 1m.

Got through the dungeons with no problems, no group drama, etc.

Got loot each time, including 2 costumes, and some minor things that didn't bother me (except the one lockpick).

...overall, it was fine. No group finder issues, got some semi-useful loot, and I'm poor enough that the 1k Plunders were nice, too.

    /shrug
