What is the justification of "50" Transmute Crystals!!!

dominic.iraceb14_ESO
I'm confused here.. when i first heard of the Transmute Crystals, i was exciting thinking that there would be a small gold fee (similar to Diablo 3) to change your trait.. or a 1 for 1 trade (1 crystal for 1 trait switch).. [snip] i also fell out of my chair when i saw they wanted 50!! to change 1 trait.. okay then.. i figured that you would probably get 10 or so for completing a dungeon// !!! [snip] again! I've only been getting 1 per dungeon!

With my calculations, and my available time.. i need to complete 2 dungeons a day for 25 days!! this *** with the Transmute Crystals doesn't make sense.. I was able to just go over to Craglorn and visit the Trade Guild and for $1500 gold, i just bought the same armor with the trait that i wanted, a total time of 4 minutes.. am i missing something here?

get into the rewards tiers for Cyrodiil. 7 day campaign gives 10 crystals in it's end of campaign mail, 30 day campaign gives 50.

It's more meant for bind-on-pickup gear you'd have to otherwise spend ages farming for, like vMA weapons or monster shoulders.

Run normal trials on a weekly schedule and you'll be drowning in the things. Five per coffer. Also, do a minimal amount of PVP (like 3 BGs, really) to get 4-25.

If it's gear you can farm easily, there's little point in transmuting.

Yeah with 4 characters in Vivec, I hit 200 crystal at the end of the campaign, on top of the 1s, 4s, 10s I was getting dropped for dungeons and pledges since CwC dropped. A better question is, Why cap the accumulated # at 200? Not sure what the point is. If I can just not open the Transmute packages and hold back from collecting the stones from my inventory until I need them, why put a cap on it?

I'd give you some if I could. Seriously, spend a few hours PvPing and you'll have more than enough.

To add to this, if you were able to buy the gear you needed for 1500$ gold, you probably aren't using gear that people will actually use transmute stones on. Personally, I have only used them on Trial dropped gear so far. Overland and dungeon sets are too easy to farm, with the exception of weapons.

Yes, you are missing a few somethings.

First, there are far more efficient ways to get crystals. I get around 200-250 a week or so, and that is really without trying all that hard. If you really wanted to, you could get a lot more than that. PVP is far and away your best source of cyrstals, followed by farming normal trials on multiple characters.

Second, and more importantly, trait change was designed to be a supplement to a gear grind, not an outright replacement. If you are going after a full set of armor, it still makes sense to look for the correct trait in the trader, or grind until you get most of what you need. Crystals are there to fill in the 1 or 2 pieces of a build (usually weapons), that are difficult to get in other ways. It also makes places like VMA and VDSA far more palatable for your average player.

Other than 1-2 monster helms, I have only used crystals on weapons so far. A weapon trait can make or break a build. One or two incorrect armor traits is not even noticeable (other than to our OCD) to the vast majority of the player base 99% of the time.

Because over time you would collect huge numbers of them. Then when the next dlc lands with new sets or other existing sets will become BiS. So you could just farm that set for an hour, retrait and you're done. Too easy, no grinding.

The cap means you'll never be able to retrait too much at once. Though with 50 crystal geodes from pvp its still really easy to store a lot.

I think it's actually a well rounded rng rewards system implemented by zos ( I know that sounds strange) being mainly pvp focused Iv accumulated 200 since it started and that's with the troubles with this patch so less playtime
The only problem is the cap because I only have one toon I'm forced to use them or I lose them why is there a cap?

What I think I may do with my excess crystals is craft training weapons in different sets that I may use and then retrait them to nirnhoned. Saves on needing to farm or buy nirncrux when I want to use those sets.

You don't still use the trait item?

If that's the case (admittedly I never retrait things to nirnhoned and have hundreds of the other trait items so I'd never notice) I hadn't thought of that. Huh. I guess if 50 transmute crystals is worth the 10-15k a nirncrux is...

PS4 NA 30-day just ended. I was around rank 10,000 since the load screens prevented me from playing, my alliance was 3rd place and I was tier 3(maxed) end of campaign rewards.

I got 100 transmute crystals. 50 from 1 piece of mail, 50 from the other.

I've gotten only 4-5 from my first RoTW mail on my characters, but I heard some people have gotten 25. So definitely going to run PvP on my 14 chars for their daily first RoTW mail if I have time :)

PvPers have gotten the short end of most sticks in this game. This system is clearly set up for them and I think it's fair. I generally solo normal dungeons, so I get crystals one at a time, if the pledge is easy that day. Then I went to Cyrodil to get a couple skills and got 50 crystals in the mail. I'm saving them in case I ever land a Maelstrom Bow. I still don't have 50 outside of that one delightful piece of mail, but I'll just farm the rest because I like PVE. You only need to work hard for the jewelry and monster helmets. I also don't think the rest tough to get, even on your own and I'm not good at this game.

I think the rationale for the PvP rewards are the crystals are to help you get the pieces you seek. While PvE peeps are doing the content that drops the items more often they have more chances to get the trait they want already. PvP peeps are spending most of their time PvPing, so less time to get items. So they get more crystals so they can change the stuff they did take time to got get.
    It makes sense to me.
I'm only a casual PvPer, that being said I have not gotten an end of Campaign reward yet since the crystals were added, but i should get them when the current one ends as I tend to play a campaign, sit one, play one, on the 30 day campaign.
    Ummm stuff… about stuff…or something.

You get them so fast I'm actually afraid they might pile up and have no gear to retrait.

The system is wonderfully designed. Players and ZOS did an excellent job during the PTS cycle IMO.

Haven't really been playing much lately, but they actually seem to be a lot easier to acquire than I expected, and with that in mind 50 actually seems kinda low imho. If it was 1 for 1 trade that'd basically just render the whole trait system useless - why even have different traits drop on gear if you'd just instantly easily change it to whatever? Like people have already said, it's not there for an instant "choose the trait you like" for any single piece of gear you find, it's there for that elusive MA staff or Lich shield or something that likely takes forever to get anyway, let alone in a good trait.

I've just been running randoms last few days like everyone else with the event and I'm sitting on 40 crystals already. Add to that PvP crystals, pledge crystals, veteran randoms crystals...50 seems super easy to get.

Everyone must have good luck in these dropping in PvP....the pattern I seem to get, first RoTW for the day I'll get some every time (as is intended), usually 4 or 5. From then on out for the rest of the day, bupkiss....Sunday for example, received 5 crystals for the first RoTW and then must have gotten 6 or 7 more that day, nada, nothing, ziltch, zero...

I think only 1 other day did I receive more than 1 transmutation crystal drop...

It seriously boggled my mind how quickly I got my gold transmutation geode form PVP. I hate this game's PVP more than almost every other games' PVP I have ever played, but all I did was join a zerg and take one castle. That's it.

If you do that on multiple characters, you could get 50 in a couple days with just a couple hours of work per day, much less if you get a lucky break (ba dum tiss).
