Random Dungeon Event experiences, other than loot

I took a shot at the Random Dungeon event, and it quickly added some clarity to what we've read.
  1. Where you stand on the daily timer is very clear: Either the UI to queue for a random dungeon tells you you'll get a purple reward bag plus a gold mysterious reward box, along with a lot of XP, or it tells you you'll get a blue reward bag along with less XP.
  2. When somebody wrote it was necessary to kill "all" the bosses to get the reward, that was inaccurate. My first random dungeon of the event was Wayrest Sewers 1; we skipped the Ratcatcher; I got the rewards anyway.

Anyhow:
  • I queued for Random Normal with my best max-level healer, for fear of being overmatched in some DLC dungeon or other.
  • I was actually grouped with 3 characters in the level 21-30 range. As you might imagine, I did quite a large fraction of the DPS. :)
  • I'd estimate that 1 or 2 of them were solid, experienced players on alts while 1 or 2 of them ... weren't.
  • There was no conversation whatsoever, not even "Hello". Perhaps, since I was playing around 1 pm Eastern, I was grouped with non-English speakers.

I guess we'll be seeing even more misanthropes than usual during this event. Just had a group chat like this:

    Me: "Hi"
    <no response>
Me: "Shall we skip this boss?"
    < no response>
    [ I skip the boss ]
    Random#1: "Don't skip"
Me: "So you do talk after all :)"
    Random#1: "Less talk, more dps"

Hah in my experience most pugs are super quiet until something bad happens. Then they are suddenly quite talkative....

I almost always pug and so rarely have problems its not worth commenting about but this event has been a disaster. I've legitimately never been as upset at this game in nearly 4 years as I have been in the last few hours.

My first several dungeons were nightmares. First was a normal Banished Cells 2. How bad could it be on normal? Very bad when you have no tank and everyone is low level. The 'tank' was just a regular old sorc who occasionally taunted but wasn't using a frost staff or anything, then got angsty when they got oneshot by Kinlord over and over. Maybe because you have 12k HP you absolute loon. I can't outheal stupid.

Then I figured maybe if I did a vet dungeon that would filter out the people who are just queing for any role because they think they don't have to try, even though they're only 90cp. I got some 300cp complete moron who pulled the entirety of vDS2 up to the boss AND the boss and then died, killing all of us in the process. Then did it for the second boss, then left in a huff when it didn't die fast enough. Dude, you don't just pull speedrun strats out of your ass for a pug, especially without letting your healer know you're about to Leeroy the whole bloody dungeon.

So then I did another one, since he bailed, and ended up just noping out of a vCoA2 where some fool did not know the mechanics for the first boss and wasn't interested in letting me explain them. I was not gonna suffer through face tanking THAT dungeon for hours, nope nope nope.

Swapped back to normals on my other toons and got low level players who had the absolute audacity to not play like idiots just because it's an event weekend. Bless that group of level 20-ish players, I feel like I would have burst a blood vessel if I had to put up with one more sub CP400 hero who thought he was gonna solo a whole dungeon in his underpants.

When you pay a guild mate to run your characters through vMA, you can still be horrible at dungeons...

I never talk much in pugs unless i realize im the most knowleagable and i can save grief by poitning out mechanics OR flipside. i have no idea what im doing and ask others on what I should be doing.

If we're steamrolling the dungeon, i probs wont talk

Ill occasionally type an 'oops' if I accidentaly commit suicide or something. (I swear I fall into the void EVERYTIME I do VoM) - and falling off WGT at least once is inevitable

I was trying to level a healer via normals last week.
    She's lvl 43.

Its going to be painful dealing with an even trashier pugfinder those next 2 levels.

2 runs that were especially memorable (though I only pugged about half my dungeon runs today, the rest I did with guild groups.) queue up on my stamblade. get Selene's. ugg, at least its normal. kill the first boss and.. purple gear drops? I look at combat metrics. realize that the reason it went down so quickly becasue the other dps is a badass. and this is in fact vet. oh crap. major MAJOR kudos to that group for not kicking me, not saying a thing and getting through nicely and smoothly and with zero deaths. and special thanks to a tank I once ran with who show me and guildie some nice tricks for that place :)

run number 2. this time I remember to switch it to normal. imperial prison. oh dear god. our tank is actualy a dps with a taunt. and the only thing I can think or say is... "thank god I'm on my templar who is actualy specced and leveled for healing and not on a DK with her hasty first 3 skills from resto staff tree" who otherwise mostly just does daily crafting writs nowadays. we actualy got through it pretty well. not without a few deaths, but mostly pretty well. but... it was definitely memorable :pensive:

overall pugs today that i personaly was part of, were very lovely. some people were new, some people - experienced. zero jerks. which is always lovely.

On my cp 388 healer I qued for random got White Gold Tower. Port in and of course encounter a portal. Group has done first boss I was hoping they were past the Iinhibitor but no such luck. So we make good progress and then a dps up and leaves. We get another and get to the inhibitor and the tank leaves. So we wait on a new tank. I have never healed wgt but sort of know what to do. Tank grabs pinion and I get portals I try to close them then pinon gones blue and no one gets it so I go and grab it. Not sure if I was supposed to or not but I did it anyway. So I'm running spamin heals and finally boss goes down.
Rest of the dungeon went smooth.

Most fun in a long time, we found we should group in guild group as it would make it easier for finder,.
Got confirmed that the one refusing the group tend to be the server not the players.

anyway we tried to queue many times, swapped leader and we got in, except it was veteran and darkshade 2.
Worked supricingly well even with fake tank (benefit on last boss) and me as sorcerer healer who had never healed on character before :)
Grinding just make you go in circles.

Didn't have any trouble, of all 12 dungeons I did today everyone was good. We all either knew what we were doing or adapted as we went, no harm no foul.

Mostly had groups that didn't talk. Two that decided to speedrun -- one so much so that I didn't get a chance to grab the quest at the start (was worried about getting kicked for being slow).

One of the runs I was grouped with apparently three people who had grouped together before queuing, and none of them (aside from the dps) were the role they had queued for. It was also a dungeon I had not done before (Cradle of Shadows), and I was dps with a single not so great self heal. When the tank isn't a tank, and the healer is definitely not a healer, and you don't know the mechanics... ehhhh! Two of them left halfway through so we replaced both tank and healer for real tank and healer. At least overall all the people involved were nice enough, despite them lying about their role.

Luckily no outright rude people so far today.

The one thing I cannot stand in group content is rude people.

Also... I think I am officially in love with the healer role in this game. <3<3

I did a random dungeon with the OP, who happens to be my husband. I healed on a low level alt, he DPS’d on a high level sorc (we both have max, or in my case, a few points from max, CP). We got a 500+ tank and a lvl 33 second DPS.

At the start, Francis said in chat “Hullo, everybody.”
    Me: “Hiya.”
    Everyone else: Silence.
    Me: “Anyone need the quest?”
    Silence.
I note that someone is talking to the quest-giver and tell Francis over our home Discord that it looks like we’re doing the quest. In this dungeon, CoH, this involves killing one extra boss. No problem. Turns out I need the quest on this character too.
We get to the end with no real problems, although he and I can duo the dungeon faster than this run takes.
    Me: Good group...thanks, everyone!
    Francis: Thank you, all.
    Silence.
We all leave the dungeon and the group.
Me: Tell me again why we’re playing with phantoms when we could just be running this ourselves?
Him: Uh, being social, for a change?
    We both laugh.
    Me: Cool reward boxes?
We check our reward boxes. Nope.
Me: Not sure it’s worth it.
    Him: Try another?
    Me: Sure, why not?

I've never done any dungeon runs before so these were my first 3 and I had only good experiences.

After having been really worried I was going to get kicked for being useless and spending loads of time crafting blue set gear, enchanting it, making pots, food etc to prevent it I'm glad to say I had only one death and no kicks. Although I was definitely carried since 2/3 runs had CP690 people in them

Ran Banished Cells I twice and Spindleclutch I once with chars level 10-13. Have to say I'm really grateful to the people I ran with today. It was so fun to finally do this and have it not end in disaster.

Yesterday was my first day experiencing random dungeon group finder, and what I learnt was that it's best to queue as a healer.

I like when people at least say hello, and a friendly tank is also a plus. Quiet pugs are a bit disconcerting, just a "hi" would be nice. I let people know upfront if I'm a newbie in any way, and that seems to be appreciated.

To CP 160+ folk, please be patient with us newer / lower level players during this event. Thank you.

When i queue with my crafters i usually try to make a premade group, where i carry some with Mains then they carry my crafters. Can carry a full group of crafters aswell.

But were 2 random dungeons as a crafter aswell without a premade, both went nice, in both used to say that this is a crafter char and people were totally ok with that ('no worries :)').

So kinda yeah, at least speak with people if you plan to be carried with some chars or ask them they can do it :)

I haven't run a dungeon since the first few months the game was out on PC. And I only did one back then lol. I was able to run 4 characters through tonight and it was completely fine. Of course I'm running normal dungeons since I'm new to doing them. But having not done one in so long, I didn't quite believe that normals were this easy lol.

I really like that they do events like this because for me at least the possible rewards are interesting enough for me to go for it, even if I'm freaking out. And it helps knowing lots of other people that are new to it are probably also trying it out right now

The 2 I did people just ran ahead from me, first time I was the healer and they just kept dying so just to be that guy I waited the whole dungeon at the entrance until the last boss and then made my way ( slowly ) to them to complete the dungeon

Oh and they kept dying over and over

On my first run today I took my new lvl13 Sorc, nFG1 with 2 other 'teens' and a lvl 20 something, everyone said hi and then we ran it.....

Everyone seemed to know what they were doing and it was a great success

I think everyone said the appropriate 'thanks' at the end.

I lol because on my Magblade I was all eh I can heal on this if need be, bam insta queued and they *** right off and don’t give me 2 secs to get my resto bar set (they knew I was on dps role - we had another dps and a tank) and I said I could heal on a normal fine, just need to get my bar....poof off they go! No resto bar no heal skills slotted, and they just kept spazzing through the place - spammed a skilpoint into vigor which I barely had time to slap on my bar before combat again, and healed with that and sap essence. No deaths, bby.

Although I might now switch siphon to funnel health and twisting path to refreshing - because low Stam and really I think vigor should go away, in all honesty (I know minority opinion on vigor). I just don’t know the values of damage for those because I’ve not used them in aaaaaaages, not even sure if I ever have.

Anyway, that was scary for me as a healer main and funny as my Magblade is not one xD
