When VMA boss trashes you around for an entire day

    Got tired of banging my head on this wall... also there was the thought that when they inevitably raise gear cap I would have to do this crap all over again... just didn’t feel worth it :/

    I don't think they will ever raise the gear cap. It would require a complete reversal of the path the game has been on since they decided to release one tamriel.

    Thanks for the tips everyone. I think what I really needed was a day of break and some 9h of sleep. Voriak followed me to my dreams though. haha

    I think my biggest problem is still the adrenaline rush when I get down from crystal phase letting me panic and smash buttons easily. If I just stayed close to the boss and collected all the ghosts I wouldn't have too many problems I think. But yeah...theory.
    Also I didn't know the shield sigil reflected damage. That might be a very valuable tip and actually make it much easier. I will be able to save some stamina and deal a lot of damage at the same time. How much damage does he take from his own attack during the interrupt phase? Anyone know?

    Another thing that let me die countless times (and actually enraged me the most) is the ridiculously clunky interrupting. I was actually there when I had to be and tried to interrupt but somehow it didn't work. Any tips for a gamepad user? Does it help to put block and attack on one button? I have an elite controller so could do that with one of the paddles. I read somewhere that it doesn't work if both buttons are pressed exactly at the same time, though.

Be ready to interrupt him when you come down (unless he does the big aoe first), and then grab the defensive sigil, so if you are in the midst of killing the summoner or chasing ghosts, and don't realize his beaming attack is happening, you are at least covered.

    That's exactly why I'm leveling Crushing Shock right now. I'd prefer to keep Force Pulse for more damage though if possible. Should be very doable with tripots and a reliable block+attack interrupt. I'll try and map those to one of the paddles. Would be pretty sweet if it worked.

    I'm actually stuck on Voriak Solkyn myself. I can get to him fairly easily, but after spending a few hours on him last night I just got completely stuck. The longer I tried, the worst things got.

    I'm doing it on a stam sorc at the moment (this would be my first clear if I can manage it) and I'm finding my sustain is a huge problem. The best I was able to do was take down 2 crystals before I got knocked down and killed pretty much instantly. Even with constant heavy attacking I don't feel like I have the stamina to do this, and on top of that I was getting a lot of what felt like lag deaths.

    Basically, I was getting murdered by AoEs I wasn't in very frequently (most often the one-shot AoE or the lich crystal chain things). On top of that, the skulls were ignoring my blocks and dodges half of the time, so I'd get knocked back and killed despite the fact that I had been blocking with enough stamina and/or dodging them. Eventually it got so bad that I had jumped off of the top after dodging a skull, got teleported back up, hit by the skull anyway, and then knocked back down to die. I quit after that.

    This is beyond frustrating. I can't tell how much of this is from my connection, and how much of it is just Maelstrom being Maelstrom. I would very much like to clear this before the event ends, but I'm starting to think that won't happen.

    Yeah, I don't think I can do this before the event ends. Too much frustration, and I've run out of gold from repair costs as well :(

    Agree. OP, believe me also, I am a tank. In mind, skills, behaviour. I'm playing the DD role just really rarely. I can't even break 20-22k on the dummy. And I can finish vMA. After countless soulgems used. But now I can clear it in ~2 hours, when I'm tired. I'm enjoying the arenas, the rounds, even if I die a lot still.

    OP, you'll be able to do.

    What sets are you using on your Stam sorc, for sustain VO is great, + the speed increase after killing and the 5% damage bonus in dungeons. Now iam stuck on my stamsorc on stage two (another story) but combined with Automaton or whatever set you prefer dps and sustain isnt an issue.

    I'm actually trying again right now and I still can't get past the crystals. Heck, I'm having problems just getting up top right now. This is even worse than when I was trying last night.

    My connection is better, but I still can't block or dodge his skull attack properly. I'm still getting knocked down and taking the full damage despite blocking, and it has hit me more than once while dodging.

    I think I'm just ready to give up on this place. Maybe I'd do better on one of my magicka characters, but I do not want to start from the beginning again.

    I got him to 5%... And then died from lack of stamina. I'm now laugh-crying.

    I am also stuck at stage 9 for few days now. I just died from FALL DAMAGE, seriously fall damage? God dammit.

    edit: noooooooooooooooooooooo almost got it damn it, now I have to do all that again -.-

    eidt 2: WOW AGAIN, seriously, I kept missing the damn gold ghost

    edit 3: wth, this damn effing ghost went so close to the boss, god damn rng, what the hell man, i hate this damn gold ghost phase.

    I also stuck at stage 9. My templar can't handle this stupid deadroth along with the boss.I wasted more than 100 soul gems and ten thousands of gold before I gave up.

    I tried my best, but I am not getting any better from the looks of it. Even if I do beat stage 9, there is no way I will get better at stage 9. Stage 5, 6, and 7, sure I will eventually beat them with ease, but not stage 9.

    Edit: I seriously need superb help with the gold ghost phase, every time I enter that phase, the gold ghost is always near the boss, how the hell am I suppose to snatch that quickly? I ended up dying trying to get it or it goes directly to the boss..... I really don't know what to do. The first two phase was already rough.

    Edit 2: I gave up, not doing this, I am done.

    In total, over my three clears, I died there like 400 times. Now I'm confident that I can play all the mechanics and beat it anytime again but before I only got lucky two times. I may not have kept going if I hadn't gotten my lucky clears but I can assure you now that 100 tries are not necessarily sufficient. So don't give up.

    For collecting ghosts it's beneficial to stay close to Voriak as all ghosts navigate towards him. It's doable without though if you have a plan B for the Daedroth.

    Guys look up @Lukums1 guides they are awesome.

    Part three of Voriak should be quite calm if you come down in good order.

    Grab any sigils left
    Interrupt boss unless you have defence sigil left then let that whack him
    Kill summoner (I leave aoe in his path normally and carry on on boss)
    Grab ghosts, come from the Outter rim near him normally i dance about close but not too close lol
    Pop synergy and drop ultimate on both.

    Got stuck on round 4 of stage 9... no double weapon drop for me :/

    Any tips for that? I managed to get the first 2-3 summoners down with either no channelling or only a couple of seconds worth. Killed the Crem Guard a couple of times. Where I'm getting stuck is when two summoners approach at the same time, even if I've saved my Ulti for them - they still manage to summon the Bone Colossus.
    If I concentrate on just trying to get the summoners down, though, the Crem Guard (or is it the Ogrim?) will get me instead.

    Anyone having trouble on the crystal stage (getting knocked down or stunlocked to death) could consider doing what I did to be able to beat the boss for the first time. Immoveable potions (immoveable + health + Stamina or magicka).

    It's good for the learning curve and having time to DPS the crystals because you don't have to worry about falling off or getting cometspammed, except for the wall part. I drink one right when I go up and then again on cool down. It makes sure you have resources to DPS the crystals in the first place too.

    It isn't really needed over other potions once you can start pre emptively knowing when to dodge roll, but it's good for the first kill and any other struggles on future attempts. It made the difference for me. It let's you take one mechanic out of the situation for the most part.

    Also, to any stamsorcs with sustain problems at that part, using dark deal while jogging with the wall the first time seems to help me a lot, as an Orc without VO, I use dubious throne and 1 Stam Regen glyph, and it seems to be enough for me along with a few heavy attacks.

    Yeah those are mean. I usually burn them with a well placed Elemental Rage. Or you fire up the ghosts when they reach the center and AOE them down.

    Use NMG instead of twice fanged as often the adds die or the boss moves and you wont build up full penetration on your target. NMG is a constant, high penetration all the time. I run NMG and VO with Kragh and its OP.

    I find sustain is fine, I use 2 damage glyphs on jewelery and 1 stam recovery, about 800 recovery in total prob, cant remember exactly, but I'm redguard so get Adrenaline Rush. Before going upstairs I always kill the dragon/dinosaur thing on the white platform with heavy attacks to rebuild stam. Pop a potion as soon as get up. Drop dots on first crystal, dodge/block immediately then dmaage *** out of crystal, when wall comes up reapply dots and make your way to wall. if your next to another crystal heavy attack it and drop dots on that and ensure crit surge up to keep you healed. Have the Blood Craze morph of twin slashes to heal you too, and vigor every now and then. just make sure there is always dots on atleast one of the crystals all the time.
    Once you destroy crystals and get knocked off pop another potion and immediately get speed boost sigil (I take the shield at the start which helps with the first daedroth aswell) to help you get ghosts, more often than not if you dont get it you waste stamina sprinting to collect ghosts and then die.
    From there ist up to you how to progress, some kill the summoner and the daedroth, but Im at the point now where I gnore both of them and just burst the boss, interupt when hes chanelling and stay out of his expanding AOE circle.

    You can save the ghosts spectral explosion for that to freeze everything leaving you time to take out the summoners then its just you and the ogrim left who is easy when theres no summoners to worry about.

    Or

    I just drop some Aoe in the path of one of the summoners usually then take out the other, and by time first one is dead go back to the 2nd and its almost dead from walking through my aoe.

    If you can time the explosion from the golden ghosts when the two summoners spawn, then it helps a lot with getting to them both quickly.

    tbh the best advice is just to be aware of where they spawn (right on the outer edge of the arena, watch for the portals) they walk really slowly into the centre and can be burnt down easily as they are proper squishy. The problem is that their seems to be a timer and when any combination of the five summoners has summoned for a total of 15 seconds then the bone colossus will appear. If you can get the first three before they reach the middle you will have plenty of time to kill the duo. The fly in the ointment is the Deadroth that appears just before the duo pf summoners spawn in.. he needs to go down fast.. Took me a heck of a lot of goes to become consistent at it also but its a lot less stressful when that bone colossus is not around and the good news is its just one Ogrim to take care of after that..

    I spent two hours on last boss and admit that at 250 CP, VMA final boss is nearly impossible. You may have more CP and should able to do if i can reach all the eay to final boss :)

    I did on my pc account at 260 CP when Sharpen and Thief Mundus were not nerfed!

    If you use the reflect glyph at the start it becomes a lot easier if you struggling with the first daedroth.

    Maybe it's that my SD isn't high enough (2300+) because even if I rune prison one, drop LL and Ele Blockade they don't die before they reach the summoning circle. Should I change the glyph on my Lightning staff to WD (instead of Shock)?
    For the record, I'm using Juli on the back bar and Infall Aether on the front, and I have SD glyphs on all jewellery, and use the SD mundus.

    Maybe it's that my SD isn't high enough (2300+) because even if I rune prison one, drop LL and Ele Blockade they don't die before they reach the summoning circle. Should I change the glyph on my Lightning staff to WD (instead of Shock)?
    For the record, I'm using Juli on the back bar and Infall Aether on the front, and I have SD glyphs on all jewellery, and use the SD mundus.
    With such low SD (mine is about the same as you can see in my screenshots) I think you should really try to use the ghosts on them. But wait until they almost reach middle before you drop so you can AOE them together. Then Elemental Rage on them and they will definitely be history before they can summon. If you place the ulti at the right time and right place it works without ghosts too. Remember it has a delay of two seconds so fire up early.

    A side note:
    Not only did I get vma inferno and lightning staves with best traits, no, I just ran Craglorn trials for the first time and got infallible inferno :D

    @LadyLethalla trap beast works on the summoners.

    You can basically drop a rearming or lightweight trap on one and kill the other. hashtag easy mode.

    I cleared vMA the first time by using another mouse and keyboard as I started it with. The replacement did not occur because of natural deterioration...

    Not sure this was addressed, but you have it backwards on the stage 5 boss. It is absolutely NOT a DPS check or race. Sure if you are fast you can nuke the crap out of him, but if there is any place in the arena where you might need to hold DPS, this is the place. Everything on that fight (except the trolls) are on a health timer. Been a while, but I believe the relevant benchmarks are: Two adds at 90, 60, 30%, and Island smashing at 75, 45, and 5%.

    Again, this is the one place in the arena where too much DPS can back fire. If you just nuke the boss to 45%, you will have 2 sets of adds, 2 nerieds, and only one island to stand on. Sure you can nuke it, but if you want to play it safe, the fight goes like this.

    Burn to 90%, halt DPS, and kill adds. Wait for a troll to spawn if you want to play it really safe, kill troll, then burn boss to 75%. Move to next island, kill the neried, wait for troll, kill troll, burn to 60% and stop DPS to kill adds. You can then wait for a troll again, then burn to 45%, and move to the last island. Again, kill the neried, wait for troll, then burn to 30%, deal with adds, then try to finish the boss.

    Now all that troll waiting is a little bit of overkill, but the point is so that you never have multiple things to deal with at the same time. This method does take a while, but it illustrates that this place is in no way shape or form a DPS race. You 100% control the pace of this particular fight and can honestly make it easy mode. This fight gets increasingly more difficult the faster you try to do it.

    Personally, I dont wait for trolls, but I am careful to halt DPS on the boss at 90 and 60 to take out the adds. Once I get to the last island, I typically ulti-bomb and nuke.
