How do you choose your non-combat pets?

I'm in Cyrodiil about 95% of the time so obviously I rarely see my pets, but the times I am in PVE land I usually just use the Ice Wraith pet or the Dwemer Sphere pet. They remind me of better times in ESO xD

Wonder how pets behave on nightblades while in stealth? Reason I ask is due to one of the funniest things I've seen in an mmo. Gw2 have miniature pets which follow you around. In world vs world a perma stealth build thief, was running around Stonemist castle. Normally not a problem, no one is going to find them. Unfortunately for this player, they forget their miniature pet was following them around and was not in stealth. A group of us just followed the pet and eventually killed the player.

    I don't use those annoying little s*** / I can't because I'm a under-previlaged pvper
I used pets for 3 months until I qued up for nMoL in april 2016. Almost never since then - I equiped my beta monkey when I farmed for sharp BSW destro in November / December last year since I was lonely but otherwise never ever. I finally got rid of my sorc pets as well! Hate those things

I do - way to many. I hate them as well  well I park my pets there..... I don't feed them though so might be dead now for all I care.

Sometimes it fits the character, sometimes it fits the "lore", and sometimes it is just a pet following my character.

One of my characters always has the monkey tagging along, and will until they start handing out monkeys to everyone in the Crown Store. After that, I will never use it again.

I have a Warden that has a "bear cub in training" in tow because when Wardens were new, "everyone" expected people to pick the bear Ultimate, and I had not.

My main Clockwork City character (furthest into that DLC) has a Dwemer pet to match the general theme of the area. The Loyal Dwarven Sphere, right now. Not the Brassilisk or the Skeevatron, because I see these everywhere.

I have a Khajiit with a cat and an Argonian with a mudcrab. Stereotypical followers, but sterotypes sometimes happen.

None of my Nightblades would ever have a pet. I don't know if they are seen by others, but they are seen by me, and they don't act stealthy. I even cancel my conjured pets when I do steathy quests, just because I can see them. It is silly for me to be hiding in a shadow while this huge Winged Twighlight flaps her wings and babbles to herself a couple feet away, out in the middle of the room. I'm not looking for immersion, but I have to be in the mindset to do stealth stuff. Besides, ever try to pick a chest when the stupid Familiar is in front of it? They block the interaction.

Pets don't get in the way, but they do stand around an animate the entire time while I am not moving. My main Nightblade would be killing them, were that allowed.

By the way, has anyone noticed that pets arrive first when someone teleports into a wayshrine? Several seconds before the character arrives, the pet will arrive and start doing whatever the pets do.

I never have a pet out. Now that we have housing my pets remain at home.

You do not say what pets you have at home but all of the pets in ESO are of the kind that would enjoy a walk, run or forage in the wide open spaces of Tamriel. I mean, there are no goldfish for example. You should take your pets for a stroll regularly. It is what responsible pet owners do.

I note that you are a Master Explorer and that once-upon-a-time you did roam the countryside together. The pets probably miss these outings and the adventures you shared together. God forbid if you only have a small apartment or a house without a large garden.

It is up to you - but please, for their sake, do the right thing!

It depends on the character concept and what would most logically fit with that particular character.

What pet I want ZOS to add is a storm atronach PET. I have the mount, but would be nice to have a storm 'pet' to go along with the mount which would make my 'storm-based' characters more complete.

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom How about it? Can we get some atronach pets for the game, since we already have scamps and such?? PLEASE!! ;)

I choose my costume, mount and pet to fit the circumstances. Mostly the place I'm playing. If I go in Orsinium, for example, I need my character to have warm clothes and a fitting mount/pets.

I generally remove my pets in Dungeons.

    Hmm, pet choices.

Sometimes its the Zone I am in, I try to avoid using pets that are of the same critters I have to kill.
Sometimes it's the mount I am using on that character, I like them to match like momma cat and baby cat.
    Sometimes its an RPG reason.
    Sometimes it just plain Whimsy.

Each of my characters uses a different pet fitting with their theme.

High elf that spends all his time studying dwemer ruins? Obviously, he'll have a loyal sphere following.

Telvanni mage that roasts their enemies alive? Hearthfire Hatchling, of course.

Living shadow of Rajhin? Give 'em a Black Senche-Panther kitten!

A character with a pet! It must stay that way and need to be lore-fitting or my OCD will burst
I have enough pets now that each of my 9 characters uses a different one, and I sadly have to leave out one or two of the ones I like because I don't have enough characters to go around. (I don't count the ones I don't want to use because they make obnoxious noises, like the jackal and the echalette. Those make me sad for a different reason.)

My main character has Snorri the goat because he is best pet. I briefly switched to the Dwemer spider after I got it, but I missed Snorri so I switched back. As a nightblade it's fun going around being stealthy and having Snorri running around making his not-stealthy burpy noises.

My Nord has Scruffy the scruffy dog, because I can see her grudgingly allowing it to come along with her after it starts following her around, and then getting kind of attached to it. (Kind of like Meeko in Skyrim.)

My Orc has Pork Bowl the pig, who is a kindred spirit in girth and makes her kind of hungry when she looks at him.

My Argonian has Babbyganetch the baby netch, because they're geographically compatible and she'd probably enjoy something floating around being even lazier than she is.

My Bosmer has the Dwemer spider (Sprocket) because it's the sort of thing she would have picked up during her dungeon-diving for loot.

My Redguard has Buster the battle dawg because it suits her warrior nature.

My Altmer has the stonefire scamp because she's got a history with summoning. Its name is Chauncey.

My Khajiit has Spike the sep adder because it's prickly and badass and she would get along with him well.

And I gave the clockwork mousey (Glitch) to my Dunmer because she was basically the only one left who didn't have a more suitable companion. I figure she would have liked a clockwork toy to remind her of simpler times.

I think non-combat pets help set the "tone" of your character. It's really more of a visual accessory for me that helps other players sort of get a vibe on what my character is about and what their personality might be like.

To me, a domestic dog sets a very different tone compared to a daedric pet.
