If you agree the devs should add capes and cloaks in 2018

Agree.

But it won't ever happen. They said the extra animations and physics would put too much of an unnecessary strain on an already complained about game performance. Sure you want these things but do you also want more lag?

I agree but the way they do things right now look horrible. Everything sticks to ur character have you seen the Breton hero costume?

If they did add capes they would just stick to our legs and look weird. If they could change that and let them flow I’m all for it.

Capes are cool. Not going to disagree with that - but they would also take a lot of processor time to look good, in particular when there are a hundred people on screen.

If they can find the extra processing power to do that, I'd rather they improve things like draw distance.

I like my games to have characters wearing stuff that is practical for combat - that means no capes/cloaks (too much of a trip/tangle hazard) - and no armour with huge gaps in it.

As a but of a combat/armour fanatic, it kind of ruins the immersion for me if its not believable (most Asian MMO's instantly fall into this category for me - for a number of reasons - huge swords and silly costumes being the main ones)

Definitely agreeable to an extent, but mind you all it would take a few good years to work out the technological physics to make the capes work, it could be a type of Armor in a way, you know, Light, Medium & Heavy capes, it would be like wearing 8 pieces of Armor instead of 7. (Even more years to implement Armor set capes along with the Research.)

Few more years later, people start masquerading as game of thrones characters with a little more variety.

I originally would have liked capes but based on the game as it is now I would say no to capes. Adding capes would likely add more performance issues to the game (and we have seen a constant issue for years especially in Cyrodiil ) and we definetly do not need even more options to complete multiple proc sets.

capes and cloaks being glued to the back of our characters legs is so 2004. just about every mmo since has produced the free flow physics of capes and cloaks. ESO is a beautiful, industry leading game, it deserves industry leading physics .

I like them, but I remeber from the nonMMO parts of the series that we to get those ourselves into the game!

I would like them. But:

1. Since they have stated that they are a performance hog they would need to do very basic, non-intensive physics type cloaks. LotRO has decent cloaks that flow nicely and use basically no CPU resources.

2. If they want really pretty cloaks, they have to offload it to the GPU, period. They can't afford to have the CPU handling any extra physics as it is already the limiting factor for FPS in this game.

If they can't do either of these things then forget about it entirely. Never forget the Breton Hero costume.

True. If it decreases performance it would not be worth it IMO.

I guess they could make the capes static, they would be stiff, and that would not do much to increase lag, etc. However, then we would still have these threads wanting them to flow so probably still not a great idea to add them.

I'd much rather see performance improvements, bug fixes and QoL before capes/cloaks. Don't get me wrong, in some games I love having them but in ESO I just don't see them as fitting into the setting anyway. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't recall ever having cloaks in any TES game without the use of mods so I kind of got used to not seeing them in the TES universe.

There's already a system in place to handle crowds where you overload the system, when you run up to a giant crowd of player characters they're rendered to look like potatoes. They could just keep doing that, capes could be the last part to render in any overloaded screen or not at all, but when you go solo questing or join a small group, a big flowing cape could be awesome.

Business do not work with a robust team of more than enough people to work. Programmers are doing multiple rolls. Same with the Art design/programmers. All business run with the very minimum required people to get the work done then minus 5 people or so. You never have enough employees to keep up with bug fixes and new development. This is one way a business keeps costs down.

So when I say I would rather have them use resources on QOL and bug fixes that is exactly what I mean. I have been working in the software business for a while now and I can tell you this is how it works just about every where. There are always exceptions to the rule, but based on the speed in which things gets fixed at ZOS I doubt I am wrong here.

And yet... Not only can they not do any kind of free flowing armor or costumes... they can't even put out costumes that dye properly and there are costumes and armors that have places on them that you can't dye at all. This goes all the way back to Daedric armor and to as recently as the Breton male noble costume where you are forever stuck with BROWN boots and belt because someone forgot to include them in the dye channels.

And shall we talk about HAIR? In addition to not being able to have capes we apparently can't have long hair either because no one can figure out how to code its movement properly.

Oh and let's not forget floating shoulder pieces and floating hip flaps. Apparently NOT being able to do something right in no way stops the devs from actually doing it as they continue to slap hip flaps even on light robes regardless of how many times they've been told by the player base that we don't like it.

They cant even make shields be held in the character's hand just floats there we see the straps the painted handles but it just floats there.... they ruined 3 costumes iconic to the game because they got lazy and didnt wanna follow through. ..
