More RP related features? A few ideas?

LordSylvestrion
I can imagine I'm not the first one who has complained about this, or maybe I am... I don't know. Point is, I moved from WoW to ESO hearing the RP in it is great and I preferred the pace which ESO offered of letting me be an on and off player. Just reached CP level 160 yesterday, and I only just now managed to get into the aspects for which I joined the game. [I joined for RP, stayed for everything else being amazing pretty much and got distracted ;) ]

Where was I, oh right. The RP aspects of his game are horrific, I understand that may not be a targeted audience, I've also not ended up in the best RP guild but I can see many areas for improvement.
-There is a lack of any sort of way to organize roleplayers outside of guilds. WoW has TRP, MRP, and many addons which allow people to show their characters to others. I heard there is a reason as to why it is impossible to do it, but isn't there a chance that can be worked around with possibly an in game feature of some sort? No game has ever done it, and I can see how it can be a little silly but I really feel that this is a lacking thing. Roleplayers are often a pretty big community, and that community is lacking here in a game that is quite perfect for it.

-Improvement on emotes? I hate how my character stands up or cancels an emote every time I try and access my inventory or something. It requires me constantly sitting myself back down and it kind of kills a part of that immersion into the story you are portraying. Would it be so difficult to let a person stay in their emote while doing other things like checking for group stuff and all the other?

-Incompatibility of emotes. This may be a smaller one, but still sometimes a pain in the [snip]. The fact that I can't eat or drink while sitting or emote other stuff while sitting is a bit of a pain. I can understand how maybe the whole emote system is already set and doing that stuff can be difficult, but a tweak to it would still be amazing.

-RP Servers? They're not going to be a thing, I know, that's not how this game works. Unless they were to be but that's not what I'm here about. I do believe ESO works on phases, right? I'm not too sure. But maybe something like a RPer only phase? I dunno, this one is stupid. But it is possibly not as important if you have the something similar to an addon that can pick you off as a RPer so that other RPers can see if you are perhaps in character or something? ^^

-Horses/mounts and walking. For gods sake, an option to have it that when you press the walk button on the mount that its speed resets to match that of other players so that you can maybe do a mounted convoy that is walking in the same speed instead. That would be a simple yet such an amazing feature! Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee.

-Emotes showing in the chat. It's not a must. Not really at all. But it sometimes helps in tracking what players around you are emoting. But eh, that's not as important as other things I suppose. Maybe the ability to emote at someone the same way you press F. ANd then get to pick an emote and that player gets the message that you did it? I don't know really. This is another silly thing like RP servers that bugs me a little but that I can live without. xD

-Other ideas people would like to pitch in? Yeah, please do if you read this far! And maybe if any mod left it and they have a few answers as to why some of these features are not as important and will surely not be answered or are planned to be approached in some way that'd be also nice. :open_mouth:

    Hello!

For what it's worth, I think some of your ideas are sound. For example, combining multiple emotes such as eating or drinking while standing has been requested before, most recently with the introduction of the ability to sit on chairs and stools and whatnot. I would personally love to use the /torch emote and then walk around with it. Yes, I admit, I miss that feature from 'the previous game'.

I'm personally not in favour of RP servers as I see no reason why they have to be separate (not that it would ever happen anyway, for a myriad of practical reasons). Some of the very best RP sessions I have experienced have been completely unplanned with like-minded strangers and having the flexibility to interact with others who don't want to focus on RP in that way is important. There are better ways to engage in RP using the current system I think. What I do think might be useful is to somehow flag to other players that you are open to RP in the game. As always, these things are open to abuse, but then the same could be said for various other aspects of gameplay (read: there is always someone who will go out of their way to be a pillock and ruin something for others).

Anyway, just a few thoughts of my own. Rather than complain, we could politely raise these requests to see if they catch the eye of one of the team. There's no harm in asking, regardless of whether others agree or disagree.

    Oh, almost forgot - here is a link to a brilliant post and video by TheHumanFloyd which you may find interesting. I did, and I have shamelessly plugged some of the ideas within where I can;

It's nice to see this topic, and it's very rare these days. A lot of people still RP, and many have just given up asking about the things they wished would change, but it never hurts to bring it up again. Maybe we'll see some changes in the next big quality of life update. One can only hope.

-There is a lack of any sort of way to organize roleplayers outside of guilds. True, nothing much to do about it other than use websites like eso-rp.com. More guild functionality would help too for those few mega guilds that cover a region of Tamriel or a topic of interest.

-Improvement on emotes? I hate how my character stands up or cancels an emote every time I try and access my inventory or something.
Try No Thank You. It's possible to force the game to glitch and allow your character to perform an action as they walk around, like holding a torch. It would be awesome if that became a feature where you can continue an action as you walk or sit.

-RP Servers? Housing is pretty much the only psuedo-fix for this, though there are player caps that make a lot of house options unusable for many groups of RPers.

-Horses/mounts and walking. That has always been annoying

-Emotes showing in the chat. That would be pretty nice to have. There's also Tamriel Online Messenger to help keep messages and emotes organized.

-Other ideas people would like to pitch in?
    Raise housing caps
There was a huge list I saw on another forum years ago, but hopefully more people will add to yours.

Would love tavern minigames. Dice exist, maybe cards as well. Could do drinking games where RNG added intoxication levels, and even make it so certain races held their drinks better (nords, bosmer, argonians).

Anything functional to be added to inns/clubs. I promise, we can handle the rest ZOS, if you give us a few more fun tools :)

-There is a lack of any sort of way to organize roleplayers outside of guilds.
...and that's why there -are- guilds to do that. Some of the less combat-istic titles can help as well.

But what -would- be quite useful was if all characters also had an short in-game "description" bit on their interaction wheel... where strangery passing by can read up on whatever the player might want to write in there. Roleplayers of course would add their character backstroy, and thus put up the flag to others. Non roleplayers... well, they might brag about their combat prowess, coolness attrribute or endowment sizes, or whatever, but that too would be telling us something about the kind of mind behind the avatar...
    -Improvement on emotes?
...eh... seems like it would then be difficult for the game to know when you want to end an emote, and when not. How'd you like staying locked in your emote when combat starts?

That being said, I oftentimes feel it would be nice to have some more options. Perhaps not emotes, but... for example, a disposable torch "disguise", that while "worn" lets you walk around with a lit torch, but "unequips and vanishes" when entering combat (like any other disguise). And then you have to light a new one from your inventory...

There could be more of that sort of course. Lanterns, bags of loot to sling over your shoulder, etc. Simple flavor stuff that locks you in an emote-ish while walking around, using the "disguise" mechanics... one enemy blow, and its gone, and you obviously cannot stealth while its active.

For musical instruments though, I would prefer a whole "bard" guild skill line... like: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/306759/additional-guild-ideas
    -Incompatibility of emotes.
...depends what you mean by "while sitting" - furniture sitting? That should be doable, all they need to do is add some new new emotes... "drinksitting" and "eatsitting" for example, right? And write code that makes furniture-sitting different from emotes (if it isn't already) and have it so only movement cancels the furniture-sitting, not additional emoting...

Emote-chair-sitting? Less easy, since starting one chaireat emote would have to cancel the chairsit emote (since they are both emotes), and you'd have to chairsit again after the chaireat emote ends...
    -RP Servers?
...would be nice, but are not gonna happen anytime soon if ever. Maybe if server upkeep prices ever drop to a fraction of what they are now through new technology... but I would not hold my breath.

Not to mention, in every game with "RP servers" I have encountered PvPlayers in those servers who just go there because they figure the "roleplayng geeks" will be easy targets for them in PvP... so I doubt human nature would give us the "roleplayer only club" we desire in any MMO even if the possibility existed...
    -Horses/mounts and walking.
That is actually not such a bad idea. Toggle "walk" while mounted, and reduce all mounts to one speed that everyone can match, no matter if they maxed their horse or just bought it... I like it!
    -Emotes showing in the chat.
Agreed. It would be quite useful for roleplay support if they added that one... possibly on a seperate channel though, so people can be selective about wanting to read it or not, as they choose.

Thank you. ^^ And yeah, something like that would really be awesome. Or as @TheShadowScout mentioned here the option to have it be a an appearance thing of sorts that you can equip and it cancels out once you enter combat is also a very good idea!

Haha, have seen that video long long long ago actually, forgot of its existence, could have added a few points from there. ^^

True, the guilds -do- exist but I don't feel they're sufficient enough. Some of the best RP I had personally in WoW though was the non-guild sort between players who just randomly met. ^^ But I'll agree with the other things, some sort of description like that would be awesome indeed!
...eh... seems like it would then be difficult for the game to know when you want to end an emote, and when not. How'd you like staying locked in your emote when combat starts?

I really so so so love that idea of it being a kind of appearance disguise thing that you can maybe activate and deactivate. Or hell, add it as an item even? We have appearance items, a torch or lantern wouldn't be much different, right?
For musical instruments though, I would prefer a whole "bard" guild skill line... like: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/306759/additional-guild-ideas
And this one is also something I approve of! The ability to choose what songs you play and what-not. Another thing I noticed is that the same songs don't play for all players. I had a guildie tell me what the bard was playing currently and it didn't match with what I heard, but that's NPCs.
...depends what you mean by "while sitting" - furniture sitting? That should be doable, all they need to do is add some new new emotes... "drinksitting" and "eatsitting" for example, right? Some NPCs can do it, but yeah, I understand how from the technical standpoint these things can be messy, and would possibly require reworking a few things but yeah. Some sort of option would really be nice.
That is actually not such a bad idea. Toggle "walk" while mounted, and reduce all mounts to one speed that everyone can match, no matter if they maxed their horse or just bought it... I like it!
I know right? That deserves a thread in itself so it is noticed. xD It shouldn't be a hard fix, right? Would just be changing the speed of the horse when it walks, and it would have such a nice payoff~!

There are another few things I would like to add!

Weather - I took notice that weather is not synched between players, and that other people in my party will experiance different weather than myself. I'm not sure if that's because of some sort of lag towards me or something, but it would be a nice little fix for everyone to experience the same stuff.

Music - Music is also not synched. The same bard played different things for different people. That was just kind of strange, and once more am not sure if that was a personal thing or a game thing, but yeah, why? xD

Same horse speeds when walking! - I'm reminding this again cause its a really simple fix I think that would be incredibly fun!! :X Pleaseeeeeeeeee.

Maybe people have given up or gotten used to it? Myself am a fairly new player and have played only since last christmas so for me it is all pretty fresh. ^^ But thanks for acknowledging it.

Yeah, it is time then to make a new one~! The more this thread grows the more of a chance it has to be noticed that this still is a need so we can nudge Bethesda that we agree. They added things before which were a nice addition to the RP community, but I still feel it lacking. ^^

Other than that, thank you all for your support here! I hope we can continue to expand on this thread in hopes of getting some attention or being noticed so that these things can at least be considered. ^^
