Any Viable Hvy Attack Magicka DK builds??

Magicka Hvy Attack builds used to be pretty decent for DK using Torugs and/or Elegant combinations or variations. Doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Anyone having a different experience?

Depends what you want to do.
If you want to do dungeons, you can prob use builds similar to previous patches.
If you want to do casual fun trials - im sure there are builds for that.
If you want to do competitive trials - you won't get on the roster because a stamDK will take your place.

    Hope this helps.

No worries, here is my simple mdk, been through everything pve can throw at me, it’s not as optimised or meta as it could be because it’s designed to be ultra simple, the last thing I want in a dungeon, when a pug boss fight inevitably turns into a furrball is a complex faffy build. Also I’m assuming your after pve as you posted under the general mechanics

There is nothing wrong with heavy attack dk builds, for one it lets you avoid using whip which is easily the worst looking and sounding skill in the game. It’s been best part of a year since I felt the need to change anything.

High elf or dunmer by preference, I use high elf simply because I prefer the look

Gear is Julianos, silks of the sun and any monster helm you feel like, I personally like molag kena.

Cp set up, just put a good sized pile in damage over time (go maybe half to two thirds at most because of diminishing returns) and staff expert, crit and penetration, the rest can go in using any magic dd setup

    Double bar a flame staff,

Front is nirn with fire glyph
Back is infused with extra damage glyph... can’t remember name

You will start all fights on back bar by using wall of elements... after buffing

Most of the time you will just use the back bar, front I just keep for bosses and when things get hairy, outside vet trash normaly won’t survive you back bar anyway.

Just remember never let buffs fall of and keep doing heavy attacks, on average mine can clear the thirty k mark and combined with all your other dot and aoe equals a hell of a lot of damage

Absorb magic and flames of oblivion on both bars

    Front bar
    Burning embers
    Fiery breath
Inner light (yes I know that’s two crit sources on one bar but the extra magic makes a huge difference on tough targets)
Destro ult... we need this for the staff single target damage

    Back bar
The eight second version of wall of elements
    Eruption
    Molten armaments
Shooting star (whichever one gives you ult back)

You will definitely want a Maelstrom destruction staff, and maybe also one of the undaunted sets from either Blackheart or Arx. This can be paired with burning spellweave pretty effectively. Elegant isn't terrible, but not the best these days, even for a heavy attack build. Go with lightning staff front bar, since lightning heavy has the most damage potential in PVE, and therefore you should not use Silks of the Sun. I find Ilambris set to be great when mixing fire and lightning skills.

@Integral1900 You should drop one of the Flames of Oblivion and double bar inner light instead.

Oh, I appreciate the feedback. In truth I'm more interested in a CP oriented PvP build but I'm taking notes on the PVE advice as well. Been doing more and more of that lately.

Masels builds are cool as he use off meta gear. I currently run nhis stam DK build and it's awesome.

    It's a lot harder after

    1. nerf to heavy attack
    2. nerf to stealth crit
    3. lot of people using Miat's add on
    4. nerf to Clever Alchemist

Magicka abilities (and heavy attacks) don't have guaranteed stealth crit (and have never had extra dmg from stealth, unless your character is bosmer/khajiit).

Also, Miat's doesn't actually show incoming heavy attacks from stealth (but does show the cast timer for ones outside of stealth).

The biggest hit to heavy attack builds & their viability happened with the 15% dmg nerf in Morrowind patch, though they did increased dmg to off balance enemies from 45% to 70%.

So if you can find a way to get off balance on target and then land a heavy attack these builds could still work, but it's just a lot more inconvenient & difficult now.

In PVE, everyone uses heavy attacks now due to the Morrowind sustain change. So your magicka DK rotation will be to apply dots -> heavy attacks -> reapply dots -> more heavy attacks -> repeat. You'll get top DPS. But DKs have a lot of dots, so you'll only be heavy attacking 1/3 of the time.

@Masel92 is the author of this, and has updated it for HoTR

I'm using this myself (love it), but only hit 32K with Major Breach (the author can do 36K without major breach). I'd be very interested in any updates anyone has to this.

With the nerf to heavy attack damage, the pvp heavy attack DK -- already very niche -- pretty much died.

I tried 5 knight slayer, 5 elegant, 1 maelstrom destro and the heavy attacks ate right through tanks but it's very squishy and I didn't feel my survivability was up to par.
