Yea the reason you were sucking is cause you were trying to do magika dps in medium armor also lightning staves are almost a must with how insane the heavy attacks are to deal AoE damage.

    I knew I shouldn't have said anything...

I'm still using medium armor, and doing much better than before.

The magblade rotation is complex compared to others for vet/trial dps. However, the key thing is CP allocation. The meta YouTube guys have videos out with conflicting CP allocation. Which has led me to build my NB how I see fit. I solo world bosses and dps/heal dungeons with her and she does great. It has by far become my favorite class to play.

I run 5 piece Julianos and 5 piece Mother's Sorrow with a fire focus (dunmer)

Ohhh crafted armor sets, me like-y. Good to know, I redid EVERYTHING, skills, CP and magicka/health point location and I'm testing her out just out and about, she does good now. I suspect with practice and once I get enough mats for those sets, I'll do even better.

I kinda did a combo of almost every comment here, I got duel swords and fire staff with the follow skills.

Bar one with duel swords: Impale, Funnel Health, Siphoning Attacks, Grim Focus (not morphed yet but will once I can), Mirage

Bar two with fire staff: Unstable Wall Of Fire, Crippling Grasp, Refreshing Path, Summon Shade (again not morphed but will once I can) Reaper's Mark.

Got 10 in Health, 54 in Magicka, CP wise I got 76 points in Arcanist, 76 in Spell Erosion and 76 in Medium Armor Focus (might change this later when I can make a decent set of light armor in the sets listed in the quote above.)

Are you on PC NA? I can craft you Julianos if you provide the mats. Also, I will message you about your CP allocation.

I am on PC NA, but mats are what I am lacking, I can do it myself, I just don't have the stuff yet.

I've not played a magicka templar or warden yet enough to compare but magicka nb is definitely my favorite magicka class. The sustain is great, even after Morrowind dropped.

The thing about them though is that their self healing most of the time is pretty closely tied to how much dps you do. If you don't do much, your healing won't be much. Like all magicka classes you can use the annulment morphs for harder content, like maelstrom or dungeons. You can use that to cover your health while you passively heal from doing damage.

To me though the hardest part about them is getting used to firing off merciless resolve procs at the right time. Twisting path synergizes pretty well with blockade, but the animation feels a bit long so I tend to barswap cancel that when I cast it.

I have a powerful magblade vamp in 5 pcs. War Maiden, 4 pcs. Julianos and 2 pcs.Ilambris, with a lightning staff it's 2-nd after MagSorc true power in ESO in my humble opinion. High critical chance, great in AOE damage, great sustain due to Swallow Soul, I'm also struggling to solo as many as possible normal group dungeons with this one.

How many points into health should I put in her? or do you guys put any in?

Health can come from sources other than the health basic stat: gear, food and CP up to CP300. You're normally fine in any content if the total amount after buffs is ~17K or so.

If you're leveling your first character or just want to not even have to think about health, just put as many points into magicka as your current level and dump the rest in health. If you do that you'll be running around with health around 20K and with armor set drops and other buffs your magicka should be in the 35-40K range without breaking a sweat.

Once you hit CP160 and start using end game gear that you won't out-level, you'll probably want to adjust it with a basic stat respec.

"Dump it all into magicka (or stamina)" is end game build advise that many new players mistake for leveling at level 10 gospel.:)

You really shouldn't be. 7/7 light is what you want if for no other reason than magicka regen. Much, much later, once you get to the high undaunted levels, there is a passive that will benefit from going 5/1/1 but while leveling a magicka anything other than tank you should really stick to all light - medium is for stamina builds.

Besides, if you're not crafting and rely on gear drops (which is very, very doable) it's the light armor sets will give you benefits that help magicka builds.

You will do beter in a light armor set with a sub-optimal 5th bonus than medium twice born star, they usually are quit cheap. Or check out War Maiden, most of your damage will be magic.

My main is a stam NB but when I started working with this build from Alcast, I have to say Mag night blade is pretty darn fun to play and extremely effective.

    https://alcasthq.com/eso-magicka-nightblade-build-pve/

you were faster than me, I wanted to post this right now :)

also this build from Gilliamtherogue is very similar to Alcast`s and the video is really long (46 minutes) with lots of info:

as far as I watched many build videos on magNBs, the rotation is pretty hard to learn (keeping all buffs and dots up all the time), but once you get it right, this class is pretty good at this time (in PVE at least, I am not into PVP at all)

Yeah I'm not worried about PVP, I stink in it either way and it's just funny to try sometimes.

Its my new main for PvE, great AoE damage, but could never get it to work in PvP. Seen some hard hitting magblades but they seem few and far between
