Yes and yes. It was also a Massive Multiplayer game, unlike today.

That last night of the beta PTS before PC launch was epic, we had several hundred players all gathered at the (then still blocked off) southern IC gate in Cyrodiil. And back then you could still see all effects on other players and (gasp) there were still deer in Cyrodiil!

That was one party to remember ...

No, people are nostalgic for the time when we could have huge AvA battles without dropping to single-digit fps. Having hundreds of players on your screen and still having your skills work, sound too! And doors. The doors opened, every time!

A buggy mess and horribly imbalanced?

Imbalances: They replaced unkillable 1vzergs with unkillable Zergv1s. Class balance is out of whack. Warden is top by a lot. Everyone plays tanks or shieldstackers. The balance has gotten worse in the last year, DB with current procs/poisons would probably be the optimal balance levels.

Bugs: Loadscreens, still not fixed. When we die, when we port, when we run too fast/gapclose. Broken abilities calculations and lag, still not fixed.

At least we have some sembelence of communication now. PvE is sexy.

The reason that worked, is because most people played ESO like and ES MMO and mostly did light and heavy attacks.
V. Ball groups today.
A group of 10 is probably putting up more calculations today, than a group of 100 then.

Yeah because the new features they added such as:

-infinite loading screen
-relief from sound
-bullet time (lag)
-way way way better balance (not much better)

It's just a huge overall improvement over the ridiculously smooth gameplay with so many people on the screen.

But seriously, doesnt seeing this video make you want to punch a dev in the mouth?

You can see more players in that one battle of old ESO PvP than all of the players allowed in a campaign for today’s PvP combined. Also enormously better performance and no hidden effects.

Great job ZOS.

Like yeah since then we have had all of this cool new content and bug fixes but WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GAME PERFORMANCE???

It's funny because the guy in that video made another video about a week later talking *** about the game because it basically wasn't "Skyrim 2". I remember him deterring a lot of players for trying out the game, albeit the non-reflective flock peasents who cannot think or formulate an opinion for themselves. Yet that would still have been more people paying and playing the game, which means we might not have gone away from pay to play, which means the game would have been better off in terms of maintenance and regular updates.

This doesn't really touch on the subject of the post, but it's just funny that the video you chose actually comes from a guy who *** all over the game under a false/ignorant premise.

I like a lot about how the game is now, but the way the servers worked back then was way, WAY WAY better. You could actually have large scale battles without losing sound and crashing the servers.

Performance was much worse back then.
The only difference is that in those glorious times nobody knew anything about combos or buffing or burst damage and everybody was just running around like a headless chicken spamming light attacks.

It is beyond ridiculous to take this video as an example of good performance or gameplay.

Those were the good old days when people actually had to fight with their weapons and use class/weapon abilities. Felt like an actual "fight". I saw it going down hill once vicious death and destro ult were introduced.
