I also think Zos wants the gear hamster wheel. If I could craft jewelry, I'd have NMG + Hundings + monster set by the end of the day. I could even buy the monster helmet and get carried through a normal dungeon for the shoulders. TBH, I would let anyone have it and try to beat them on a level playing field, but some people work hard for their gear so they can beat someone who has a lesser character.
One option to eliminate that qq would be to offer it through the writ vendor. It would be bind on pickup and only be allowed to be worn if you have 110 skill points in crating. With those restrictions you can't argue the people that have it didn't do anything for it.

I think you have to consider the delay involved with leveling up your jewelry traits ... sure you could have the 2 traits in a couple days but you’d be looking at weeks or months for the 6-9 trait stuff. Not like it would happen overnight. Plus you’d also have to put skill points in and grind your jewel crafting up to 50 to make the best gear like everything else

Might not even be 9 traits, there's currently only three.

Of course, the real issue with jewelry crafting is that it kinda has a bit... less... then other crafts. Two objects, with a mere three (researchable) traits each... heck, even woodworking has way more.
But... there could always be stuff added for jewelery to craft (and research)!
Like...
...better lockpicks, that have less chance to break!
...anklets, bracelets and circlets for the foot, arm and head armor slot that give no armor, but special extra-power trinket effects.
..."ornate" versions of all kinds of gear (not that sure why anyone would want to craft that... but maybe for the crow daily?)
...crowns for the head armor slot that have a special group-wide effect when worn by a group leader.
...alternate magic weapons, like runestones and wants for some "one-handed and magic" skill line, or "spell Foci" like ornate spellbooks, gilded skulls, meditation crystals, shamans rattles, gemmed scepters, whatever...
..."trinket" style house furnishings, be it gemmed inkwells, gold-framed mirrors, silver candlesticks, display cases for special artefacts, etc.
