I own a number of different mounts, and I like to match them up with the characters I'm playing.

That said, I honestly feel like my wild hunt senche is faster. It is certainly a smoother ride than most other mounts.

dwemmer spider however is so swagilicious.

My point of this thread is to ask, do any of you think the same way and have only bought just the one cheapest (10k gold) mount or you have just the mount that comes included with the Imperial Edition, and you are happy with it and have no desire to ever purchase a more expensive mount since once again, all mounts in the game function exactly the same?

From that standpoint, you could say that the game doesn't need any other costumes or armor motifs - after all, the armor functions exactly the same regardless of what it looks like... /shrug

That said, I find most of the "fancy" mounts to be silly. For me. So I have no desire to get any of them. I have a basic black 700 crown horse, and that's the only mount I've ever used on six characters. (I bought that horse when I had just started playing. I thought that 10k gold was a huuuuuge amount, and didn't understand that mounts went into the collection & were account-wide, so I figured I was saving 10k gold per character. Silly noob. Still, I like the horse. :# )

I’d swear that ratchety dwarven Spider is faster......but yeah. I just recently got that dromathra panther from crown gems. Completely cosmetic, but it looks cooler and makes horrendous noise when mounting.

The spider mount is unquestionably smoother and less prone to getting snagged for no apparent reason than horse mounts. It's because it has six legs but each foot has a smaller collision box.

On PC/EU, I'm using the Imperial horse, since that's not my primary server (NA is), so I didn't want to spend any crowns or gold. (I have the base game Imperial Edition, so the horse is cross-server, unlike the one from the Crown Store upgrade, so the horse is "free" for me on EU.)

Here's the funny thing, though: I virtually never see anyone riding around on an Imperial horse. The Imperial Edition base game was discontinued long ago, and most newcomers to the game are probably not going to blow a bunch of crowns on the Imperial upgrade in the Crown Store (particularly since there are so many other things in the CS these days that compete for someone's Crown balance). For the ESO veterans who have the Imperial horse, they've probably amassed quite a collection of mounts by now.

So the Imperial horse, which for me is a "free" mount, is also a pretty unique mount simply because nobody rides it any more these days.

I have an Imperial character who still rides her white horse, but what you say is broadly true. I bought the Imperial Edition and for a long time it was my only mount. Now only she uses it as the others have more aesthetically pleasing matches.

i like the look of the horses the best...my favorite is the midnight steed...

did one of those late night shopping things and ended with one of the guars...

don't ride it so much anymore cause I don't really like the bouncing...

based on folks feedback, I may have to try one of the cats...

To each his own. I play a lot of cyrodiil <horse riding simulator>. And I have 8 mounts i use on my different toons because they're cool!

I also collect motifs for my armor and weapons, which function the same as any of the 1-8 styles, but I like to look fresh when I'm riding on my cool horse.

Next time I see you in cyrodiil and you kill me just remember.. I died looking fresh.

I don't normally use daggers, but when I do, I choose dos Lekis.

While it is true, to each their own, there was a time that more expensive (gold) mounts did offer more.

Used to be we had only 50 upgrades and they could be put into either speed, stam or carry space. One mount came with an additional 10 speed and another with an additional 10 carry bag space. This permitted getting either max speed or max bag space, but getting both was not possible.

Regardless, anyone who plays the game actively can easily afford any of the mounts sold for gold as long as the do not constantly waste it on other things.

In the end, it is just a choice that is no different than any other choice in an MMO>

I like my mount to match my gear character and costume. Just looks better on the character screen and when riding around. Like my warden rides around in the white bear. My mdk rides around on the fire horse my sorc uses the atro horse. It’s just taste and you have to do what makes you happy and what you find fun. If you find the 10k mount fun and u like it then more power to you, but I would hate to see all my characters using a mount that did not fit right.

It got boring with everyone having the same batch of horses before they released new mounts. And I like the variety. Even though they do all work the same I like having different mounts for all my different characters. I like to assign certain mounts to suit certain characters' personalities.

Shame I can't take a group picture of my namesake and all his senche.

My most used mount is the black horse you can buy for gold. I don't understand spending real money for mounts at all. I have 2 Apex mounts I got from free gamble crates and I don't use them. I have the tiger mount I got for free as the last of the loyalty rewards...and I very seldom use it. I've yet to see a mount I'd be willing to pay money for.

since once again, all mounts in the game function exactly the same

It's not true actually. Different mounts have different collision model - where horse will stumble or stuck, spider will pass perfectly. The worst models are camel and bear, the best - cats, wolf and spider. But you don't know that because you never tried anything except horse.

It's not a big difference in pve, just quality of life, but can be important in Cyro.

I tend to try and match the mount to my characters.

I have the basic guar for my argonian. She's nothing even close to basic herself, but as cooler guars were not on offer when I purchased, I do not regret this.

    I will be getting this:

    1141ea46f9e8a15fabda1177bd07635e.jpg

when it comes out today for my Kajiit. I don't see her riding basic male lions and guars/ horses won't fit either.

The only other planned character that I have not made yet is an orc. And I'm yet to decide what she'll ride.

Do you know the feeling when the first mount you get by luck in a new crown crate round is the camel type... ?

I am a fan of wolves (for my Redguard), sabre tooths (for my Bretons) and Guars (for my Dunmer). My Sorc uses that Dwemer spider type thing (I love the noise).

I only have one mount. It is the cheapest mount in the game and it cost me just ten thousand gold. I scoff at the thought of buying a more expensive mount either with gold or crowns. Why? Because all mounts in the game function exactly the same. The only difference among the various mounts is purely cosmetic.

A more expensive mount is not inherently faster, is not more resilient, and does not allow you to carry more. Such features are gained through individual player character riding skills rather than the mount itself. There are also buffs for mount riders, but it doesn't matter what particular mount you are riding.

I know very well that people who buy more expensive mounts do so for the look alone. They want something different. They want something cooler. I have no problem with that. I'm not trying to tell anybody how to play their game. Whatever makes you happy, more power to you.

In my opinion, I personally see no incentive to spend more gold or spend any crowns on a mount when the cheapest one available is equal to everyone else's fancy mounts. By the way, the Imperial Edition comes with a mount included and it's also equal in function.

Back in the day the horse did have different attributes depending on what you spent. For what ever reason the was deemed unfair and now they all have the same everything. I understand to an extent what you are saying but fashion ESO is a big part of the game. Without that we all could just be the black figures you see when zoning into an area. I just wish there were mounts obtainable in the wild other than the 3 horses.

    On a more serious note...
The only difference among the various mounts is purely cosmetic.
...exactly. Well, nowadays anyhow. (yes, used to be there were differences - before the coming of the crown store)

And some of us care little about game mechanics, but a LOT about getting their character -just- as they envision her or him. And that includes a riding animal matching the character theme... now, for some characters the common brown horse is the right mount. But for others, it is not. Argonians may prefer a guar. Redguards may pick a camel. Imperials likely will stick with their white horses. Wood elves may like riding wolves, for that ElfQuest feel. Altmer would perhaps prefer a carriage, but intil they get a chance at that might pick a deer as a nod to LotR. Would be necromancers may go for a undead mount. Orcs may ride a bear. Khajiit may ride a kitty.

The point is, everyone makes their own choices about buying those crown store mounts - or not.
    As it should be! ;)

At launch, your ridding skill was tied to the mount and not the rider. I bought several back then so that I could have a fast mount, a pack mount and a Stam horse. It was great. Then zos did there thing and here we are with a bunch of mounts that are all the same. Well, except my tiger.

What??? Madness. The horse's training was to the character, not the mount. Beta tested the game.

Also, The Imperial horse was/is NOT free! It costs 1g in game

The visual (In my mind's eye) animation definitely seems slower on some mounts (Skins). The Dwarven spider definitely IS faster. I have tested it with rapids on my mount and a friend's without rapids. Could be Internet speeds or whatever, butt* I do not think so.

Love my mounts. But, I choose mounts that match the style of each individual toon. My creepy vampires ride creepy or dark mounts. My steampunk character rides a dwarven mount. It's cool that it isn't your cup of tea. This game is my hobby, so I don't mind spending some money on it.
