Clockwork City Review - let's discuss about it

Dear everyone,

@Nicky_W and myself have been testing Clockwork City intensively. We have finished the whole story line, several side quests, dailies, one of the two delves and the two world bosses. Some of you may have seen us streaming the entierty of the content.
In addition, I had the chance to have a tour with the devs for extra explanations and discussions.

With all those informations, we are very happy to present you our Extended Review of ClockWork City. A shorter version will be edited later on. This review is limited to the DLC, we do not speak about Update16. Transmutation, and Classes balances are well covered by people such as @Inklings or @Alcast that are far more knowledgeable on that regard. To each its speciality. ;)

My personal opinion
I'm obviously sharing my opinion in the video itself, but to speak about it more in details. I usually really love all the story content ESO is releasing. Sometimes a story work better on me, and this is entierly subjective.
The story that moved me the most so far had been Orsinium: the atmosphere, the subject, the characters (King Kurog </3), the plot. Everything was perfect to keep me involved! ClockworkCity is close second to it. I find the story THAT good! The Universe, the characters, the mysteries.... It's really a GREAT stroy!
I love the characters. All have their own personalites and give a nice contrast. The encounter with Sotha Sil is epic, but the best characters of all are not humans!
The new monsters are also interesting. I strongly recommand to let them hurt you to fully appreciate the new animations!

SPOILER SPOILERS SPOILERS
Best moment ever!!

And you? What is your opinion about Clockwork City? Are you enjoying the Story? Who is your favourite character?

It has been out on PTS so people has done it there.

I'm always doing the content before it's released so I can create reviews/guides about it. On live server, I'm going to wait the rush is over and the area quieter to experience the story once more.

@Tito86 This is a well known side effect of my videos that I embrace fully. Some people use them for relaxation and insomnia. I take it as a compliment ;)
We will probably do a shorter-more dynamic review like we did for Horns of the Reach.

I fount at least 3 hints for now that favour theory about Tribunal killed Nerevar, not Dagoth Ur (tho why npc call him Ur when during this time he still suppose to be Voryn?).
And that sad music in location is amazing.

The dailies are a pain. Node spawns are shared, which is a cheap way to make the content last longer. The Shadowy Cleft is a huge disappointment. I don't need another dark canyon full of reskined/recoloured enemies where most of my dailies are set. It's just so not fit for CWC. All in all, it's just another inexpensive DLC so I should've expected this (lack of) quality. The aesthetic designs are great, though. Much better than I expected.

I just got there. Admired the view. Looked at the new house. Did a few quests. So my early impressions:

    - environment is absolutely stunning. I really love the look and feel of the place. I do hope that each of the daedra god/ diety will eventually have their own mini zone themed after them, as it is a great way to escape the ordinary.
    - disappointed in the new house. Approximately 40£ for a fairly small (around 2 rooms and outside) dwelling. It's nice that it has a big item count, however I will not spend that amount of real money on a virtual house that's not even mansion sized. I wish there was an even smaller dwelling somewhere in the zone buyable with either less crowns, or with in game gold, as I love the zone, but come on guys - 8000 crowns for unfurnished?
    - the quest ideas are nice, but some text always comes out rather dry. It's fairly odd that we can ask absolutely everyone practically who Sotha Syl is and how do they feel about him.
    - disappointed about no thematic clothing to do with the DLC, no new costumes for free, but at the same time no new costumes on the store even. Remember the beautiful dress that the elf lady wore in introductory quest? Why can't I have it? How about replacing some of MY body parts with machine parts? How about the incredibly white toga that half the people inside clockwork city are wearing?

A robot attempting to play a flute is the greatest thing ever and if I could buy him for my house, I would.

Can I just mention that I really like the voices who are talking here? Can you guys read some horror facts or something! So relaxing!

This just makes me want to buy the DLC just for the scenery :)

I'm looking forward to playing it, but I'm waiting until after the double XP event. I don't want to feel like I have to rush through the dialogue in order to maximize my time leveling up my sub-50s. I want to take Clockwork City slow.

I did go there briefly just to get the dragonfly, though, and the place looked amazing.

I found it great too and was immediately hooked by the quests. The atmosphere is also great as are the visuals.

There are some subtle touches too that really add to the setting... like a factorum at the local pub butchering Red Diamond on the flute :)

I enjoy your videos but I'll have to come back and watch this one later. I've gotten to just past the crows and want to see at least the main story to its end before I watch any videos about it.

    Cheers.

The main problem to me is that the world content including the quests are braindead easy. I mean no feeling of achievement at all, it doesn't need to be maelstrom's difficulty (which is not that bad once you learn it) but 120k hp bosses is just lame and boring.

All the others aspects are pretty neat: history, narrative, graphics etc.

    Of what I've seen;

I love the aesthetic. With every new zone the design gets better and better.

The story seems really well written and I'm really happy we are moving forward with the war amongst the Daedric Princes storyline.

The voice acting is on point as always.

Seems to have more side quests than DB and TG.

That's cool and all but people like this rush the whole DLC in one day then sometimes come on the forums and say there isnt enough content so they blame ZOS for it.
Ofc im not saying thats you but people do that.

I cant offer my opinion because its out on console in 2 weeks.

I've gone through the intro fetch-quest and got all the way to the Brass Fortress and surrounding overland world. So far, I've just toured around the countryside to fight the (largely recycled + shock attack-augmented) local enemies and gone into the city to poke around. It's an interesting environment; I can see plenty of potential for both tech-y humor and logic-based puzzles to flesh it out. I hope they do. But for now, the scrums around the quest-giving NPCs and in general inside the city are just too big to enjoy. I'll wait a while now until it calms down.

So far my favorite NPC vignette has been the one with one NPC complaining about (unsuccessfully) re-purposing a guard factotum as a shop assistant -- who's being told by another exasperated NPC, "But it's working as designed!" As an IT worker, I feel his pain.

I took a day off work for it. I completed the main story line, the two delves, both world bosses, and most of the other quests, getting "The Hero of Clockwork City" title. I really liked the storyline. The sorcerer Fyr was condescending, but I liked him anyway, as he was actually about as good as he thought he was. There were several minor characters that I liked talking to as well, like the Chef in the thieves guild. Some of the story lines had a happy ending, and others not so happy. I liked the balance of that. Comedic storylines were well done too.

I have only done the Trial. Did that for the first time last night. So, I will review that first. I like it as it's short and can be done in the same time as a decent sized group dungeon. One thing that always pulled me from doing trials is the time aspect. At least on Normal, the mechanics are not such that the fight is discouraging, but it is challenging enough that you have to bring your A game. And lots of Soul Gems.

As for the environment, once I figured out what the elevators looked like, it got easier to get around.

One thing that bugs me, if food is such an issue for that place, why are all the crates and barrels full of ingredients?

it is too early. generally speaking I am glad to have new content. No matter what kind of content. Right now it is just overcrowded, so I will see whether it makes sense to spend double exp in this zone. May be after the event.... But I understand bloggers - they are live and die with who will yell the first...

I loved all the lore that was included. They definitely are going hard with the ALMSIVI killed Nerevar thing. The Sotha Sil speech at the end was a great talk about mantleing and I geeked out about it the prisoner thing. I was hoping for a reference to being in a dragon break but I am happy with what happened :)

I think it's my favorite dlc zone so far. I was actually very interested in the story line and how it progressed. It felt well thought out and adds more intrigue as you reach the conclusion to the main story. The zone looks fantastic. The architecture looks like what the dwemer cities would have looked like if they were still around (Sotha Sil looks like a dwemer to me with his elongated ears ;) ).

Another reason I think this is the best dlc so far are the amount of skill points awarded, 10 if I'm not mistaken. That's pretty damn good imo. There's also a lot of loot to get in this dlc, recipes, gear and 4 motifs I think. Sure there's some bugs that made it through to live from the pts but all in all I'd say this is the best dlc so far.

P.S. Well done ZOS <3 , keep making dlc like this and we may survive all the nerf updates that come with it.

I keep running by that spot to see if anything new gets triggered, so far all I have now is the NPC moaning about the "Can't teach an old machine new tricks" and the factotum promising not to harm you as you approach. I'm hoping there will be more as the quest goes on.

The CC area isn't large, but the city and landscape have many levels that fold back on themselves to still give plenty of areas to explore, and there seem to be an interesting variety of NPCs and things to discover.
