Well other games that shan’t be named have: an instance, an open world group instance with bosses and collectibles, achievements, achievement collectibles, unique crafting recipies. That just off the top of my head. I appreciate the holiday spirit, but they could step it up a bit in terms of content. It’s just not compelling when other games are doing Halloween sooo much better.

Gotta love how much people will whine over nothing.

Agree that best thing is double xp - helps me level up my alts. (But can understand if don't have alts / did this last year might be useless). Have the achievement on main but really am not bothered to get it on others.

As for plunder skull / drops? RNG is always, well, random. At least it makes going round dungeons & WB a bit more fun. And I intend to make something interesting with all my lovely twigs. ;)

But tne idea of decorating everywhere for festivals? No thank you. unnecessary.

Just enjoy it for what it is - free - and either join in or ignore.

I enter the forum, see the title of this post, immediately think:

Oh look, yet another sad person who likes to complain and think about how ZOS does everything bad.

    :)

I am not disappointed on this event, much better than the last year. If this is a huge disappointment, I ask OP, how was last year? Huge huge disappointment? Because we didn't the amount of things we're getting this year and the polymorph was a total need.

Must agree it's a boring event, especially compared with wow that has a dungeon with the headless horseman that drops some sweet transmog items, the towns get decorated up and new NPCs selling holiday themed items appear.

No one is forcing you to do the festival again. And since it is an annual festivity, what are you expecting of great new content? It's annual! Get that in your head, please! RNG has never been on my side before, so I take it easy and with humour. Take it as a fun festival, go out with people you know and have fun. Best thing, you can even trade with them. ;-)
And if all the duplicates are oh so disappointing for you, others might like them, so give them away. Or use them on your alts like me. Or give them to friends or guildies, who can still use them because they didn't get those. Heck, even sell it, some extra money.

No complaints from me, the event is running fine and I've had some worthwhile drops. I hate silly decorations throughout cities in MMOs, they give a completely absurd atmosphere and make in-game festivals too much of a copy of real world ones which I don't agree with, so I'm happy that ESO doesn't go down that road.

Besides, ZOS have made a few changes and additions this year whereas most developers just patch in the same old, same old, every year. It doesn't bother me if some drops are duplicates or re-skins of stuff already seen in the Crown Store as I won't have seen it before anyway not being a buyer of cosmetic or fluff items.

As for the complaint about people having done it all last year, apart from the fact that some things have changed or been added there's always for me the attraction of doing it with different characters. I can appreciate that that is more of a problem for those who only play a single character, but then they quickly burn out on a game anyway.

I'm disappointed there's not more to do.

Last year I was defending them, saying it was their first ever festival and we don't know how long they had to plan and build it, maybe they wanted to start small and build up etc. and after the New Life festival and Jesters festival had more activities I was optimistic about this year's Witches Festival. But no, it's the same 1 additional drop on existing bosses.

I understand not having towns decorated or anything like modern Halloween in real-life, because as I understand it the Witches festival is very much something 'celebrated' by witches and other casters who live outside of Tamriels main societies and most people would avoid it at all costs.

But they could build on that - apparently it's a common day for people to summon demons and monsters, so there could be quests to stop them or kill the things they summoned, or alternatively the option to help them by gathering components, completing the rituals etc.

UESP also mentions the Mages Guild identifying potentially magical items for free and selling spells for 1/2 price (I assume this was a mechanic in one of the games, probably Daggerfall) and that could come into it too - helping them sort items, dealing with the fall-out of people bringing all kinds of weird and wonderful things together at the guild halls, special quests following up on new discoveries etc.

It has so much potential to be a really interesting festival, and yet all we've got is 1 extra drop on bosses.

The only upside is that lots of other games do Halloween events too (even single-player ones) so the lack of extra stuff to do in ESO gives me more time to focus on those games instead.

I'm having fun, but that's probably because this was by far my favourite of last year's events. My last two lowbies will be getting leveled up while farming plunder skulls while I figure out what my next alt is going to be.

Maybe they should just end all festivals for a year instead of giving people all this free stuff and the ability to level a character to 50 in a day. Let them grind their characters the old fashioned way and make them pay thousands for xp pots, motifs, recipes, and furniture. Maybe then people will learn to appreciate free stuff.

I'm on the positive side of tis argument. The only slightly disappointing thing to me is the drop rate, and that only because some of us can't spend our whole lives in ESO farming for the good stuff. I can play for about 90 minutes a day, max -- and in that time I have done all the delves and boss monsters that I possibly can... and all I've gotten are dead branches and craft motifs.

I was thrilled with the first two branches I got... but it's hard to maintain that level of thrilled when the dead branches just keep piling up. Couldn't I get just ONE mask, PLEASE????? Just one?

I was disappointed in the event but not due to the reward variety, just due to the fact that it is exactly the same as last year with no new achievements. I'm farming a little only because I'm making a new provisioner and want the recipes, but I wish it at least had some interesting quests or a new achievement to make it more fun.

That said, with the DLC coming out I do understand them not wanting to bother creating a whole new event. But I hope all of the seasonal stuff doesn't turn out like this in the years to come.

I agree with the decorations. It's very tacky to push our worlds decorating styles into a setting it doesn't suit just to make us feel like it's more festive.

In what way is it unsuited? Yeah, jack-o-lanterns would’ve been tacky. But it’s still a festival. Generally, those have decorations and look visually appealing. Having things like skeletons, spider webs, cauldrons, and orange/yellow colored flames, etc. would not be unfitting. The capitals trying to do this for the festival in spite of difficult times is not an absurd idea. You know what I saw during this year’s “festival”? Absolutely nothing. Just the same old NPCs whining and crying about how horrible their lives are. That is not an event.

Though really, I wouldn’t be so disappointed if they hadn’t overhyped it. Even calling this the “witch’s festival” is overhyping it. It takes place after the lore-specific date and there’s no festival to be seen anywhere. Nothing is going on. They should’ve just called it a double XP week with some themed rewards, because that’s all this is. “Festival” my derrière.

It didn't even start on real witch festival tamerial holiday. I mean I will take 100% more xp as it saves me time and inspires me to try some new things... I mean that's what marketing was thinking with happening next to dlc drop right? Otherwise it's just not festival at all.

What they could of done is at more dymanics to world immerision of the holiday. Maybe have new npc dialogue or AI pathing. Some change in scenery like different mobs or special boss. Maybe add some silly consumbles you prank friends with. Why not, have eso holiday decorating contest (marketing chance missed). Also how about a different ploymorph to dress up as new year (nobody dresses the same for halloween two years in a roll)

As to say, I will take the xp, but I am not voting witch festival as number 1 event in the next poll.

As for tacky. I find pretty much every epic mount that's come out of the crown crates to be extremely tacky.
If ZOS were to have an event and decorate, but still be at least sorta lore friendly, that would be awesome for me.

The events encourage people that have become causal to get them playing again, I am all for an expanded active player base.

I'm enjoying the festival. The plunder skulls (while extremely luck-based) add a chance to get something cool.

But I have to agree with you and others here. There is plenty of room for improvement. So I don't believe your complaints are without merit. More atmosphere would be nice (whether in the form of decorations or something else).

LOTRO had a haunted house you could explore to collect tokens and earn prizes. So an addition along those lines might also help give the festival a little more flair.
