Yeah, the zergs at the popular dolmens are absolutely ridiculous. I ran a few just to get experience at a predictable rate in order to hit a particular target, not caring about drops. Then I left and went off to do delves for loot. A lot more fun.

    It's 3%, so you're talking more like 30 people.

Yesterday I came to a dolmen where there was over 25 people already waiting for the final boss to drop. I laid down Elemental Blockade before it dropped followed by Engulfing Flames as soon as it dropped and that was enough to get me the plunder skull.

Never saw the boss at all, it evaporated as soon as it appeared, but I must have got my 3% :)

I don't quite understand the obsession with dolmens. Group up with a few people and do World Boss runs. Like the previous poster said, 113 world boss. Go do random normal dungeons - they are extremely easy - either with pre-made group or use dungeon group finder. Go do public dungeon or delves with a few people. Or solo, if you are able to. Dolmens with 50 other people is such a crappy way to level up. Personally, I will quit this game before I consider grinding dolmens. There are really so much more to the game than just the damn dolmens.

Fighter's Guild quests - and a very easy way to get plunder skulls, despite what some people are saying. Though it is quite a sight when you see the dolmen grinders spill out of the nearest wayshrine, hordes of them stampeding off to drop a couple of AoEs, then race back to the wayshrine and onto the next dolmen...

just move dolmiens reward off the boss and into the chest. If you get participation, you can get it that way.

That being said, I'm sitting here in a solo delve with boss respawning more often than every 3 minutes and farming it myself :P

You are just going to have to accept that if you are going the Dolmen route, there are 1,000,000 other people also looking for the path of least resistance, and you are going to be competing with them.

Instead of asking them to change the way the game works, try a path less taken. As Robert Frost said, it will make all the difference.

Problem I have with public dungeons is the respawn timer. Whenever I am there I (and everyone else) just sort of hang around waiting for the bosses to come back. Sure if it's the skulls, it's probably better since your getting one each time almost. But for exp purposes, it's not that great. Sure one could go to a less popular spot, but then they might take longer to clear them. Since there are less people doing them you have to do more f the work. That seemingly defeats the purpose of the dolmen runs.

Regardless, having only the 12 highest get loot while allowing 24(?) in a group just seems wrong. its fostering competition in a noncompetitive aspect. Exp aside, its the principle of that is a bit of an issue in my books.

As multiple people have stated already it is not top 12. It is 3% total damage. But if you are a low CP grouping up with top tier DPS, or if that Dolmen already has a **** tonne of people at it, then good luck.

So basically a lazy way to farm skulls with the added possibility of getting some overland reward.

However, for those that are looking to level up, I will stick with my previous post. There are better ways to level up than overcrowded dolmens.

There is no such a limit. Sometimes I arrive in the last minute, hit an enemy with a random spell and still get the reward. You're doing something wrong.

More likely, you are doing something right... or more specifically, you are doing enough of the right thing.

On the plus side, this means a player has to proactively get involved rather than simply being nearby.

That said, I don't advise farming skulls at Vulkhel Guard. There's a good chance that the dolmen boss will be dead before you even hit it. There are plenty more dolmens out there and world bosses, group and public dungeons are way more fun.

Meh. My problem is this: if you're low level or if you're wanting to level up skill lines, you need some more people around for that - but too many people and you don't get the neat holiday stuff.

Just based on walking around the last couple of days, I think you might hit the sweet spot in Deshaan or The Rift, Eastmarch and maybe even Rivenspire. Zones with inconvenient transit are pretty ghost town - eg the dolmens in Reaper's March seem to be empty most of the time. Definitely avoid Alik'r at all times, and Auridon during high-pop hours.

I hope you get some nice things.

Dolmens with a few other players works very well, with the giant zerg groups not so much.
xp gain in large groups get reduced and you don't get much xp outside of groups as you are not able to hit most mob enough.
Has mostly done public dungeons as i find it more fun and its more skulls.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

It's this exactly. When I'm leveling, I'll do dolmens just long enough to upgrade a jewelry set, and to level Fighter's Guild a bit before I get bored. I also get upgraded weapons, and armor if I'm too low level to have my training armor on. Then I go and do questing and such for a while. When I need to upgrade my jewelry again after several levels, I go back to the dolmen for a while.
Doing nothing but dolmens for 50 levels would make me stab out my own eyes with forks from the boredom, but they're useful for a while for upgrades and Fighter's Guild.

So I am really high lvl, and when there is more than one person, I just use basic heavy stave att to do damage so that the other person also gets loot. I have had several people come through, and run as fast as they can, ahead, to the next boss(public dungeon), and do max dmg....leaving everyone else standing there with nothing but xp and 16 coins. I'm not sure if they think this is necessary, or if they are just being jerks. Usually, I just repay the favor a few times, and they go on and we can get back to making sure everyone gets loot........but if this is you....stop it. It's not necessary for one person to do 99% of the dmg for you to also get loot. All you do is leave other players with nothing.

We need more thoughtful players like this guy ^

It's the same in public dungeons... If I see another player (especially lowby) in the dungeon I keep pace with them so they don't have to wait 5 minutes for every boss to respond.

I don't think people are necessarily "just being jerks", I think they simply don't think!
