What if we could lose experience when we die?

Regarding original question. ..hell no. Been there done that with EQ. XP loss and you had to recover your corpse. Hated that.

if yes, then we would have to whole PvP community crying and weeping for NERFS without end!

    that would be fun!

I think it would be cool if we got a rating at the end of a dugeon. Like A+ through F- or something. Like in Devil May Cry for instance. Just for yourself or maybe for the group or even both. And then get exp accordingly. But negative exp for dying? Maybe not so much...

80% of my PVE deaths are just from lagging out. I aggro a mob and the game just freezes then I am dead.
Now I don't do a lot of hard content but the lagging out and dying is part of that reason.

In PVP, I like dying tactically, it would ruin PVP completely.

Played game with xp death penalty and was no worse than gold repair penalty in eso, as usual people are posting most implausible worst case scenarios - one death equaling lost cps or levels etc lol

There were some aspects I liked about it in DAOC.. I mean yeah, you lost xp on death, but you could never drop a level. It also (iirc) left you with a grave that you could go back to and prey at to recover the vast majority of your lost xp.

That led to situations where you waned to go back and have another go - approaching it more thoughtfully - to try to get to your grave to get that xp back. Or you'd call in /zone or your guild for help to get through it.. It's a mechanic that sometimes encouraged 'gitting gud' and working with others..

but sometimes it was a right pita - and no, it doesn't really fit in with the ESO audience.

Would be fun if you could simply die a few times, to stay the same level in non vet pvp. I always hate the moment, when I outlevel my lvl 30 masterbow on a new Charakter.

But to be honest, I don't think it would be good for the game, as I can already think of multiple ways how an xp loss could be exploited to be stronger than intended.

I don't think the intention would be to actually lose levels?

If you lose experience, but not levels, you'd be at minus X experience, but still at Level whatever, and have to make up the deficit before you could level again....and you'd lose more experience every time you died trying to get back to level whatever so you could get experience to level above level whatever in a never ending cycle.....

Have played other games with this, most notably DAOC. It's no fun and it doesn't add anything to the game experience. In fact it can cause frustration if you die due to bugs or bad game design, or resentment if you die due to the idiocy or deliberate griefing by another player.

I played an MMO years ago that did this, it actually was a lot of fun. You also dropped everything in your backpack and had a chance for an equipped item to drop from you as well which was lootable by other players after a few minutes. It forces people to be more thoughtful in what they do, a game system with no real penalty for death just isn't quite the same, still fun, just not the same.

Why - so more people can call out for nerfs because they are losing XP trying to solo a world boss and it isn't fair?

I have no idea why anyone would even think of this.

Aye, I can assure you the vast majority of ESO players, would not be able to handle the upcoming Pantheon Rise of the Fallen, which will have major death penalties.

Ahh....the golden age, when in games like EQ and FFXI if you didn't have at least 5 hours a day to commit, and refused to git gud, you would quit by lv 12.

    I miss those days.

    Kek.

The gear repairs are more then enough punishment. :/

Though if u want to get rid of every single player this would do it! Everyone from pvp would be with the prophet nonstop listening to him rattle on forever.

Plz fix the SERVER and the longest load screens of any game. They're sooooo long even the game tells you that it is an unusually long time. Whoever made that text for that screen owes everyone free crowns, wait 3 crown crates, lol. :*

How about instead we increase the respawn timer for world/delves bosses and dolmens to 12 hours? Plus perma death.

    In response to the OP:

I traveled that path a couple of decades ago in the original EverQuest. Never was there a worse system design. You could lose an entire night's worth of XP in one ill-fated encounter. I'm very happy that they ditched this "feature" in EQ2.

MMORPG's are supposed to be played to make you feel as if you're building a character. Playing for an entire evening, then dying at the end and losing all that XP (even possibly LOSING a character level) was not fun in any way.

In the event ESO ever implemented XP loss upon death, that's the instant that I never log in again.

Saw this in the Jedi profession of pre-cu SWG and liked the idea. Could implement something similar for AvAvA with alliance points Instead of XP but it'll never happen
