How can I fix a granny2.dll error?

I installed the game before the most recent major update and it all worked fine. But after the update the game wouldn't even come up and gave me a error message saying that granny2.dll was improperly installed. I've re installed the game multiple times but it always gives me the same error message and I haven't been able to get to the log in screen since. Anyone know a way to fix this?

You got a dll error so I guess you're not playing on a Mac. But what Windows system are you using? Win7, WinXP, Win8, Win10, WinME? 32/64 bit? That info might come in handy if no fix works for you.

    Repair:
Start the launcher, do not press play. Go straight to repair. Be sure to select the right client in the list, if you have more than one installed (PTS/EU/NA). This should redownload granny2.dll if you're missing it.

Best check before and after repair if the file exists.. have the folder open while the launcher does its magic:
For my Win8 64bit system with EU client the granny2.dll is located in:
    S:\Zenimax\The Elder Scrolls Online EU\game\client\

So for me it is the same directory as the eso.exe, not the Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe. Should be the same for you too.
    • If you have that file: great, it should be around 533KB, if it's 0KB you could delete it and start repair to redownload.
    • If you don't have it: Repair
    • If granny2.dll does not appear you might have a folder permission problem. See compatibility mode for workaround.
    • If granny2.dll appears for a short time and then disappears or is created with 0KB your antivirus might be deleting it or blocking access

    Compatibility Mode:
Set the launcher to administrator mode (only launcher, not eso.exe) :

Right Click Launcher -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Run as Admin -> OK

Remove any other compatibility settings from launcher and eso.exe.
For me the launcher is found in:
    S:\Zenimax\ESO\

Now repair again and then try to play.

If none of this works, you should start game-consultant.exe and send the logfiles to customer support:

PS: I could just send you the granny2.dll .. but then again you shouldn't take dll's from strangers ^^

On this same topic, the game was running for me. It crashed. Now I cannot access due to 209 manifest error. If I try the regular EXE file I get that the granny2.dll doesn't exist. The file is in the directory and does have the right kb reading. I did a repair. It is still giving me the same two errors. It asks me to repair again. If I go to the exe, missing .dll file that is right there in the same stupid directory.

You mention something about compatibility mode, but where do you mean? What program and location?

I'm on Windows 8.1 64x. I was crashing a lot prior to the update and now it's worse.

This is bizarre, that DLL has nothing to do with ESO and isn't on any of my machines where I'm playing the game.

Some info about this DLL can be found here:

It has something to do with ESO! You can find the file in this folder:
    The Elder Scrolls Online EU\game\client

I think its because the Granny 3D Engine. ;)

Hmm, so it is, wonder why Exploer didn't find it when I did a search. :(

Gonna necro the topic but might help someone.

I just encountered the same issue; granny2.dll and icuuc55.dll errors. Tried repairing and re-installing vcredist did not work.
Then I deleted the "problematic" dll files from the folder and ran repair again. Repair installed the new dll files and problem solved.
