Backup your settings... REGULARLY

I've just gotten a random BSOD, and ALL of my 70-80 addons settings got reset/broken somehow.
Good excuse to get drunk while I redo everything from scratch I guess.

Backup your "Elder Scrolls Online" folder under Documents. Right now, if you haven't done it yet. You'll regret not doing so... one day.

I lost everything this morning too, lost power and couldn't close the game normally because a LUA error removed the ability to open the menus. Just realized all my HarvestMap data is gone. 3 years, farming every zone in the game, almost every single node mapped, poof.

I'm defintiely making a backup now. And getting very drunk.

Same happened to me this week. I quit the game (PC) and the game crashed , showing me the screen to adjust sliders for gamma, but frozen. I restarted PC, and then next time I logged in I had to watch cinematic and accept the user agreements.

Sad thing is my reaction was basically, "meh, just another day playing ESO and dealing with its bugs".

Yes, you all should do this. Wish someone told me before it happened to me ):

If you use Minion (and you should, it's great), there is a "Backup" option in there too.

    I do.

It happens on occasion that one or more of the saved variable files gets corrupted(I believe); everything is lost and it can a good amount of time to reconfigure some of the addons. So now I make a zip of the saved variables folder each time I make a change.

You should be doing regular backups of your computers anyway, which would include your Documents folder. ;)

Of course it doesn't hurt to backup the Addons/Saved Variables folder separately and additionally.

Mine does, with the right "addon" called True Image.

There's one problem to watch out for with that though, if the files get corrupted an automatic or scheduled backup might overwrite older working files with newer corrupted files. When backing up make sure it doesn't overwrite or delete older backups to avoid an issue.

I recommend a small free lightweight and safe program called SyncToy. You can set it to auto backup folders of your choice onto other folder(s)/drive(s). To fix the above mentioned problem you can set it to "contribute" such that no files will ever be deleted, only new copies of the files to be backed up will be created (this will however make the backup continually grow since everything is added, never deleted, so eventually you will have to manually clean up the older "duplicate" backups)

File history in Windows does exactly this.

Backs up any files / folders you want every hour by default. Saved my rear end many times.

 I use Carbonite. It backs up continuously, so any changes get saved in 10 minutes or less. Might be a bonus that its saved off my pc in case something major dies.

Good thing there is a website where you can download all of the harvest map data for every discovered node in the game.

Had that happen too (not recently). The problem is that ESO always loads all your AddOn data into memory when you logon with a character and always saves it back on logout (or /reloadui).

The problem arises when the AddOn memory becomes corrupted and ESO happily updates your SavedVariables file(s) with junk on exit ...

I back mine up daily. I have had odd things happen. Mainly, I see save file resets, but one time I had a 4GB save file. I have no idea what was in it that took up 4GB, but it probably wasn't anything I would want to keep.

You can download completed maps online. I forget where. But you can get a file that already has all the nodes pretty easily.

I did not realise there were that many add-ons for ESO, no wonder so many people complain about lag and low FPS.

It actually has nothing to do with the add ons in nearly every instance of complaining
