What role do you guys play and how do you stand your role?

I've been a tank since the first day I started playing ESO (a little less than a year) and about a week ago I found myself being so bored, (I never truly liked the idea of making another character and starting all over and even when I did I never got them past level 45, and I like to immerse myself in the game, so I main a dk stam tank) that I actually decided I was done and began transferring my tank into a dps, I actually got pretty far into that (just one set away from actually having my build, and most of my gear I upgraded to legendary) but when I actually started to queue myself up into a random dungeon I didn't find absolutely ANYTHING for like 15 min. But when I'm set as a tank I'm needed in like 10 seconds. Then when I tried to farm this one dungeon to get the last set of my dps build, I found myself so frustrated as I couldn't solo dungeons anymore, I'd get destroyed as a dps so easily. So as of today I truly appreciate how lucky I am to be a tank and plan on staying that way from now on. So I've decided to make this poll, what role are you and how do you stand it?

P.S I'm pretty mad that I spent about 200k gold on the dps build (upgrade mats and hiring a crafter to make me a specific style for my set), lucky I'm making back pretty soon.

Last night I did a couple pledges with a healer and we joked about the queue time expectations he had vs mine. Basically if queue didn't pop immediately he assumed it was bugged; turns out he was right ;)

As DPS I'm used to waiting at least 10 min.

DPS requires more skill to do a good job, that's why I play it. It's more fun too because you have a direct impact on progression through the dungeon, whereas tank/healer has only indirect impact.

    Tank
I main a tank. Even on my other characters, I prefer the tanking spot, so much so that I run a dps/tank with my friends when they run 3 DPS.

One reason is that a good tank isn't actually necessary to complete group dungeons if the group has the right amount of DPS and heals. But boy is it noticeable when there isn't a good tank. Adds are all over the place, the boss is sprinting right out the AOEs, and nobody has the situation under control. Playing a tank is all about bringing order to the chaos, and that's why I like playing the tank.

Another reason is that my job is simple. I taunt the boss, hold him aggro-ed and more or less still, debuff the boss, buff the group, interrupt and do mechanics and then don't die. That's my job whether the group is burning the boss faster than a fuse on a firecracker or the group has no clue what the mechanics are and the DPS is torturously slow.

If I want an interesting dungeon run without having to sweat too much, I take my tank (who's geared and set for vet dungeons) and I tank a random normal. The sheer variety of players mean these never get boring even though I know the mechanics, from the Maelstrom Champion Sorc who carried the rest of us through Darkshade 1 or the Crypt of Hearts 2 run when the healer and I out-DPSed the 2 DPS, or the seemingly endless Fungal Grotto 2 runs where I'm explaining mechanics on every fight (kill the adds on the chains, don't kill the spiders, don't aggro the whole room on the magicka draining guy, cleanse the beams in the bubble, etc). Sometimes the groups the groupfinder gives me are a drag, but its all worth it for the times I get to see new players learn the dungeon and their role.

I like tanking. Its a fun support role who brings order to the chaos and makes everyone else's life easier. Am I necessary for all content for all players? Nope. But for those times when I am necessary, there's nothing I'd rather be than a tank.

    Tank
I play tank because to many benefits. You don't need min-maxed gear to join endgame vet stuff. An Example for a damage dealer is "You are to low champion level to come along", but for a tank "Ah welcome buddy, no problems on your level, we have nice healers".

    Also:
    No queue times.
Instant party invite when asking in chat.
And just chill while playing because you gets heals when standing in red stuff, while a damage dealer will get yelled at, or receive no heals.
    AFK during boss fight.
Cheap on potions, usually no cost at all.
No need to do perfect rotations for max damage, and wont be bothered for doing low damage, while a damage dealer would be kicked.

    Healer
I'm the person that sucks at everything so I heal.

If a game has a healer/support class/role/character etc., then I'll play that. To me, it's fun being the guy that prevents others from dying, or helping them get the kill or stopping my enemies from doing $hit.

In other words, I'm the guy backstage doing all the rigging and stuff that makes the movie/play/whatever work.

    Tank
My Main for questing is as close to role less (and useless) as possible. BUT my main for roles is my tank, which I enjoy very much, not liking dying and such. With him I've gathered all the gear I'd need to make other characters. Which yes was a grind but some things cannot be done with just a respect/gear. Now, my DPS is working its way up and I'm enjoying a new play style.

I play all roles but I do have more toons geared as DPS toons than Tanks or healers. My favorite is the stamina nightblade for dps. He stands on two legs but uses his tail for balance and the occasional tail whip. /DanceRedGuard

    I do them all
I use to be a tank mdk but got so sick of dps not doing the job right so I switch to dps. Nothing is worst then being a tank with little damage and watching ur whole group die bc healer sucks and dps can’t stop getting one shot. I can’t tell you how many times I soloed vet bosses bc of this.

I made a healer bc I was sick of healers that all they did was stand in the back and heal. IMO a healer is just a bad dps that saves ppl. If u can lay down HoTs and shards you have plenty time to help kill things.

Mainly I switched roles bc players are so bad.

I only play a Dunmer stam dk. I'm used to waiting in the queue, even though it's sometimes boring and/or frustrating.

What I do NOT appreciate are people who queue as tanks or healers, but are really DDs, and are cheating to get ahead in the queue. Yesterday, for the first time in my experience, I had a "tank" in my PUG who showed up with a 2-hander, had none of the tank skills whatsoever, and got us killed repeatedly in a relatively easy vet dungeon. This wasn't a noob, he was CP 200 or so. Eventually everyone, including myself, bailed on the group.

If you're unprepared for, or not intending to take the role you queued for, don't lie about it--just wait like the rest of us! People often have limited time to play ESO, and don't have the time to waste because someone else just had to get into a dungeon NOW, and to hell with the rest of the group, they're gonna play even if they can't take up the responsibilities of the role they've requested, and it destroys the experience for everyone else. Screwing with people's time is perhaps the one unforgivable offense in online gaming. I know I won't forget.

Where is the choice for all 3?

I have 1 Tank, 1 Dedicated Healer and 8 DPS/Heals although only two of them I would queue as a Healer as I don't lie about my Roles. But they are leveled in the Restro Staff if ever needed.

Playing this game on one character is just asking to be frustrated at some point. Also, with the Champ System being what it is, you can level a character to a 150 Skill Point character in about 30 hours. And, be the same Champ Rank as your current character. No reason to not run alts. With the Exp Event coming up, it will take even less time.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I've been a healer since the first MMO was released, never looked back, I never grow tired of the role. I do have a tank and dps character just for those times when someone else in my guild wants to heal so that they have a chance to, but other than that I never play them.

In most games I have tons of alts. But in ESO for some reason I have no interest in playing alts; I just don't like any of the classes so I found the one I dislike the least (dk) and play that.

No reason for alts though, any stam char can be a tank and any magika char can be a healer. My stamdk carries heavy armor + s/b and can tank just fine if it is needed.

Funny thing is that I started off and mained my stam DK as a tank since day one. One day I decided to start investing into a dps build because I was getting bored of tanking, and I sucked big time, so I kinda stuck to tanking and took my time leveling my dps abilities and practicing.

Now I'm an end-game dps and I regularly score-push in vet trials. A great thing is that I can also just swap out some gear and skills and instantly transform into a really viable tank.

My advice to OP is to take your time, be patient, keep tanking but develop dps skills on the side. It's always great to be able to do multiple roles.

Ermh, so you don't have any alts and only ever played one class but you are certain that there's no reason what-so-ever to make an alt for anyone else playing this game, like, ever?
