shouldn't name and shaming be allowed?

No, @Wing. If you want to see why this is a horrific idea, let me link you to the story of @LegendaryMage.

This is why Naming and Shaming is a horrible ******* idea.

Yeah that was a very nice read for me that morning with coffee. :)

I'd like to add that usually players who bother to post screenshots or any other 'filth' are either agitators, or they part-take in such drama and are trying to instigate it, so whenever you see someone 'exposing' someone else, they're 100% dirty themselves and should be ignored. Just a bit of common sense that a lot of young people don't seem to get.

Name-and-shaming? In this culture? Are you *** kidding me? Try to do that to these people and they will just be proud that they've been made famous and infamous. OMG...

While i am annoyed how they care more about that than actual offenders like cheaters and botters, it's still a bad idea to get rid of the naming and shaming rule.
Just pay the forum moderator zealots to become ingame masters...

No thanks. It's been demonstrated very clearly on Reddit and elsewhere that Naming and Shaming can easily be exploited and false allegations deliberately made. Moreover, with such a tiny percentage of players actually visiting the forums it is highly likely that most "accused" players would be ignorant of what was being said about them and would therefore not be in a position to defend themselves.

It's only a game, and I'd be more interested in the behaviour of those making allegations rather than those the allegations are made against. That's where the suspect attitude is more likely to exist in my experience. Much like with support tickets - when someone says he's submitted 20 tickets in the last 6 months and has never had a successful response I'm more interested in knowing why he feels he had to submit that many tickets than I am in debating whether Customer Support did a good job responding to them.

ppl tend to believe "i cant do it, thus its impossible. everyone who can do it must be a cheater/exploiter."
Judgement based on feelings and opinions is a bad thing.

You may be right that some players could possibly enjoy a "bad*ss" reputation. But a reputation as a cheater or a botter ? Not so sure...

it always confused me as to why it was against some games TOS to prevent "naming and shaming"

but is this not one of the best ways for the community to police itself?

    With a name like 'Wing'

It's against the ToS because, by and large, people cannot be trusted.

You can't be certain that 100% of the people that are named and shamed are actually at fault for anything. There will be trolls and *** that will post names and/or altered evidence to hurt someone else's reputation. It's happened before in other communities that had lax rules on naming and shaming. I'd much rather nobody get to name and shame than have the possibility of innocent players getting reamed by trolls.

Thats why you invoke the trap card "pics or it didnt happen" :o

We have decided to close this thread because it isn't terribly constructive. We do not allow naming and shaming, and our Community Rules do a great job of explaining why:
We believe that naming-and-shaming posts and threads can be abused and are very harmful to the community. We also don't feel that publicly calling out or accusing others by name on our forums is in spirit of the game or our community. If you genuinely believe someone has violated our Terms of Service, you should report them in-game via the support interface — do not bring the situation onto the official ESO community forums.
