How to not get scammed

Yesterday I answered a call to someone in zone chat trying to sell stuff. We group up and there’s a different person in group. I told them I wanted 40 wax and 16 rosin. Just COD it all. I’d pay the fees. We agreed on price and were good to go but she couldn’t figure out how to COD....and wanted to trade in person. As it were.

Then the guy that invited me speaks up and made it seem like he was putting out the call to buy all the stuff I was.

It starts getting strange. The whole situation already feels sketchy enough. The deals good but not significantly cheaper than traders after cod.

Do these zone chat traders actually work or all scams? I left and wasted 15 minutes trading and the next hour feeling bummed.

personally, I hate COD. I once got screwed over it, I send the item + COD. He got the item but I never got the gold, so I don't trust COD much. I personally rather do trade

I can't speak on your exact situation as I wasn't there but personally I have never been scammed or had anyone attempt to scam me through trading. Kind of confused at what actually happened by reading your description. You said a girl couldn't figure out how to COD it but a guy invited you. Am i missing something here?

These Gold Sellers work in teams. I answer a zone about some Decorative Wax at a good price. Next thing I know I get a friend request from the seller, then a group a request, then I get whispers from several others wanting to sell the same thing. Turns out these people had 1000's of Decorative Wax. Wonder where they got it?

Anyway, my advice, for commodities, buy them from guild stores. They are all priced at about market price anyway, and avoid buying from any player that has lots of listings for the same thing.

Yup, this is the safest way. I do trade in person occasionally, but for like 1 temper or several Kuta. Basically under 10K stuff per trade.

COD only! If they refuse, then it is questionable. I only trade with friends.

Oh well yeah, that is sketchy. I would follow Cpt_Teemo's advice then.

You did the right thing. COD or don't trade at all. That is exactly what I do and I buy directly from Guild Traders. Too many scammers in game these days.

You probably took the gold attachment on autopilot, same as the rest of us do with hirelings, etc. Then, when you paused to look, no gold attached appearing you got scammed.

I've never had COD have issue, and you can't delete the mail until the attachments, gold included are accepted.

OP, someone offering those kinds of mats without knowing how to CoD is a deal breaker. Reeks of pure B.S.

if you do not trust the person (random player), then use COD, it is always safer than just regular trade.
if they can not use COD, then go sell to someone else, or explain how to use it, it is pretty easy. so if someone is not capable of using it, or better to say, is pretending is not capable of using it, that smells fishy and I would not trust that person for sure
